I'd love too see official stats on the number of players playing this week vs the average tavern brawl, too bad that's never gonna happen.
Well obviously there'll be significantly fewer people. Not many people have gold to spare. That doesn't mean the brawl os a failure. In fact, quite the opposite. This Brawl is clearly meant to cater to more experienced players who want a higher stakes experience and good ridance! As Reynad said, almost everything gameplay related that's been added since release has catered to casual players which make up the majority of the player base. I think its great that they're finally throwing higher level players a bone for once and people who are complaining about this brawl being unfair or too expensive are just being childish.
The problem is that they take a hugely popular mode to run it. If they added a tournament mode alongside the regular tavern brawl this week most of the negativity would disappear.
WAah, you don't get to play Brawl for one week. Compare that to the higher level players who have been waiting for something like this for literally years. It's not a big deal.
Yeah I'm sure those 10-15 pro streamers who've been waiting for this totally made up for the thousands of thousands who enjoy Tavern Brawl and the free pack and got shat on this week.
It blows my mind to no end that you can't hear how childish you sound right now.
Everyone who plays the game is inportant. You can't JUST cater to your biggest demographic.
Now THIS is childish. It's like you have no idea how the real world and businesses alike work.
So you're complaining that Blizzard isn't just made up of cheap money-grubbing assholes. Get your priorities straight. People get to feel so priveliged when they're in the majority.
Going Strawman on me isn't gonna make you look any smarter. And also Blizzard IS mostly made up of cheap money-grubbing assholes, otherwise they would have lowered the entry fee of this and implemented it alongside the normal brawl, together with not staking the odds against the players like they did (absurdly high win % required to break even).

It specifically says when you open up brawl that its meant for skilled players with big collections. If anything, the high fee just assures that people who shouldn't play the brawl don't end up playing it and losing everything since most casual players spend all their gold immediately.
But sure, God forbid Blizzard ever try anything new or to please anyone other than you. That would mark the end of life itself. After all you are the most important person in the universe.

Why should they be catering to any demographic here? My argument is that it should be run as a separate thing not replacing Brawl for no real reason.

And I'm saying that crying because they didn't is silly.
This week's Tavern Brawl is: Blizzard Being Greedy Bastards!
Blizzard is a "for-profit" company. Blizzard is not greedy...they are doing what companies are designed to do...make a profit.
Aaah, the usual ignorant bullshit that always shows up every now and then. Yes companies exist for profit. No that doesn't excuse them being greedy assholes trying to milk their customers. You can exist for profit AND not treat your customers like cows to squeeze and scam. Are they being "greedy assholes" here? Definitely. The odds for this Tavern Brawl are overwhelmingly staked in favour of the house, no free pack this week, absurdly overcosted fee to enter, and the packs awarded are from the least relevant expansion by today's hearthstone. Could this have been done better while still being "for profit"? Yes. They are greedy assyholes.
When you said, "Yes companies exist for profit. No that doesn't excuse them being greedy assholes trying to milk their customers. You can exist for profit AND not treat your customers like cows to squeeze and scam."
I agree with that, although, I don't think that Blizzard is being a greedy @hole (for the most part neither are any other companies) and here's why. The greed comes into play when decision-making executives are incentivized with a giant bonuses to hit certain numbers...then that's when any human will be tempted to cross a line and make decisions that screw the customer or the employees for the sake of earning their own giant bonus. You'd likely do it too. Although, I don't think that's the case with this Heroic TB.
Nearly everyone would be motivated by a giant bonus (a handful might not) and as long as people are governed by greed...people in decision-making roles will make decisions that benefit themselves over staff or customers first, but in this case...Blizzard is merely capitalizing on the bone-heads who like to gamble on big rewards...they're taking a lesson from Vegas...that city was built on the money from bone-heads who like big rewards.
So in this case...no one is likely to be taking home a giant bonus...they're just copying the success of Vegas...so the Heroic Tavern Brawl is pure genius except for the fact that it is only temporary, but I'm sure it will return after they see the response.

And you crying about people making a valid point publicly is silly. The only way to push for this not to happen in the future is to make your opinion clear in a public manner. Sitting there quietly is pointless.
I like them adding such an option, although I wish the prize level was comparable to Arena (where three wins is basically break even), Heroic is a great addition. But I will till make my point clearly and publicly that's there is absolutely no reason for this to replace Brawl and that just pisses a lot of people of faith unnecessarily.
Why the fuck did this take the place of the brawl? I just want my free pack! Why not make this an entire new gamemode? I'm completely fine with giving the more veteran players their own gamemode. But why take the beginner's gamemode away because of it?
This would be best brawl if everyone got a free play
I really don't think Blizzard would do that. Too give 1000 gold (so to speak) to each payer is something which fans would love but most wouldn't play that brawl again (which makes sense since it costs 1000 gold each time you enter).
However I really would have liked to seen a alternative brawl for those who didn't wish to play in that brawl. I mean they have made a lot of tavern brawls, they could have easily re-use one of those for players who want a free card pack.

My Entry for this week's Card Design Competition - Season 8.16:
This was definitely a blast, hope Blizz decides to implement something like this as a regular tournament-style mode.

Look, I want to tell you something because you're very dear to me. And I hope you understand that it comes from the bottom of my damaged, damaged heart. You are the finest piece of ass I've ever had and I don't care who knows it. I am so glad that I got to roam those hillsides.
The last few Tavern Brawls have been pretty lackluster. This week, it's an outright failure. I'd bet money that no more than 15% of the population played it.
I watched some streamers doing the brawl, it's shamans, warriors and a few lost druids. It's basically ladder with an insane luck needed to get your money back. I guess Pavel should participate, but us regular guys shouldn't, really. Even a good player can't guarantee anything, Amaz, Savjz and Forsen got abysmal results, Firebat capped at 9 wins. Keep your money/gold for the expansion guys.

Stop believing the lie that our culture pushes on mushie minds that profit is evil. Without profit...companies will end up like Circuit City, Comp USA, or Blockbuster...on a list of has-beens. If Blockbuster was still in business...that would be 60,000 people who had a job with them still getting a paycheck. You like pay checks?
But I would hope they made reward a bit more sensible...I mean, even arena gives a pack back if you don't win once for 150 gold. This is just too risky.

It's not that hard: control wins aggro and loses to midrange. Combo should never be included in this equation.
I'm a banana. Bananas don't speak English. Please, do correct any grammar mistakes I make, even the most minor and insignificant ones.

I made a Monte Carlo simulation. I simulated 100.000 games with players of equal strength (50% winning chance each game).
Result: Each player has to pay 1.000 gold to win on average 4.38 packs (= 438 gold), 107 dust, 107 gold and 0.04 legendary (= 119 dust).
Wait what?! Pay 1.000 gold to win 545 gold and 226 dust on average?!
Another nice-to-know: Only people that make 7 or more wins will win more than they paid. But that's only 9.2% of all players...
So... Nice try Blizzard, but I will save my gold for something else :-)
So, any world first 12-0 or 12- whatever?
Twaryna just did 12-0 on stream with zoolock!
One more way for blizzard to have a jab at your wallet. Thought it was gonna be like a free arena, guess I did not understand.
As with gambling, not worth it.

Do you get your classic pack for your first completion like regular TB?
Guys, I figured it out! This is the 75th Tavern Brawl, AKA: The Quarter Quell. Makes sense why they made it the heroic tavern brawl!!
Half Life 3 Confirmed :D
