I have the gold to do it once but I want to see what the rules of the brawl are first. I have most every card I want right now so more of those cards isn't exactly enticing to me. I'd be more excited about it if they do one soon after the next expansion.

Hmm I can definitely see that happening... I could also see that the expansion would definitely be weighted to create some new decks... kind of a catch 20... do I buy new cards so I can win the new tavern brawl mode to get the new cards I just bought...Though I suppose if you're going for a specific new deck you could craft some cards.
I want to know the exact rewards. If it is like in Arena where you need 6-7 wins to earn back the entry fee, then there's no way I'm participating. You'd need a better winrate than the top legend players to earn a profit if that's the case.
There's also a bit of a downwards spiral in a system like this. To do well you need to be an above average player (and have an above average decks), this means that worse players with worse decks will soon quit playing, which increases the average player skill, and repeat. I can see this turning into a legend-player only game mode after not very long, unlike in Arena where anyone can be motivated to participate just to learn to draft/play better, and always stand a chance if they get some good luck.
The appeal of making a lot of packs or legendaries very quickly is alluring, although technically Arena is still more profit per gold spent unless you can "go infinite" in this too.
I'm not sure if I'll try it out. I think it's an interesting idea, and I'm glad they are trying it out as a tester version of a tournament mode since having a proper tournament mode would be very interesting (but requires way more resources to fully implement). But the high entry fee and variance between 0-3 and 12-0 in terms of rewards is just too much for me to feel comfortable taking the risk. Yes, the range in rewards and weighting towards doing better is like a tournament, but losing out on brackets, multiple decks, deck bans, etc. just means that as a player you have much less control over the outcome and chance/luck is just going to influence it too much. Maybe if it has some interesting rules/bans/restrictions or if it was like a sealed format or if they give more information on rewards so the break-even point is known then maybe I'd be more interested, but it basically seems like a more gamble-y standard mode in this current iteration.
I'll likely pass on it this time, maybe try it if it comes again in a few months, but I think I'd rather just wait until there's a proper tournament mode instead of this high-variance alternative.
If you have most of the cards from Old Gods the break-even seems to be between 4 and 5 wins due to dusting most packs anyways. Given the amount of packs, gold and dust you get and saying 40 dust equals 1 pack, 4 wins should be just below break even with 5 giving you marginal upside.
Definitely not if it comes before a meta change -- in other words, before the next expansion is released. If I want to play Midrange Shaman after Midrange Shaman after Midrange Shaman, I can queue up in ladder, thank you very much, and I don't even need to fork 1000 gold or 10 bucks.
On the other hand, this brawl coming just after the release of the next expansion would probably be great, and I might very well try it.
Edit: so Ben Brode has confirmed that Midrange Shaman Fiesta will happen before BlizzCon. Okay, thanks, but no thanks. And my fingers are apparently too light, it's 1000 gold, not 100.
I'd play a tournament mode with SPECIFIC rules such as using only basic and common cards in which us "normal" (dont own all cards/have 98654223688 spare gold lying around like all streamers) would have a fighting chance.
1000 gold for a few wotog's packs isnt worth it to be matched against pros.
If I want to play against mid-range shaman after mid-range shaman, I'll go back to playing Standard. Shamans and Warlock zoo are the reasons why I've switched to Wild, and I sure as hell am not paying real life cash to play against those cancer decks.
In arena, you pay 150 and it's guaranteed pack. So, if you 0-3, your effectiveness with gold is 66%.
In competitive tavern brawl if you 0-3, your effectiveness is 10%.
Like really, blizzard, why? It should be AT LEAST ~50% at 0-3 to ~90% at 3-3, ~95% at 4-3, ~105% at 5-3. This way more people would consider playing and more gold will be spent, while overall it would be ineffective waste of gold in total. That kind of greed hurt themselfs, they could get much more profits in $$$ (even if players spend gold here, they would spend money on packs later).

No.
I will probably get rekt 0-3 and die from saltiness, so going to pass on that one. 1k gold is just too much when new expansion in a couple of months.

Yes, with real money only after I see the rewards per win to determine can I realistically get my hands on at least 1 golden legendary.
If they fix their servers so that I don't get disconnected every time I want to play let's give it a try, if not I'll pass on this one

tones of fun and salty moments there, i'm in. what deck though?
Not sure yet. Depends on where the break-even point is. It's a hell of an investment to go 0:3 and only get a single pack for $10/1000 gold.

this shit is ridicilous. just blizzard being a fucking moneywhore
I like the idea, i'd take part in... but the rewards are waaay too small.
You have a chance 0,002% to win 3 golden legs.
Most likely you will not even cover the entry fee! It is unacceptable for me.

TLDR: I would pay/play it if minimum reward is 10 packs, otherwise it is just a overpriced shop trip.

I'm not going to play in it but you better believe that I'll be watching the heck out of it on Twitch. This is awesome!

The rewards are horrible for less than 9 wins. NO THANKS
