So im having trouble facing against priest in arena. Im starting to get the feeling blizz went over board and made priest OP but maby ive just been having bad luck. For instance just now started arena crafted a very nice paladin deck steam rolled my first 3 opponents then I face a priest and I think to myself well here is my first lost and i was correct lol. Im sure a lot of it is gimicky but between cleric card draw, the two shadow word board control cards, light well, and mind control I just have a terrible time facing priest especially in arena. Even if I have a comfortable board control in the matter of one turn the table can be completely flipped on me. Anyway just want to hear what you guys think and any advice you might have when facing a priest.
It's really the mind control that wins games; it's card advantage and an amazing minion all in one.
Best way I've found out to take out priests is a lot of mid-level minions 3-4 hp, with 3-4 attack; and nothing that can be silenced; they have one aoe; and if you never play that big minion then they'll waste a mind control on a small one just to try and stay alive. But so far priests are really strong; I had an arena with 3 mind controls, and it was pretty much a game to delay to 8 mana and then steal every big minion in existence
I got ogres, ony, ironbarks, a couple legendaries, some 5/5's, it just turns the game around
Yep, Mind control is the only card that really matters. Very often as you get to 8 mana you should consider playing around it by not putting your fattest minion on the board.
Mind Control, while perfectly balanced in normal games, is certainly the less fun card in the whole Arena.
Just because you are playing against a Priest, you are at a disadvantage. There is a chance that he may take your creatures, you don't know how many times, you don't know which ones, you don't know when.
If you try to lure the MC with an average card, anything can happen. He can take it and still have a few MC in his hand/deck. He can see that you are trying to lure him, and do nothing. You can't really outplay Mind Control.
In WOW, Mind Control requires you to channel the spell. Maybe Mind Control should end as soon as the Priest plays a new card to reflect that flaw and balance the game a little. Just a suggestion, but I find it satisfying.
Right now, facing a Priest in the Arena is the only thing that can break my fun playing the game.
I've been thinking about this and I reckon the reason priest is so strong in arena is that they don't rely on class synergy the way other classes do. For example if you're playing a hunter and you don't get beasts you're screwed 99% of the time, but with priests their big cards (the shadow words, mind control, temple enforcer etc) work just as well whatever your other cards are. And some of the synergy priests do require works off your hero power so of course you can always rely on it being there (eg. cleric, lightspawn)
Other classes have their strong cards like mind control, eg. flamestrike, but even flamestrike doesn't work as well in arena because while flamestrike is great, it's even better if you can cone of cold or frost nova turn 6 because that makes it much harder to play around flamestrike and it allows you to get something on the field which most likely won't get killed so you have board presence after turn 7. Mind control doesn't have any set-up to it at all, it's just all there in 1 card. It's faceless manipulator plus syphon soul without you having to randomly draft them in the same deck.
This is funny, I find priest is one of the weakest classes in arena. Mind control is powerful, to be sure, but I can't remember it "winning a game" for me or the other guy. It seems like the priest who effectively plays MC is already winning and it didn't matter, or he is losing and it's too little, too late. SW:P/D are great, but they're just a 1 for 1 and don't put anything on the board. Fire elemental, Flamestrike, Fiery War Axe. These are cards that win games. The truley powerful priest spells are Norshire cleric, Holy nova, and Shadow madness.
Mage is the beastlyest class in arena, hands down. So much control, so much damage. Poly and AOE for control, Fireball to the face. You never know if you are winning vs a mage. He has no minions and you have a bunch? Flamestrike INC. You have a big minion to play? Poly INC. You only have 20 some health? 3 Fireballs INC. Needless to say my arena record is the best with mage by a long shot. I have twice as many Mage 9 wins than any other class.
Of course like everything its situational but like others said I feel mind control can just completely turn the game around. I wouldnt go as far to say that priests are as OP as pre nerf rouge but I always get this bad feeling when I see im facing a priest in arena lol. What makes mind control so powerful is the only good way to counteract it is to have board control well established or board removal but even then you are spending a turn and cards on killing your own creature. Sure you can play around and always assume he has a mind control but that makes the card just as powerful as it is acts as a deterent to play your big cards. Just my thoughts
I agree that Arena mind control is OP. I just did arena and got my first legendary pick carne bloodhoof. During the game the priest used 2 mind controls on a couple high level taunt creatures of mine that i managed to take out. He managed to thoughtsteal my bloodhoof from deck late game and I still managed to kill it while we were both at the ends of our deck. So I finally draw my bloodhoof, last card lol. And I think, well he only has 2 cards left and already mind controlled twice, this game should be mine. I play it, and he freaking mind controls for a third time and takes it. A priest with 3 mind controls in one deck should not be allowed at all! So stupid!
From now on if I ever play arena and priest is an option I am definitely taking it. Mind control is BETTER then getting a legendary card, and you can get 3 of them in one deck !!!

you can have a lot more on your hand:) - I played against another priest once - copied some of his deck cards - well I had 6 Mindcontrols on my Hand by turn 8 - he had 5 - after my 6th Mind control on his 48/48 buffed Ysera he surrandered - it was a fun game:)
Mind control is ok, but only if you are depending on a single big creature to beat a priest. My win rate against priest in arena is 77%, with most of the losses from the classes I rarely play. You just need to know which cards to counter and what to expect (e.g. Never play a big creature unless you can kill it efficiently the next turn). If you are losing and have to play the big creature to stay alive then you already lost in the early game. At that point it wasn't mind control that won the game, that just sealed the game after you already lost it earlier. If you play for board advantage against a priest and don't play anything you can't deal with they have a dead card that uses their entire turn only for you to counter it and keep killing them. If you don't play for board advantage (without doing dumb things like playing a bunch of 3 attack creatures for shadow madness) you are playing very risky, they are one of the worst classes to try to rush and lose card efficiency by letting them pick the trades with their heal and power word: shields. If you just force even trades priests will lose most of the time, their class cards aren't very good (compared to other classes) in that situation and they will start to lose trades and the heal is useless if you kill everything they play. Just drain them of cards and once they are out THEN you attack them. Which also means multi-card combo to buff a creature really big is the worst thing you can do against a priest. A shadow word death or mind control and you lose multiple cards for their one. You want to spread the buffs out. Priest can't deal with very many medium sized creatures but they are good against a single huge one.
Oddly enough, my win rate against priest is the highest with priest at 88% :) I play the priest class the most in ranked so I know how to play against it, there are a lot of weaknesses if you know how to exploit them and make all their best spells and hero power bad.
I wish Blizzard would release some match making stats. Then it would be quite easy to tell if they are overpowered. I find I do well against Priests as a Mage because of the ability to chain damage together. I get #rekt as a Warrior almost everytime.
I wish some card qualities were different in arena to help with how common they are. If mindcontrol was a rare you'd only see it on some priests (instead of priests have multiples). Some classes don't have any board clearing spells since they're rare (shaman, warrior)
well, i've got rank Master * with hunter, but i must say that priest is too op right now. most of the classes have good damage/aoe but to kill any creature with 1 card is broken ... the mindcontroll thing needs a counter (like silence, and the creature returns to its owner), the way it is, its too damn powerfull.
The first time i played arena with a priest I went 7-3, the second series I went 9-1. Needless to say the latter arena series I had 4 mind controls and the loss was a disconnect.

these shadow word pain/death...... suck a pain in the ass. I hate these cards

If it worked like you described it, you'd have to be able to attack the turn you mind control then. Otherwise mind control would be useless
