Mage with the Hunter hero power has proven pretty good for me. It's not as good later on when you face better decks and players, but the insane rush and burst potential means it's you're almost guaranteed to get quite a few wins.
Some Taunts and other crap i dont remember anymore
The game was your typical priest shitshow where he steals your cards and beats you with em, but on top of that, it had the rogue premium cards as well. Friggin Omega Medic that got bounced by Brewmaster healed him for stupid 20hp(!) And if that wasnt enough, Tess replayed all his Rogue cards (cause his first class was Priest), but also the stolen and discovered Paladin cards (mine) which also then gave him even more shit to play, I couldnt be even mad, i was just sitting there getting bullied :D If that dude didnt get 12 i dont know who could.
I wouldn't worry overly about Class synergies - Arena is still mostly about board control and tempo, in fact with Mage board clear diluted it's even more about that. So select to get a good mana curve, early board presence and removal and you should be grand.
gotta admit that (dual) Arena is pretty depressing for someone who hasn't played it that much. You've looked up tons of info and tips, curved out nicely, said no to dumb deck ideas, but then you lose 0-3 to perfectly crafted decks that just keep on coming up with answers.
just my opinion not a great argument or anything, but: I think for Hallow's End, it might've been nice to maybe make Arena way, way more RNG, I mean, to make it more likely people will hit weird combos and more whackier cards in general, so as to make it more fun for everyone (except pros maybe haha), since heaps of peeps are trying it out right now.
I gave up after 5 runs, and most of those games were just total oppression from t1. But then when I won, it was usually a walk in the park, as well. But yeah cool idea still, tho as people have pointed out, there aren't that many class cards to go around so those sweet combos doesn't really appear that often.
I feel like, in general, the people who play arena all the time have effectively closed the door to non-arena players. They're too good, so only when there's an influx of new players (like now) do the normal players have a chance to do well.
Personally, I don't play a ton of arena, but I used to average about 4 wins a few years ago. That dropped to 2 when I tested the arena waters during the Un'Goro era, and has remained between 2-3 when I've occasionally popped in since then. During special events I can usually get closer to 4 wins, so I still play during those, but averaging 2-3 wins outside the events has killed my desire to play it at other times. Given a choice of inefficiently spending gold on arena runs against experienced players to hopefully learn and improve, or just giving arena up and spending gold on packs, I choose the latter. Let the sharks consume each other.
Had one run with 6 wins with mostly just regular minions, had no legendaries at all. (Shaman -mage)
Then I got to priest -shaman good amount of removal and 1 drops, 2 bonemares, the lich king and the 6/6 that gives the 0/8 treasure. I also had a ton of heal (the shaman 12 health spell and the priest 3 mana gain 10 health). Guess what: I lost 3 in a row to decks which just had amazing answers to everything.
So that was is my run for this event, pretty dissapointed
Also Giggling Inventor is still goin strong even after the nerf, cant actually believe that card was ever 5 mana hehe. I mean obviously for constructed 7 is probably too high, but for arena id say its actually fair for what it does.
I played 3 arenas since the start of the event (2 with the tickets, 1 with my own gold*):
- Hunter + Rogue - 9-3 (can't remember if this ended with 8 and the warlock/paladin with 9) - Warlock + Paladin 8-3 - Hunter + Paladin - 9-3
One thing I witnessed was how powerful the paladin buff cards were in those runs. Either in a beast synergistic or in a board-flooding deck (in warlock I got Doubling Imp and pre-nerfed Giggling Inventor as well). Divine Favor was really useful for my hunter deck.
Unlike Sinti I almost didn't see a mage deck (only 2 opponents and lost to only 1 of them cuz they had 2 gigglings and a bouncer for one of them + Omega Agent).

Considering Arena requires investment and gives you real rewards I don't think there's any obligation for the mode to be somehow made easier for new/bad players. It's designed as a highly competitive game mode. That said, I don't know why Blizzard's never created a Casual mode for Arena where you can play Arena-style drafts without entry fees or rewards. You would think there'd be an audience for that and it would allow people a chance to learn the mode in a less brutal setting.
I assume you were talking more in general about Arena there, but I wanted to point out that my original comment was about the Dual Arena event: that since it now attracts Arena newbies, it would've made sense to make it more accessible to us who don't frequent it.
Still, it's pretty cool HS has a feature that makes the game totally f2p if you just push yourself to learn the Arena gameplay.
To be honest, arena became quite newbie friendly lately and this event is no different. Get lucky with a draft or RNG and you can win while picking your nose. Draft an early curve and curve out and gg, nothing much to it. Sure, the experience will kick in the the long run and/or will get you higher average if you play enough, but i would definitely not say that the current state of arena is not newbie friendly at all.

I trust your take on that. Used to play it with more concentration two years ago, and was learning to win, but didn't have that experience when I tried it again this summer and then again now with dual arena, but I have very limited experience this time around as I don't have a pile of gold to try it more than a handful of times.
Yeah, i get that. Arena will always be about dedication from start and it is more about if you actually enjoy that format than about anything else; if you do, you dont mind the gold sink in the beginning and as you play, you will start gettin it back over time and in the meantime, you will play the game mode you enjoy.
Btw, case in point about how i said anyone can win: my opponent just topdecked Master Oakheart and won off that single "play". He had empty board and was about to be dead. He was playing like a potato, but RNG saved him and literally donated him the game. This happens more than you would think.
It is a double-edged sword, the RNG allows bad players to win, but it will also end some of your runs early. Arena never was about getting in and making a buck from a few runs, it always was a long grind, but one that in time would get more profitable than farming 100g in ranked; and as i said, if you actually enjoy the format, then you are just growing your collection through a game mode you like :)
I need a lot of help. I'm not drafting stupid combos or ultra greedy decks. I'm going by tier lists going for curvestone. I'm picking good classesa and making good trades.....still about to go 0-3 AGAIN. How are you guys building such insane decks with ridiculous synergy? I've been offered fungalmancer exactly zero times but almost every opponent seems to have it on 5.

Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination.
I just completed an Arena run and was 0/6 on my "play 6 pirates" quest before I started. I'm positive I didn't draft a single pirate, don't remember getting one from card generation and yet it's now showing 1/6. Probably this is because I played one game against Uther who was dressed in a pirate costume! :D

Day 1 of the new Dual Arena and my first draft isn't looking very good at all. 10 picks to go. Wish me luck.
check out pick #21 's choices! just abysmal!!

Yesterday i played vs a pretty disgusting deck (Priest+Rogue). I could not believe it :D It went something like this

As I suspected, the rogue hero power does wonders for the warrior's Mithril Spellstone.
you guys got any tips? i won 6 in one run but every other run has lost to absolutely disgusting decks and insane rng/draws, often only getting 2 wins.

Go for early curvestone, tempo is still the king in most games.

i was wondering if you could share your draft list from your 12 win run? It would be nice to see what types of synergies work.
I think you wanted to respond to KrajdaCZ, no?:)
Anyway, if you want to see some 12-win decks, check our dedicated 12 win thread. Quite a few ppl already submitted some decks from the dual arena.

My deck:
Rogue(portrait) / Warlock(HP)
Did I get this right ? (I almost never play arena)
Custom cards :
CLASSES : Alchemist (CCC#5 | Phase V) | Chef (CCC#4)
EXPANSIONS : Year of the Scorpion (Year Comp)
I played 3 arenas since the start of the event (2 with the tickets, 1 with my own gold*):
