I have not played arena for some time before gvg free arena, because I did terrible in last few runs. (My last 5 runs before GvG free arena were 1,2,1,5,0 wins) In my free arena I got to 3-3 with a mage, so nothing special. Then I decided to play some arenas before expansion hits to get still classic packs from them. First I picked paladin, with pretty weird draft-minimum amount of rares+pilloted shredder, I even picked 2x wild pyromancer with few spells and no equality, because the alternative picks were bad. I even got few picks like repentance, stonetusk boar, young dragonhawk. Luckily lot of common cards was at least average, no consecration though. I ended 6-3 and got 75 gold+55 dust.
I was happy, that I got some good run decided to play another arena, where I picked druid over mage, because I like druid more. I got very good option, although 1 epic, no legendary and just 3 rares. But all my common cards were good and weakest links were silvermoon guardian+2nd claw, but that was fine, because 2x claw and 1x wrath balanced my early game, where I had not so much 1-2 mana minions. I ended 10-3 and got 350 gold total from rewards+pack with 4x common+ancient mage. This was my deck.
I also need a little advice. I have almost all common cards available, lot of rare cards, I have 2x key rare cards for most classes/key neutral rares (auchenai, argus, azure, keeper...) , 2x some other rares from packs and 0-1 other rares. I have only a few epics-8 cards (but I disenchanted some far sight/mindgames) and 5 non-naxx legends (Cairne, malygos, cenarius, tirion, the beast) When I open packs common cards get instantly dusted, but I still miss a lot of important legendaries/epics. What packs are better for me in my current situation? Classic or or GvG? Sorry for the long post.
i am in a similar situation.. i lack good amount of important classic cards (mostly legendaries, giants and few class cards) but classic packs have been valuable nowadays for me (i got al akir atleast).. i would recommend waiting for GVG packs tho.. too many of the gvg cards will be totally meta changing and important in many decks so you can't go wrong there.. once u got everything u want from GVG u can go back to classic packs
Thanks for both advices. I already decided to go for GvG, because my value from classic pack is usually depending on what rare or better card I'll get, because I'm missing only a really small amount of commons, so I almost always directly disenchant all commons. For rares some I can disenchant too, some are bad/average, but I still don't have them 2x, but most good rares I already have 2x, except for paladin/rogue class rares and some neutral rares, that fit only in some specific decks. I miss a lot of epics or legendaries, but chance to get an epic/legendary is low. Chance of getting epic/legendary I really want is even lower. While in GvG I'll get all new cards and that will quickly build my common+rare GvG collection and after I'll be in the same situation with GvG as with classic I'll buy packs, where I'm more likely to get epics or legendaries that I want, but don't have.

Time is money, friend.
Focus on what it's easiest to get - the expected value is far better with all those GvG cards to collect right now.
