Sooo... If all arena runs are retired on 24 october, but you get a the rewards + a new ticket, it would make sense to start an arena run someday now, and stop when you have 2 losses and let it retire right? Free rewards + new run :)
This new ticket will count as one of two free tickets you get from this event. So, it doesn't matter if you have an arena run unfinished or not, you will get only two free arena tickets.
... that makes absolutely no sense. The rewards you get on the retired run will be based on your wins, just like a completed run, or even a run you manually retire. By stopping at 2 losses, you forfeit any additional rewards from possibly winning more games.

But you get an additional Arena run, from what it sounds like.
So what the OP is saying is that it looks like you could potentially get a 2-loss arena run rewards for nothing (if they reimburse the ticket).
In addition to the 2 free tickets from the event, it looks like they will be offering another ticket for runs that are incomplete.
At least, I hope it's that way, although I will say I had the exact same thought as OP and was wondering why Blizzard would offer something so easy to exploit.

If that's the case, it's not a good idea. Could be me, but if I read this, it appears I would get one for logging in and one for my arena run being retired.
Log in between Oct. 24 at09:00 and 22:00 on Oct. 30 to receive one Whispers of the Old Gods card pack and an Arena ticket.
Log in between Oct. 31 at 24:00 and 22:00 on Nov. 5 to receive one Knights of the Frozen Throne card pack and an Arena ticket.
* NOTE: If you have an Arena run in progress when Hallow’s End begins on October 24, then it will be retired and you’ll receive the normal rewards for the number of wins you achieved and a free Arena ticket. In the hours just before the beginning and conclusion of Hallow’s End on October 24 and November 6, it will temporarily be impossible to purchase a new Arena ticket.

It is profitable to leave an unfinished run before 24th, u will get the rewards from the run and basically get a refund on your entry fee: u will get an EXTRA arena ticket, so u will have two arena tickets on 24th ;-) It doesnt replace the one u will get for free as part of the event, that would make zero sense to work like that, ppl who would have unfinished arena runs would be robbed by one arena ticket or their run (=entry + rewards), that is not how this is gonna work.
Hmm... I guess it'll depend on the state of my run when I hit 2 losses. If I'm at 3-4 wins or less, I may do this, but if I have a good run going, I'm going to push for 12, even if I would get more rewards mathematically by waiting for the auto-retire.
What'll be interesting is once the cutoff point has passed and no more arena tickets can be purchased, how will the player pool be affected? How skewed will the matchmaking become as the number of players available shrinks? Will it be a good time to shoot for the dream? Or just the opposite?

What do u mean by "no more arena tickets can be purchased"? Do u mean when its late into 23rd and ppl will save their run to be retired next day?
OP is correct. You will get two free tickets for the logins, and if you have an active run leading up to the event, youll just get another free ticket on top of all the rewards you would have had. The reasoning behind this is that people have in the past when the rules changed, held on to an over-powered deck and then abused the weaker competition after rule-changes to ride to a 12-win run. By crediting your wins wherever they are, they are able to force-remove your deck regardless of its power level and guarantee all participants are on an equal playing field. It is in your best interest to play until you get 2 wins on your last arena run prior to the event, and then wait. If you look like your going to get 12 wins, then go ahead and purchase another run, and keep going till you have worse luck. I'll be doing this, you probably should too.

Well, I had a Druid run at 6-2 earlier, decided to push for 7 and got stoned by another druid. But the doors were not yet closed, so I bought in for a hunter run... which quickly reached 1-2. I decided I'd rather go 1-3 than chicken out and let it retire, so I rode it... and won. Rode it again... and won. And again. And again. So now it sits at 5-2.
And I've reached my mandatory shut down time of the night because I work tomorrow. And I need my sleep because I'm old. Sigh.

You won't.
Oh yes we did. I got the free rewards from my 2-losses Arena run and I have 2 Arena Tickets in my Arena.
My bet is you have 1 Arena Ticket in your Arena and will (like me) get an extra next week.
