Before I get into the question in the topic, let me give you some quick backstory.
I'm a mediocre Hearthstone Player. Best finish on ladder was R5 (3*Masters if anyone remembers that, but it doesn't really count, now does it?). My average Arena score was 5,7 with a lot of consistency on 6 and 7 wins. Best Arena finish was 11-3 (achieved 4 times).
However, my recent Arenas were(in order, oldest on top):
6-3 (Rogue)
3-3 (Paladin)
4-3 (Mage)
1-3 (Warrior)
5-3 (Druid)
3-3 (Warlock)
4-3 (Priest)
2-3 (Paladin)
1-3 (Druid)
3-3 (Mage)
So, back to the question: Am I broken? I cannot get past 5 wins, I can't break through Rank 8 on Ranked. Recently, I started just buying 2 packs every 3 days instead of getting to Arena, just because I constantly (and quite consistently) lose money on it. I don't even play Ranked much because I balance too much on Rank 14-11. On Casual, I face same decks as on Ranked, so for the longest time I avoid Casual altogether. My average win dropped to 5,1 since I am on my "loss streak".
Also, a question to much better players than me(which is not that hard, as you can see): Do you get "burned out" at Hearthstone? If so, how often? If not, how do you avoid it?

The cards may be evil, but nothing is as evil as the player using them.
I found I've been sucking at arena lately too. What I'm trying now is only doing arena during the same hours... 6-8 pm EST I find I get most of my wins at that time. As tempting as it is to just power through I think selecting the same timeframe is wise.
it is so easy to get burned at hearstone specially because the lack of change (i know we got a patch 1 month ago with nerfs... but during the time we get only naxxramas in mtg they got 4 expansion cards!!) so to avoid it i try to change beetween gimmickie decks in casual or constructed, or serious games in constructed, serious arena, and yolo arena (like only taking the cards on the left...) and also sometimes seeing streams,.
What I don't like about the arena is the lack of balance - on my last run I got to choose rares twice and no legends while 2 of my opponents had (at least because that's what they managed to put on the board) 2 legends each. I wish there was something like a granted one legendary and let's say two or three epics. Still got a golden Molten Giant after a 1-3 run :P
this change nothing my best runs the 12-0 were mostly without nay epic/legendary. and i got bad runs (5 wins) with 1-2 legends. the epic and legend card does not have such a high impact in arena mostly because they are situational cards or cards that help with some synergie, and also soemtimes because you misplay in order to gain value out of them
To be honest, lately I have the idea that the games at 0-x and 1-x are harder then those between 2-x and 5-x. For some reason I always meet the absurd decks in the first few games, get 2 losses and then proceed to 5-2 without any problems, ending up at 6-3 on average. Don't know what it is, but it has been a long time since I had a nice and clean 5-0 start...
i have opposite problem, usually i roflstomp to 4-0 5-0 then i get roflstomped to 4-3 5-3 :X its gettin rly frustrated cause most of those losses aint even that opponent has better deck or playes better, just my fckn mulligan suck 3 times in a row and i cant do shit about it even tho i have usually around 10 1-2 mana cards i get 3 games in a row where i dont get any in my first four turns and game is over ... :X but i love playin arena anyways :P
I'll likely get dumped on by the general forum elitism, but a former rank 5 and a 5.7 win Arena rate is definitely not a mediocore player. Imho you can clearly use the adjective "good". Not exceptional, not professional, but I think mediocore is way too hard on your acccomplishments

This , Op youa re a good palyer, Tilt and frustration are bound to happen sooner or later you should take a couple of days away from the game or just playig some for fun matches with friends before retaking on your Arena and your gameplay.
Arena is getting harder because people are getting better and bad players don't play anymore.
Also, your name isn't Undertaker, so you're not broken.
Also ppl r gettin much greedier from what iv noticed. They could clear your board and still be in good position but they left that one guy out and they r behind taunt and go for face for 4 more dmg and then they r punished heavily for not clearing board cause that one guy can make your play 1000x better and cost efficient then if he would have died. At least i get to punish them for it quite often :)
The secret to consistent 7+ wins is to counter the arena meta. Before, people picked bad cards, and you could win just by picking good cards. Now everyone picks the highest value cards. All the time.
And that's a weakness you need to exploit. Say it's pick number one, and you have a choice between Sunfury Protector, and Sunwalker. Most players would choose Sunwalker, because, derp, tier list! But the mathematically correct choice is Sunfury. Tiny edges like this are what's separating players who get 7+ wins over and over today from those who can only do it sometimes.
Work on your pick prioritizations, understanding of tempo, and card draw percentages to take your game to the next level.
Greetings, fellow players.

Agreed. Value for value's sake doesn't work well in the face of a good curve, or tempo, or aggro...
