Why people hink arena is worth pay with gold or real money? you dont get anything good in there if you dont get lucky and they offer you good cards. So why even try arena? rewards arent very good if you dont win atleat 6 times a row.

The moment you earn 50 gold in the arena you've broke even for the value of a pack + what you paid.
Anything at all you get beyond that is a better net worth. Getting 7+ wins pays for the run entirely and earns you additional goodies. Free packs, free dust, free cards.
I have a limited time to play a day, and sometimes not every day. If you enjoy it, I feel it is worth it since the average is 3 wins (my max has been 5 games). However, it is a large investment in time and I don't enjoy it as much as constructed so I just buy packs from my dailys and play on the ladder.
i enjoy arena ofc but at 4-5 win dont earn yet lost gold back as anything. 1 pack is ofc but dust or gold you get, not even worth that lost 50gold actually.
Unfortunately i stopped playing Arena over a month ago and i won't play it until Blizzard changes something about it. When i started playing, my winrate in constructed was about 25% so it was very hard getting gold and new cards. So i played Arena and was pretty good at it getting 5,8 wins winning 109 gold on average. It was profitable for me, but still it's not worth it. There are several disadvantages:
1. Arena takes time. 6-3 run is 9 games which in Arena are slower than Constructed, that is about 2 hours.
2. Arena wins do not count towards "3 win 10 gold" quest. When i got most of good commons and half good rares, it became easier to farm gold in Ranked. In the same 2 hours i can make 21-24 wins that will get me 70-80 gold.
3. Arena wins do not count towards golden hero portraits, maybe not an argument for somebody, but it's important for me.
4. The last and most important... Arena is boring. Unfortunately. Really, i don't see why is everyone so excited about it. It's like Hunter's Naxx class challenge (that everybody likes too). You get random cards, sometimes perfect, sometimes awful. Still you can go 1-3 with perfect deck or 9-3 with absolute crap (my own experience). RNG is not fun. And later Arena even became predictable because everybody drafts according to arenavalue or something. Even more boring(

you know, when i have 80+% commons and 50+% rares and i spend 100 gold buying a pack and get 4 commons 1 rare that i already have, i miss the times when i got 50 dust from Arena...
well i went from 175 gold to 1325 in 6 days while opening like 40 packs from the arena runs so i'd say it's pretty worth it. however that's not for everyone, like i struggle to get to legend each season, because i find laddering very boring some people struggle in arena. that's just what it is, some people are more suited for arena , some for constructed.
Arena is only worth if you know how to play it consistently and manage to get 5 or more victories at least. It requires knowledge of the format (it's different than constructed) and experience.
I see some small problems with arena, though:
1 - As it was already pointed, arenas won't count for hero leveling, which is a bummer. 2 - IMO 150g fee is somewhat expensive if you are trying to build a collection, since the biggest prizes requires 10-12 wins. Since most people will, at best, get 5-6 wins, they will only earn a booster and some dust. It's cheaper in terms of time investment - just to do the dailies and save for the daily booster. 3 - Arena a sea of sharks nowadays, and most people that play Arena are the ones with lot's of experience. There is no ranking system to separate newcomers from people that regularly put 8 or better streaks. Newer players get discouraged once they get their third loss in the arena. 4 - There is no way to practice arena for free, like in the constructed format. People have no chance to test and improve deck building skills before entering the real competition.
@Kunigunde53 your math is interesting) You could be right if you don't take into account the most valuable resource in Hearthstone. No, it's not gold, dust or real money. It's time.
Let's say i have 2 hours to play in the evening. My choices are:
1. Play Arena. I spend 150 gold. I am above average player, so i usually get 4 wins. This evening i was lucky and got 5! So i drafted, played 8 games 10 minutes each, and won 70 gold. So i have a pack and minus 80 gold. And my time is almost up.
2. Play Constructed. I spend nothing. I have a Zoo or Hunter deck. It wins or loses in 3-4 minutes. I get 10 wins per hour with it. So after 2 hours i get +70 gold. And +20 matches towards Golden Hero.
So your "1 win: 3.33 gold" doesn't work here. It's "2 hours: 70 gold".
No offense, but if you average 3 wins you should consider spending your time doing something else, or at least watching streams and studying in order to learn how to play.
I'm playing Arena currently, and my highest win streak was 6. I can't seem to break 7. I will try daily questing and then just buying card packs to see if I can get anything good. However, I do think arena is much more worth it. Even though the cards are random, if you are able to achieve 8 wins or something you're guaranteed an epic card or something like that.
People also need to factor in the gold that you would get if you won games in ladder or regular play. Ex... 3 games won = 10 gold. If you win 6 games in arena and lose 3, you need to factor in that extra 20 gold you would've had if you played in regular play.
From my own results, the average reward from 6 wins is exactly 100 gold. Even as few as 4 wins will net you 68 gold. And out of my (admittedly few) times of going >=10 wins, I get 292 gold on average. And that's only counting gold, not dust/packs. I would say Arena is really good, unless you have no time for games and can't both play Arena and complete daily quests (maybe if you only log in every 3 days for quests?)
Taking into account the opportunity cost of not getting the 10g/3 wins, the value of a pack (100g) and the average rewards reported by arenamastery, the answer is between 3 and 4, depending on how you value the cards and the dust. My estimates for those things had the answer at 4, but if you put more generous values on them, an argument could be made for 3 wins.
Taking out the nebulous values I had for dust and card rewards, and leaving only the gold and pack as the reward, the answer was a solid 4.
So either way, 0-2 wins is a straight loss, and you were better off just spending 100g on the pack. And 4 wins is a clear profit, and you're better off in the arena. 3 wins is unclear, and depends on how much you value cards and dust.
I like getting to play with a new deck every run... With cards I don't own yet... Against other people in the same position. I only play ladder to finish quests easier/faster when it doesn't match my arena hero. And I can only do that because of the cards I won from Arena already.
But if it isn't fun for you, don't do it. Don't do any of it if it isn't fun. This is a game. A game with no fees, so you can come and go at will. Have fun!
Personally I love Arena. It is what really drew me to this game. Getting to play against unusual decks and different cards has kept me interested. Also, I treat Arena like my own personal ATM. If you dedicate time and get good you will accumulate cards/dust/gold very quickly.
I've had runs from 1-3 up to 12-2. that alone tells me there is too much RNG in arena, which I don't like. Yes I probably average about 5-6 wins but there is too much variability for Arena to be a consistent source of gold farming. lately I play in arena once every 1-2 weeks for a change of pace. I prefer mining gold through dailies, which also affords the opportunity to take fun decks into casual to complete them.

No offense, but that's a really dumb thing to say. If you take your suggestion to its logical conclusion, then everyone should stop playing arena. No matter who's playing, there will always be people averaging 3 wins - just under 3 wins, actually. If those people quit today, then the competition will get stiffer tomorrow. Then slightly better players will start averaging 3 wins instead, at which point, according to you, they should quit playing too. Rinse. Repeat. Everybody quits.

That doesn't make any sense. The high degree of variability actually makes it a better source of gold farming. If you look at the statistics, you gain more marginal gold for wins above the average than you lose for wins below the average. That means you'll receive more gold if you go 12-x and 1-3 every other game than if you go 7-3 and 6-3 every other game, even though your average wins are the same.

If you dont enjoy arena then dont bother playing it. You can still get plenty of packs doing daily quests.

So, the http://www.arenamastery.com/sitewide.php page is cool. I took their information , and started a spreadsheet to work out the answer to this question.
