Drafted a shaman deck with 3 Masters of Reality, a decent curve, and 3 AOEs (one Lightning Storm and two Volcano). Still started 0-2.
I lost the first to a druid who hit me with spreading plague (they got 4 scarabs) to protect a Cobalt Scalebane, while I had a board with lots of weaker minions. I killed two scarabs, but they followed that up with a charging Druid of the Claw and Savage Roar to finish me off. I never drew any AOE, despite having two Possibility Seekers.
The second was a loss to a paladin who swarmed the board early. Again I tried Possibility Seeker in a desperate attempt to get an AOE, and again I struck out, as it replaced by hand with all three Masters of Reality, a Fire Elemental, and a Bone Drake...all my expensive cards.
Beat a warlock in my next game, so at least I won't go 0-3, but matches definitely seem more difficult than they did last week. I feel like my opponents all had better card quality than me in the early game. The warlock just had too many spells and not enough minions.
So, is murozond the single most overrated card from this? Aggressive decks don't mind it, but for anything resembling control it's a one way ticket to fatigue town, much like the 4 mana 5/5 that mills half your deck because people just freeze or drop tiny taunts. Bleh. Should have gone for cairne, really, as a P1. Pretty sure wildlands adventurer is overrated because it's highrolls are nuts, though there's value in most.
Murozond rly depends on your draft and then on the game state ur in, you have to evaluate if you can take advantage of it or if it will kill you, i wouldnt say it is the most overrated card, but it is definitely a hard one to play properly.
Wildlands Adventurer is definitely a high/low roll card, but it is still a 5/5 for 5 that gives you a card, that is still very good value for its cost, no matter if you get Ragnaros or Ice Lance. There might be better picks alongside it in the draft, im not denying that, but Adventurer is a solid standalone card, high roll or not ;-)
Agree with Sinti on Wildlands Adventurer. Regardless of the variance, even lowrolling is great. Think about Ghastly Conjurer. That's a pretty highly rated card on heartharena. A 4 mana 2/6 that gives a Mirror Image is pretty good. Now if Wildlands Adventurer could give a Mirror Image, that would be considered a lowroll. But a 5/5 body for 5 is better than a 2/6 body for 4.
So which mechanics from these new cards do you guys think might have a place in constructed?
Personally, I think something like Stasis Dragon seem ripe for the next set(s).
I see Timeway Wanderer as having a mechanic that could become a thing. It's like Primordial Glyph, but you don't get the card immediately, you delay drawing a card from your deck, but you get a bigger discount. Of course, you get a body attached, but a relatively understatted one. That's relatively balanced. It might need some change in terms of the body and discount, but if you really compare it to card discovery to hand, card discovery to topdeck could be pretty balanced.
Please no infinite value minions though. People hated jades. People hate kingsbane decks. Then again, Coldlight Oracle is out, so it's possible that they were making way for these slower growing minions. It's more balanced than jades in the sense that it's not a whole class of minions and spells that help them grow. It would just be those two copies of the minion that grow and get shuffled.
And we all know how incredibly balanced Cavern Dreamer is.
I Iove fatecleaver. But having it in constructed might break combo decks and be too generally disruptive to be fun. For instance, killing a lifedrinker or saronite chain gang makes the shudderwock combo quite a bit weaker and more rng reliant, and killing shudderwock means they won't have infinite bounce anymore. And against non combo decks, most decks consist mostly of duplicate cards. Having copies of my elven minstrel and faldorei strider erased without being able to do anything about it would feel shitty. It's also broken against spreading plague. In general, it's too interactive and put potentially broken as is. It's perfect for arena though. Most of the time just a 4/2 weapon, but sometimes op af.
I'm doing quite well with warlock. The 5 mana guy discover a spell discount it by 5 is great with the hero power. I'm now 5 runs in a row with 7+ wins (7,8,7,9,10). Only thing, i'm constantly getting screwed when i play feeding rime when i have only a big guy. Opponent ALWAYS has the 3 drop that steal a random minion (forgot the name) and ALWAYS get my big guy. A part from this i'm having a great time
I have a 7-5 record against paladins overall in this event, but I swear, every time I lose to them it's because of Silver Sword. In my last loss (ending a Mage run at 4 wins), I cleared my opponent's board three times while he was using that sword, and he kept managing to refill with decent minions (a Primordial Drake and hero power, at the end). The attack, the durability, the effect...altogether, I think they're too strong. I feel like a 1 attack sword with that durability, cost, and effect would be more fair.
So, in the end, I finished 11 arena runs (across two accounts and three regions) with an average of 4.64 wins, which is pretty good for me. Highlights were a 10-win druid (with no UI, strangely enough) and a 9-win paladin.
I played Mage the most, but only topped out at 6 wins twice. Had one Mage deck with 5 Steam Surgers and 3 Blizzards, and I'd expected great things from it, but it lost once to aggro and twice where I only drew one of those cards in the first half of my deck. I also found Blizzard to be harder to use than I'd expected...it's expensive enough that if I didn't have a board, it was mostly just a stall, because 2 damage didn't kill much. Most of my mage decks didn't have Cavern Dreamer, and when I did get him once, he kept giving me useless spells (Deadly Poison, Totemic Might, Sense Demons...I got 'em all).
With regards to regions, I really struggled in Asia. I averaged 2.4 wins in Asia over 5 runs, 5.7 wins in EU over 3 runs, and 7.3 in NA over 3 runs. All tiny data points, but I was surprised, because in the past Asia was where I usually did best.
I liked this event, but I think I'm done with arena until the next expansion. The small card pool that exists in Standard now doesn't really appeal to me.
I really really enjoyed this event. I'm not huge into Arena, but I pretty much played Arena exclusively throughout the event. I didn't track my average, but it was likely between 3 and 4 wins. My best was a 7-win run, and I had three 6-win runs. But I also didn't get below 2-wins in any run. I started the event with 2200 gold, and ended it with the exact same amount. So unfortunately overall a losing proposition considering that includes the daily quests. However, it obviously was an overall gain because of the amount of cards/dust I gathered (up to 18,000 dust now and started the event at about 12,000 dust).
The new cards were tons of fun to play with...really changed the dynamic of the game. I agree that Paladin's Silver Sword kills me everytime I see it...far too powerful for the bucket its in. And everyone knows the pain of a Cavern Dreamer they couldn't take care of early enough. I did soooo many Arena runs mainly because I wanted to try Chromie, but unfortunately despite many legendary picks in my runs, I never had the chance to choose her. Oh well.
I will now finish my free non-event arena run and probably not touch arena too much until the next event or maybe the next expansion. Great event Blizzard!! Do it more!!

Dont forget you got a pack from every run plus a dust or a card here and there, so if you ended up on the same gold amount, you definitely got some more value from the arena overall, so i wouldnt say you are in red numbers, even after counting gold from daily quests (even if you had 100g quest every day) ;-)
I kind of liked it, but the mechanics were definitely a bit ballsed up. I went from 5.8 average wins to 4.4, and this is despite more newbie players playing. Some decks were just pure ridiculousness; when I reached 12 wins, I felt a bit dirty because of the OP deck I drafted that clearly left no chance to the opponent (I'm looking at you, Warlock deck with super draw mechanics and 4 Timebound Giants). When I lost, sometimes with what would be considered a stunning normal deck, I'd get absolutely thrown on my arse by stupid, and I mean ridiculously stupid tempo swing cards to which there was NO POSSIBLE ANSWER, even if I had a third of my deck in my hand.
However, along with the quests, I made nearly 3.5k gold and 6.8k dust in 3 weeks and have nearly completed my WW collection. So, really, really can't complain.
I am so, so stoked that normal arena is back. Just drafted a mage deck with my free arena ticket, it's not exactly a world-beater, but I know exactly what I'm up against and how my cards work. Can't wait to get going!
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I wasn't planning on going for a run today. But those cops came out of nowhere.

Now that is event is over, I have to say I'll miss it. It was a refreshing change, and although mage was too good, it was nice that shaman and hunter got a boost. Hope they do stuff like this more.

I must say i hated the state shaman was in even more than mage. Mage was #1 no question, but if/when you managed to deal with the early Cavern Dreamers, the biggest problem was over (usually).
But shamans, oh man ... the problem r power buckets and how often r Hex/Volcano offered, like 8+ times per draft. That alone wouldnt be enough, but Master of Realities, again offered like 3+ almost each draft, was what made shaman insane. Just clear the board over and over and play one MR after another until one sticks and win the game. Disgusting. I mean i probably beat a lot of shamans, more than i lost to, but the match always left a nasty taste in my mouth, similar to KAC priest, where they just had an answer to every single board state imaginable at any stage of the game. Shaman felt kinda like this during the event.
That being said i did enjoy the event very much, i will be glad to see it again in the future.

As an arena player of super elite (hehe), I enjoyed this event a lot. Good job Blizzard! :)

Was fun but drafts were imbalanced. Had 21 runs with a 4.5 win average. Had 2x 12 wins and 6x under 3 wins.
Best classes for me were Paladin, Mage, Hunter and Druid. On the other end, Rogue and Warlock were terrible.
