#6 ironbeak- i think at this point that deck looks very heavy to pick another 5+ mana card u might have to sacrafice other good 5+ mana card for the sake of blank 2 drops later on ( i usually try to play with 5-7 cards that are 5+ mana with my rogue drafts atleast most of the time ofc.)
#8 deadly poison
#13 i would take tournament atendee , but with next pick ( argent horserider) your choise was better i think :)
#18 refreshment vendor
#19 considering i would take ironbeak , here id pick 2nd kraken
overall i think i play a bit more aggresive in arena :) i have never tracked my stats or used sites for picks so who i knows i might be newbie :P
Pally Deck #1 - Definitely a lot more early game picks. Charge minion with BOM buff and the Dire wolf is much more aggressive play style. I am not sure how successful I am playing Paladin YOLO face lately so I am bit hesitant to take lesser value / faster minions in my drafts =(
Rogue #2 - Personally, I hate Runts, it's slow as hell, great in a longer game against smaller minions, but it feel it's very against most Rogue decks I make.
Rogue #3- The owl never caught my attention on #6. Even though the Sentinel is really slow and pretty bad, I was thinking either that, or the Sheep. I don't think I've drafted owl in a long time. Don't see the value of it, but this could be my mistake. #8 Poison I can agree with sure. #13, no way ! Gotta be Oil =) You would have also ended up with 3x Krakens ! haha
No worries, its good to get ideas in writing because it takes actual thought to reason out your choices. It's helpful to everyone.
Boozer- I would probably always rate Sea Giant slightly better than PSG. I have had two recent runs where Sea Giant has just been so easily dealt with (Flame Lance, or Pally shenanigans) that I am valuing deathrattle more in my new drafts. Maybe I am just having bad luck (I did just get a pally down to 1 HP and was threatening lethal and his shredder gave him Armor smith). I dont think that pick will define your run though.
I would have picked PSG over sea giant in like 2 sec without even considering sea giant, but now with the discussion here maybe I should consider the options more.
Welp guys 6-3 was the final count on the Paladin deck. The AW did okay - but the lack of the late game hurt this deck the most against other value decks. I don't think curve issues cost me any games though, some games had very good openings but still lose the gas. The lack of 5 drops probably hurt the chances the most.
I think in Paladin I like Sea Giant, however other classes I might consider PSG better valued.
___________
On that note - I finally got over broke this 15+ game cold streak by going 10-3on a Warlock I drafted. So all it took was a class i rarely play to get over the hump :)
Then I followed it up with a 12-1Rogue. It was 11-0 and I lost the first boss encounter. On first sight the deck looks really crap. Top minion card is a 5-mana Dark Iron Skulker. Rest are all tempo oriented. Even Shadowstep, I managed to get some value from it. Tinker's Oil closed some games and even Assassin's Blade was useful.
One game I activated Mind Control Deck 3 times on one turn. Hard cast / Rewinder / Shadow step. While having Violet Teacher on the board..... That was nuts.
Anyways take a look it was a pretty fun deck, bit surprising.
After going on another half dozen runs with little gold return, I took a bit of a break over the long weekend so no fresh draft at the moment to critique,
But I did want to share a pretty critical error my Paladin opponent made in my current Mage run in what was otherwise an INSANE opener. For your amusement, I'll go through the motions in detail here. It also shows that skill is indeed a huge part of success in this game. FYI: this Mage deck is on the wrong side of average.....
Villain: T3 - Trades Shielded Minibot into Stonesplinter Trogg and plays another Shielded Minibot. At this point he starts emoting. He has a 2/2 and a 2/2 with divine shield on the board. *Salt rising.........*
Hero: T4 - With no other 4 mana play, I play Sen'jin Shieldmasta*Praying no Blessing of Kings or Seal of Champions.......*
Villain: T4 - He plays Seal of Champions on the wrong Shielded Minibot and trades into Sen'jin Shieldmasta. He is left with a 5/2 and a 2/2 on the board. *Dear 6 pound baby Jesus.... please don't let me lose to this guy....*
Hero: T5 - I cast Frostbolt to take care of the 5/2 Shielded Minibot. With no other play with the remaining 3 mana, it between was Hero powering the 2/2 or cast Arcane Intellect, I went for the card draw since I didn't want to commit another 2 mana the following turn to finish it off. *Please miss your 5 drop.....*
Villain: T5 - He plays Pit Fighter, one of the strongest common 5 drops he could play here on an empty board. Swings at my face with his Shielded Minibot. His board is a 2/2 and a 5/6. *I guess it's not THAT bad.... never mind.... it's bad*
Hero: T6 - I play Boulderfist Orge to contest the board. *If he has Uldaman, game is pretty much over ....*
Villain: T6 - Up till this point in the game, he has dominated the board and has the initiative with his strong Paladin cards and trades. If he has an Aldor Peacekeeper or Keeper of Uldaman, the game would have surely been over since my Mage deck had no board removal. Luckily for me, this was my break in the game. He doesn't have any single target neutralizing card. Instead he plays the follow:
Hero: T7 - Easy ping on the 5/1 Pit Fighter, I play my Pit Fighter to contest against his Mechanical Yeti. This is the 1st time the whole game, I have a stronger board then he does. My 5/6 versus his 4/5. *I see an opening....*
Villain: T7 - He plays Murloc Knight and summons a dude. He gets Murloc War Leader. Swings face with his 4/5. *Have to keep this under control ASAP...*
Hero: T8 - At this point I've taken a 13 damage to the face, and he has taken zero. I can still trade favorably on this board and I'm beyond lethal range. I decide the Murloc Knight was the most threatening card on the board, I throw my 5/6 Pit Fighter into the 5/5 Murloc. Play Silver Hand Regent, hero power his 1/1 dude that summons my own 1/1 dude. Also play a 4/3 Saboteur. Board looks like this now:
His 4/5 Yeti, 3/3 War Leader versus my 4/3 Saboteur, 3/3 Regent, 1/1 dude, 5/1 Pit fighter.
Villain: T8 - He plays Guardian of Kings healing for zero, and trades his 4/5 Yeti into my 3/3 Regent, and his 3/3 Murloc into my 4/3 Saboteur. *Now to choke the life out of him.....*
A ridiculous game, very satisfying to win this one considering how badly dominated I was in the 1st half of the game. Paladin does Paladin things right?
Anyways, key moment was the Equality. Leaving the 6/7 Orge and focusing on board spread and face damage would have been a better play. His minions were outside of Flamestrike damage if that was what he was afraid of.
Thanks for reading if you've made it this far. Hope it was entertaining at least.
Was a good start to the first half of the month, but ran into some really rough times in the 2nd half. My Paladin game is suffering and I am not sure how to fix it. I might just avoid this class given the option since I was forcing Paladin drafts so I could tweak my game a bit to no avail. Paladin has been the class where I've ran into the most 3 or less win runs out of the top 3. It's a bit concerning actually.
Anyway, my Rogue game has improved every month as well as my other experiences with other lesser played classes (minus Mage after a bad stretch) , so this month moving forward in an effort to increase my win rate, I'm going to stick to my strongest class, always.
Monthly take away: Don't rush your decisions, I've noticed my runs are much smoother if I take a couple more seconds per turn.
#8) Took the 1st Druid of the Claw over Druid of the Fang even though the HA ratings were through the roof for Fang. I value the versatility of DOC over DOF in this scenario.
#19) Prefer more standalone value instead of synergy. Would have been fine with either Yeti or Wildwalker here I think.
#30) I think think this is one of those tricky decks that really gives a deck the extra punch it needs to steal some games and taking the Bite over the Shade here is a good example of this. Bite was very handy at removing minions and was clutch in some games at gaining the board.
Haven't had a 12 win in a while, nice confidence boost with this one. Deck didn't seem overpowered but was very solid overall.
MVPs-Savage Roar took down a couple games, Arch-Thief Rafaam sealed a couple when he dropped down, Raven Idol fished some helpful cards, Bite was clutch as the decks only removal spell.
Standard scumbag Mage with 3 board removals. Very lucky to draft those cards, but rest of deck was a bit light so some of these games definitely was running out of steam.
Only game I lost was against another Mage who got insane value from a Grim Patron that I couldn't deal with for 5+ turns. Also helped that I didn't run into any Rogues *surprisingly* along the way!
MVPs- Obviously have to be Mage board clear spells and reach spells, Rest of deck was very generic.
__________
New fresh draft up if anyone wants to play along. It's a Shaman one of my lesser played classes, was up against Warrior/Warlock. Thought i'd pick it since I haven't played in a while. Enjoy.
Comments: Haven't played Shaman very often, but I do play it once in a while in Arena averaging over 5 wins for a smaller sample size of course. Some sadness over taking a Huge Toad over my 3rd Fire Elemental. Lacks board clear, but I do have a Jeweled Scarab for some YOLO plays, and I have a couple win conditions for surprise wins. Hope it does well. Any advice for this? Prediction: 7-3 / Actual:
You've got enough early drops and removal, I wouldn't pass over the third fire elemental.
Really think so ? Most of my 2-drops are weak (jeweled scarab, Annoy-o-tron) or have situational value (Lance Carrier). I have Mechwwarper and Flame Juggler as "good" standalone 2-drops. Deck lacks removal as well, so a bad mulligan would be curtains. At least that is what I am saying to myself for passing on the Fire Elemental T_T
Dont know that I would have skipped that first trogg for archer, but your deck is pretty light on overload so in hindsight looks good.
Just draw that stormforge axe early and wreck face.
Not gonna lie, but I was pretty happy to be able to take Mana Wraith (2-drop) as my final pick over two worse cards since I still thought my early game was hurting.
Lol, went to youtube after responding to your post and the first thing I see is Kripp talking about Jeweled Scarab. Explained it well in the first 2 minutes.... Shaman = good 3-drops.
Lol, went to youtube after responding to your post and the first thing I see is Kripp talking about Jeweled Scarab. Explained it well in the first 2 minutes.... Shaman = good 3-drops.
Never thought about that....
Yes exactly ! Hex and Lightning storm are the notable GG pulls from the scarab. Also, that early in the draft, I'm happy to take the Scarab, hoping to fill out later on.
Unfortunately that Shaman deck only made it to 5-3
Actually started the run 5-0 and lost 3 straight to some sickness like double eviscerate. But also poor play on my part too.
___
After blowing the Shaman 5-0 head start I drafted a very fast Rogue deck that made it up to 8-3. A lot of tempo cards but ran out of steam early. A couple appearances from Ragnaros the Firelord was nice and did seal some games.
Only to finish 12-2.Lost my 12-0 match to a top deck Tirion Fordring. Sigh. Faced the same guy going for 12 wins twice, beat him for the finish though.
This Rogue was a bit slower then the previous one but had heavier minions which helped a lot without giving up too much tempo oriented cards.
MVP:Perdition's Blade was surpisingly/ not surprisingly awesome. Great card and tempo.
___
So far 10 runs this month and running hot with 3x 12 win runs (Mage, Rogue, Druid) and a overall win rate of 8!
Ended up going 8-0 with the Warlock Zoo deck before losing 3 straight. So 8-3
The Dark Peddler did some serious work and honestly I steamrolled the first 8 games. But lost pretty decisively to a Zombie Chow + Muster for Battle Opener, and amazingly drew poorly against a Priest who never let me get the board back after turn 3.
Had serious potential to go 12 wins but needed the right match ups, the card advantage was awesome with the Peddlers and Hero power, but lacked some removal in the situations and my overall minion quality in the early game was not strong enough. Since I couldn't remove minions with spells I had to use my stronger late game minions to get value.Sunwalker and Dread Infernal were great, surprised i never used the Kraken in any games.
