This has to be the worst promotion I've seen from Blizzard in awhile, the power imbalance between Ragnaros and Nefarian is laughably in Nefarian's favour ( I am undefeated with Nefarian) and after your first win there is no motivation for continuing to play based on your total number of wins for the week at all. And while I like the idea of promoting assymetrical constructed decks as a way of increasing the skill cap of the players over Arena, i.e. no RNG in drafting a deck resulting in bad Arena runs, and attracting new players to play the game without having to worry about having the card collection to play constructed or the gold to Arena continuously the fact that they took the time to implement this shit over a tournament mode as a competitive constructed alternative to ladder really fucking pisses me off.
So, I guess thank you Blizzard for the free weekly pack, I hope the 9 year olds enjoy your marketing gimmic.
That's the whole point. There's not supposed to BE any sort of motivation. It's not an alternative to ladder. It's not meant to be competitive. It's just people coming together and having fun in an environment with no rewards whatsoever. It's actually good that hardcore Spikes like you disapprove of the system and stay out of a place that was specifically designed to appeal to everyone else.
Besides, it's free. How is that a marketing gimmick?
I think it was lazy on Blizzard's part and they were under a time crunch. Ether it's a very easy win or a very bad loss. Ether way not much fun. Not worth playing until the next brawl. Seems like they geared this to new players to sell them on the idea to buy Blackrock. I was hoping that we would make our own deck and there would be a brawl tab that we could tech those cards in. I was also hoping that there would be a fun game effect like all creatures get Sylvanas ability. Think how crazy and interesting that would be. Now that's a brawl!
I just played as Ragnaros, Nefarian had no chance. He had full hand of cards, I guess none of them was useful. While I had always board full of minions. I felt bad for my oponent.
Ya I'm sure you can win with luck I just lose cause even with a full board of whelps he still always hit my face for 8 damage.
After my first 5 or 6 games, I felt that Nefarian was way too good. After playing 15-20 games, I finally figured out Rag very well, and my win rate with Rag actually surpassed my win rate with Nef. I really liked the Brawl. It was a nice change up. And I like the fact that it will change each week. If you feel like Nef is too overpowered, then you're not playing Rag right. Like I said, I thought the same, until I figured it out. By the end, I was actually better with Rag.
Rating 6/10. I don't want to give too high of a rating, but I feel like there's definitely potential for an exciting new thing in Hearthstone.

There are 3 kinds of people in the world. Those that can count and those that can't.
As much as I would like to defend Blizzard for this, I simply can't. This brawl is simply underwhelming. For a first impression, they really did not hit it. But honestly, I think they had no choice. A custom deck would be too much for a launch event for the players who did not even know Tavern Brawl is coming, so they had to stick to a premade one. Hopefully, after a few weeks, we get an awesome brawl so we can just forget about this.
And it's not like I don't understand the strategy behind Ragnaros. I do understand it, but the problem is, that to pull off that strategy you need the absolutely PERFECT draw, otherwise you're trying to catch up, but never get the chance to.
Sorry to dissapoint you, but nope, you're just bad. Rag is harder to play, that's about it. You don't even necessarily need to draw into your powerful 2s and 3s to win in most cases.
Although there's this difference: as Nefarian, you can get a crazy starting hand which will just win you the game. As Rag - there's close to none auto-win starting hands.
What does that remind me of? Oh, right. Face hunter/Tempo mage/Old zoo vs. any kind of a midrange/control deck. As a golden Shaman - winning as Rag is way easier then winning as a midrange Shaman vs a face Hunter.
I believe 90% of Rag QQers are the FOTM aggro players. I guess you folks just should stay out of Tavern Brawl if you don't like to be on an aggro deck's recieving end.
Personally I find Rag fun to play. It's more of a challenge, and that's what Hearthstone is all about - whether you are capable of solving the puzzle or not. And yeah, sometimes it's that RNG that gets you.
I love it! A nice casual way to introduce people to the idea, great decks to play around with, and the fight is really balanced. My only gripe is not knowing if there is any reward for playing and winning many games, but they're fun enough that I don't care :D
I think for the launch they want everyone to play a few times and win. Giving Nef a slight edge all but ensures that. IT was also great fun to crush some smarmy emoting opponent with that 20/20 dude when they though the game was in the bag. The future looks very enticing indeed, great job Blizz.

Free to try and find a game, dealing cards for sorrow, cards for pain.
Colossal flop on the Hearthstone team introducing Tavern Brawl. The only FUN part about it is that its all new heros, cards, and hero powers... and what is my incentive for playing multiple games? I might challenge some friends, especially the Rag whiners... but after I got my pack, (classic by the way which was one of the only other things i did like) its kinda like, okay... back to arena and ladder to actually make gold and buy more arenas and packs...
and now we wait for the next installment.. which needs to NOT be premade... give us the chance to create new decks on the spot so skill is a factor...
What were they thinking? Maybe introducing Brawl to all new players in a pretty casual way? The mayority of the players probably don't even knew that Brawl was comming, so pre-made decks was the way to go, 100%. You have years on you to play Brawl, no need to ask for too much this early.
I agree with this.
I think one challenge going forward is that if you are playing isolated games there is no way to separate players with good decks and players with bad decks, and inexperienced players aren't going to like just getting rolled every game. Even with arena, you lose game one and get some easier competition. Maybe the reason that you need to be rank 20 is that they will use rankings to seed people (unless people game the system with that as well)? I hope there are some deckbuilding decisions in the future, but I don't have a problem with blizz dipping a toe in and seeing how the community reacts.
Also, none of these things will be balanced. They spend months playtesting the real game and still make huge mistakes like Undertaker. You can't really expect a weekly side attraction to have the level of balance you expect in constructed.

Well when you launch something new and interesting it better be good, otherwise it gives bad first impression. I have already seen people saying that the whole brawl mode is horrible even to it changes in a week. Right now tho the first impression is pretty bad and that's not how you get people interested. But I agree on the pre-made decks part, it does help "casual" players understand the concept better, but in that case they should have provably thought of something that would have made it slightly more interesting for "hardcore" players too.
That's true, but you can't make aveyone happy :P The players who hate on it now(Aka hardcore) will soon get over it when they see what crazy stuff that will come :)
The problem is is that they made almost nobody happy with this. Not only was week 1 a mess. But everyone would have preferred actual new content over goof around mode. Nobody wanted this, nobody asked for this, and when they made it, they flubbed up big time.

I haven't played it yet and it sounds boring. They should've just let it be any random boss from Blackrock Mountain vs. another random boss from Blackrock Mountain
Actually really came in handy. Got the play 20 5+ mana minions daily. 2 matches in Brawl solved that. (Played 3 matches in total, won as Nefarian and Ragnaros, and lost another Ragnaros match, only because he got SPRINT AND BLOODLUST from his hero power and won the round before I had lethal)
The fact that Blizzard is bringing a new play mode to the game is significant. the first release of the tavern brawl certainly has that soloadventure vibe to it -- and I'm okay with that. The entire game mode opens up a lot of possibilities: decks with copies of cards which exceeds to two-card limit (the Mage's Unstable Portal deck in BRM is one of my favorites).
After playing 15-20 games, I finally figured out Rag very well [...]
I think that this is an important observation. The format is new, the decks are new, the tactics and strategies are new, and combined this all takes a little time to absorb and figure out.
Overall: I applaud the addition, and welcome it. 9/10.

HS is a game that is designed for casuals- let that sink in

Idk, I thought it was fun. Excited to see what they do next week.

9.5/10 great first week
You can find me here! Good luck everyone!
I like the brawl. It's something different from the ladder grind and it's fun in its own way.
Played both rag and nef and found them both to be really different playstyles. It's good fun

I enjoyed it well enough, though I stopped after 10 wins, as I'd seen every card & encountered most permutations*.
*Though I've yet to see Nef draw Unstable Portal, generating Blingtron 3000, and giving Rag a Doomhammer
Nef definitely has the advantage, though once you learn the decks & playstyle, the difference isn't enormous.
Early game Magma Ragers can be huge if Nef doesn't hero power into any removal spells in the first few turns.
