actually,i find arena gameplay to be much easier than constructed overall.you simply play 90% of the time with value in mind and then until around 4-5 wins games are just easy due to the amount of rank 20 casuals that play arena.these people make up quite a big portion of the hearthstone community, and since the matchmaking in arena is only based on how many wins you have, you end up playing against them quite a lot in the first few wins.these players also don't usually know how to build good decks and how to play arena properly,so you can pretty much expect at least 5 wins on average as a more dedicated hearthstone player.
About 50% of all global arena runs end with 3 or fewer wins. Therefore even you average anything over 3, I would say that makes you decent as you are better than average.
Nice post, thanks for the meth. I think I was about 5-6 wins avg when I played arena, now I'm kinda bored of it because of many reasons so I just play constructed.
I agree with your overall idea of what win averages mean in terms of how good a player is, but I think you over-estimate how easy it is to get a 12 win arena, especially for a player that averages 5-6 wins. What you have to account for is that as you gain more wins during your run your competition gets harder. Therefore a 5 win player (who wins about 63% of the time) would have a much higher win percentage when they have 1 or 2 wins, than when they have 5 or more. Although it is of course possible for any player to get a 12 win run, I think you overestimate the ease of actually doing it.
For example according to my stats I have averaged about 6 wins each month for the past several (I took a long break from arena before that) and I have never gotten to 12 wins, or even 11 or 10. I routinely make it up to 7-9 and then lose. I even got to 9-0 once and got steamrolled 3 times in a row =/. Of course, then I have the runs where I only get 2 wins to balance out that number. My point is that even someone who is at the 6 win level can never come close to 12.
You did a lot of effort on your post. However, the part that distinguish the most from the other assessments of arena runs is based on the rule of thumb. That is a pity, because i think this part is really interesting. I just dropped from an average of a little higher than 6 in around 50 games to an average of 4,5 in the last 20 games and i really would like to know if it is just an unlucky period or if i got worse. Therefore knowing the real variance would be nice.
As someone who only does arena; I consider 6 or 7 being a good run. But that already is higher than average. For a newcomer I'd say 3 or more wins is already a blessing (getting even with your input and reward afterwards).
Personally 7 is my line of 'good' as it promises me another run.

This summarises my feelings too.
I would say that anyone averaging more than 5 wins is most certainly a "decent" arena player but I am always disappointed to get less than 7.
Lately, I have had more disappointing Arena runs than decent ones!
For me 6+ on average it's considered a good player already, that's not easy to achiev. Arena is too random these days and the powerlevel of the cards is just crazy.

That's kind of how I think about it. 7 and more is a success. 6 feels like you were just short.
You are not prepared!
Hello,
I was wondering, for me it is extremely hard to get more then 6 wins... No matter how hard I try, I just cannot pass the 6 wins...
What is the amount of wins before you can call yourself a decent arena player? Is this amount 5, 6 or higher at 8 or 9?
My thoughts are:
0-2 = bad
3-5 = decent
6-8 = good
9+ = excelent
What are your thoughts about this?
To live is to suffer, to survive is to find meaning in the suffer!
I've never had a 12 run myself, best were two 10-3 runs.
Usually i get to 4-0 ot 4-1 and then get destroyed by sick decks.
I've never had a really awesome deck myself so i guess i won't ever get my 12 wins. :/
And no i don't think with skill alone you can get 12 wins (maybe if your opponents with disgustingly good decks make 1828 misplays).
If your opponent has an answer for everything you have you just can't win.
Hey. =)

Cut to 7 years in the future, and now everyone is winning 1-4 games because of the insane parity. Only the truly elite can win 7+ regularly.

Also they dont balance arena properly.
Nice thing about arenas is that you can wait to play them. No need to rush.
I play mine while taking a shit. Reminds me of Blizzard.
