Have to say - kudos for the tip. Haven't done arena much in the past few years as I prefer constructed, and despite the better pack prices (in terms of gold per packs) the time investment was more than I liked. Decided to start a run for this, and currently sitting at 6-1 with a very nice tempo/zoolock deck (with that 1 loss coming to my opponent getting infinite Jaraxxus value near the end of our decks :-( ).
Since there are surely still some confused people and those that don't see the difference in finishing and not finishing, I'll explain with an example.
Just in very short words: if you don't finish a run and Blizzard forces you to stop it, they give you a free ticket in addition to any other free tickets they might hand out. As a rule of thumb it is best to *always* have an unfinished run floating around.
Now the example. We have 7 players:
A: Is bad in arena, but maximizes gold, so plays out all games and finishes 2-3 on average. He does *not* leave an *unfinished* run behind. B: is a decent player in arena, maximizes gold, so plays out all games and finishes 6-3 on average. He does *not* leave an *unfinished* run behind. C: Is bad in arena, but knows about the arena ticket trick, so he *does* leave an unfinished run behind. Since he is bad, he usually gets no win before having 2 losses (he plays them out anyway, just hoping to get a single win :)) D: is a decent player in arena, knows about the arena ticket trick, so he *does* leave an unfinished run behind. He usually gets 4 wins on average before having 2 losses. E: This is an infinite player. Insanely good in the arena. Never below 5 wins, even 5-2 is not common, has often 7+ wins before getting his second loss. F: never plays arena. He never buys arena tickets G: never plays arena. He always keeps a run open.
Scenario setup: Blizzard resets the arena 5 times per year, and every time it does, it hands out a free ticket. We assume 0/1/2/3/4/5/6 wins reward 5/15/30/50/75/105/140 gold on average (that's not true, but for sake of simplicity it's not a bad approximation)
A: gets 5 free tickets a year, all give him 5 packs and 5*30=150 gold on average.
B: gets 5 free tickets a year, all give him 5 packs and 5*140=700 gold on average.
C: gets 10 free tickets a year. 5 runs are ended early and he gains the rewards as if he reached 3 losses. To make up for the forceful cancellation, blizzard gives him a free ticket. In addition, he gets another free ticket like anybody else. In total, from the arena rewards, he gains 5 packs, and 5*5=25 gold on average, so 125 less than player A. But he gains 5 extra entries, which he simply uses without playing, so with early retirement he gains 5 packs more than player A but 125g less. that's 25g per pack, basically.
D: gets 10 free tickets a year. 5 runs are ended early and he gains the rewards as if he reached 3 losses. To make up for the forceful cancellation, blizzard gives him a free ticket. In addition, he gets another free ticket like anybody else. In total, from the arena rewards, he gains 5 packs, and 5*75=375 gold on average, so 325 less than player C. But he gains 5 extra entries, which he can use as he likes. They're worth 750 gold to him. Even if he plays rather badly with these 5 runs, he will probably make more money than player C AND he gains 5 packs more. But all in all, since a ticket is worth 150 to him, he wins 750-325=425 gold over player B.
E: This is the only player who needs to think WHEN to stop doing runs. If you have, say 9 wins and 2 losses, then, unless you really think you squeezed the last out of your deck, you should go further. Because now each win increases the total reward significantly. Do *not* stop if you have a good deck and a high win rate already. Continue playing runs until you get a sub-par deck or are unlucky in the beginning, going say 4-2 early on. That might be a good moment to stop. If you never get into that situation because you have just one 9+ win after the other ... then you probably don't need to care about maximizing your arena tickets anyway :D
F: Well, this player gets 5 free runs a year. Which he either never uses, or he crafts a deck and immediately retires, to reap 5 free packs.
G: Gains 10 free runs a year. Which he either never uses, or he crafts a deck and immediately retires, to reap 10 free packs. Of course he makes sure to always keep at least one run open.
All in all: your average reward for ending the run will be less, because you likely would have gained extra wins. But unless you are an absolute arena expert, and don't get into a single bad run before the rotation, keep an unfinished arena run. it's worth it. If you absolutely have no time for arena: even more so: buy that one arena ticket. Keep an unfinished run. Once the reset happens, use one of the 2 tickets you got to start another run. You can either accrue tickets over time, or simply retire. Having an unfinished run is, unless you are player E, always better
You do not have to *play* in the arena for your run to count, but you *might* have to craft a 30 card deck. It is definitely enough to have a crafted deck, 0 wins and 0 losses - blizzard will give you that extra free ticket.
Please note that for RoS, afaik, blizzard did *not* promise any free ticket. I.e., without a run open you get nothing, if you have an open run, you will still get a free ticket to make up for your "loss". As explained above, unless you are player E, you have nothing to lose by not finishing that run.
Please hit like if this cleared things up for you, otherwise let me know if there are still things unclear.

B: gets 6 free tickets a year, all give him 6 packs and 6*140=840 gold on average.
C: gets 12 free tickets a year. 6 runs are ended early and he gains the rewards as if he reached 3 losses. To make up for the forceful cancellation, blizzard gives him a free ticket. Even if he plays rather badly with these 6 runs, he will probably make more money than player C AND he gains 6 packs more. You are forgetting the main factor - time. Playing out an entire arena run can take a few hours, which most ppl will not want to do. So yes, they could have gotten a bit more rewards on average, especially if they are good arena players, but it would cost them a lot more time. If you just start the run and leave it be (or if you have time, play it out as much as you want), you will get free rewards in terms of time/resources invested.
Thanks for the info. I will do a draft tonight and probably will play till I have 2 losses (shouldn't take long) and then just wait.

So we can get two free ticket - one for unfinished run and second after Shadows launch ?
Was there any info about a free ticket on ROS launch? i dont think iv seen that. Only arena ticket (beside this one, which for obvious reasons wont be mentioned by Blizzard) in reference to ROS iv seen was a part of the Shadow Bundle which will get you 9 packs and the arena ticket.

so you had none left or 2 less than what you expected to have?
Unfortunately I don't know how many I have, never wrote it down and I doubt it can be checked anywhere (except during rotation when they tell you). But I will for sure write it down this time...

never save up your free tickets. I lost 2 tickets once by doing this. For some unknown reason they where suddenly gone one day
This is strange, since i have 4 tickets on my acc in my other regions (Asia and US). They do stack. That being said, maybe it happened to you like with the first few when they introduced the "mechanic", so im not saying it couldnt have happened, but nowadays you shouldnt be worried about not redeeming the tickets, mine are at least 2 years old.
Realistically, these days they're all pretty close. Play the class you're best at. I'm a fan of Warlock personally, because the hero power is so good. Just take the best cards out of the first 5 or so options and then decide if you're going aggro or control style. It's not foolproof, but usually nets me 5ish wins.

Are the times on official launch time accurate? ir subject to change?
Guys, what class is the best in arena. I have to choose between hunter, Warlock and Mage.
Is it more convenient to leave the run at 0-0 or try to make some wins?
thank you
