I’m not trashing the game despite the name of the thread. It’s a good game but after almost ten years of playing, I just cannot get into anymore. It the same 6-7 net decks starting in the lowest tier of play as soon as the expansion drops. Every single expansion just feels the same and it doesn’t feel like the game hasn’t really evolved in any meaningful way in the last 3-4 years.
again I think a great card game and I’ve been paying and playing since the preorder bundles started. Which I don’t mind, but it just feels a stale. I’ve tried duels which is kinda fun and I pop on battlegrounds occasionally. I just think the standard format needs some love.
Anyone have recommendations on an alternative for a while?
Depends on what you like, I've been grinding Pizza tower lately while waiting for the expac. But it's a plateformer, and plateformers aren't everyone's cup of tea?
You do have to take into consideration , not everyone gets a TON of cards from a new expansion on release . Previous expansion i had maybe 12 packs to open , so you can guess i went and used the same deck i did before that expansion. This time i had 94 packs to open , but im at lost on what to try out so i might go netdeck one to get me started ...
Having friends to play games is also fun , you can make up your own rules
As for recommendations ... i do play yugioh duel links on mobile .. it has a useful pve aspect and pvp alongside events and quests all year round .. but like any card game theres also a META being followed that you'll often see the same 6-7 meta decks ..
MTG arena , also a fun game , but same issue as above .
But you should definitively try a new card game , you'll at least have the freshness until you start to notice the metadecks , which could take a few days or few hours depending on the game !
Having friends to play games is also fun , you can make up your own rules
Exactly this. Playing with friends is amazing. You can't really play by your own rules (I wish they would allow that with at least some basic stuff) but you can indeed like talk about what you would like to play or try and hopefully somehow match the power level and whatnot so it does actually feel interesting and that you both have an about equal chance. By my own experience I can tell it is very much worth it. Like so much better than "normal" play. And on top of that if you didn't know, you can share decks in friendly games. Want to try out some cool deck idea? Maybe a friend could help as they have some variation or could make it quickly. One way or another friendly games are, at least to me, the most fun I've ever had playing this game. It might be hard at first to find good friends that like the same stuff as you (because of a lack of good social features still after like 10 years) but I can say that all of the effort I put in was so much worth it for me. Nowadays I only play "normally" if none of my friends are online and/or I'm trying to make new friends... Because that's how I do it. You might be wondering on how to do it. I personally just send a friend request at the start of each game. I think that's the best since at the start everything is still undecided and neutral. Unfortunately, for some reason, that option is grayed out by default. But there's a relatively easy workaround: Click on "Report" and it shows you the full battletag with the number. And that you can then enter when adding a friend via the normal "Add a friend" button. Sometimes it will take a long time until even someone accepts but I have made like at least half a dozen or so new friends since I started doing it a few months or so ago. And it's always the most fun when I get to play with one of them. I can really recommend it.

I put the game on auto mercs mode for the first two weeks. I don’t even play and I’m done with the first 100 levels of the rt in about 3 weeks. Aside from clearing the daily and weekly quests in ranked I don’t bother because at this point I just collect everything . I hit d5 for the free dust to add to the quarter million dust pile I have no use for just by clearing out the quests. Cultist simulator is really good . Reading books is great too.. once the meta is established I just play the best deck that clears the quests the fastest. Twist mode was an exception because I played til I hit legend with DH which took a whopping 4 hours over two weeks with almost 70% win rate. Twist was actually decent because you have your best class decks and that’s all you face . You learn to play your deck against the matchup and it’s very consistent with not much to remember and the games go fast. Standard is a long drawn out bore with games taking far too long for my taste with way too many people who just rope in hopes of boring you to push the concede button.
Discover the area you are living in. It's quite surprising how many interesting things you can see and do in the area near you. Get any healthy new hobby like exercising, or work instead and earn a bit of extra cash. Learn something about a topic you never even thought about (the Internet is full of suggestions). DIY and cooking are good ones, for instance, because you will need that stuff for most of your life.
If you have the money and interest to educate yourself about it, check out cryptocurrency games. They are not the best games right now, but there is a good basis. Other alternative games were already mentioned.
It’d be nice to see one of these threads actually mentioning what alternative online card game, or card game in general (one could go even further, competitive game of any sort) that doesn’t end up adhering to a meta where most players are adopting the most effective strategies to secure wins. I’m not familiar with any and I’ve played a lot. It’s only natural for people to gravitate toward what is tried and proven to succeed as often as possible. I myself don’t netdeck and play whatever I feel like. Yes, a lot of games tend to feel like David vs. Goliath. And of course, it’s not exactly great to run into the same deck that swept the floor with you more than 3 times in a row. But when you do crack the code and outplay an opponent with a tier 1 list, that is the fun in it. If that’s unsatisfactory to you look into other forms of entertainment.

Complaining about net decking when it comes to card games will get you no where (again, when it comes to cars games). There’s not a single card game in existence where this will not be the case.
The reason being, of course, is that for each class in hearthstone, there will always be a “perfect 30.” Now, there may be some adjustments along the way, a card or two, to account for the meta for the day, but generally there is a best 30.
That’s fine and I accept that, but it makes the game feel stale really fast. I’m not blaming any person but after playing 30 games this season, which I know isn’t a huge number by any means, I just saw the same couple decks over and over. Again it’s fine it just feels like every other season. again I do think this is a good game, I just don’t think I want to invest time or money into this game right now.
HS and games like MtGA also have the problem that the community is really big and everything is tracked. Like it's really easy to netdeck things and metas are relatively quickly solved. Pre-release events are also contributing to this. Another thing in HS is that maximizing rewards is very important for budget and f2p players, so it's just natural to not invest your rare dust into bad cards. Fun might be a different story. It's more fun if you don't take it too seriously. I don't care if I reach legend rank, for instance
So DJgrapejuice likes the cardgame how it is, but feels bored cause its the same game right. So he wants the developers to include different games and modes in it so all he has to do is keep paying blizzard whatever they charge and he doesnt have to think about what he wants or where he can find satisfaction. Just let them tell him what to do and he can stay with them. I guess business works just well on GenZ here and other post, if only gaming could be more meaningful like by wining games you support the troups in ucraine or the $$ you spend would go to starving children or hey how about safe the planet.

I recently quit Hearthstone as well after playing since beta and missing only one seasonal card back and dived into the world of horde survivor / bullet hell / roguelite.
I haven't had this much fun playing video games in many many years.
Also most games in the genre are between 4 and 20 dollars/euros and it feels amazing, in the last week I've bougth 6 different full games with DLCs and they all collectively cost less than a normal Hearthstone pre order, which is not even close to giving you the full experience of a single new Hearthstone expansion that will only exist in the main game mode for 2 years, and that needs to happen every 3 months if you're a casual player but wish to (barely) keep up with the game.
Full games without microtransaction that will keep you addicted for hundreds of hours. And it's 99% gameplay, no garbage like endless menus, extensive lore, cinematics, good graphics, world building, "mature" story, NPC conversations, everything that sounds so cool at first but actually takes time going through while you wait and do nothing, and keeps you away from actually playing a game.
That also made me quit Diablo 4 because why the hell would I play Diablo for 80 euros when I can do everything that is cool about Diablo in Vampire Survivor for 5 euros, without going through everything that sucks about Diablo. I'm honestly ashamed at this point of how much I financially supported Blizzard games.
Sorry if I'm not supposed to mention other games maybe it's against the rules or something, if so a moderator can take this post down or edit it

It okay to stop enjoying a game, and look for something else. I just figured the community that enjoys a game I did for a long time might have some similar taste and good recommendations. I’m not even trashing the game, but people are on here acting like I kicked their dog..oh well. I appreciate the people being positive.

Diablo 4!
/s
I got about 50 hours out of d4. It’s a perfectly fine game, but I hope it also gets better soon haha

New expansion - same complaining. God.
Det är bättre med en fågel i hand, än tiger i träd!
This deep, productive, and insightful commentary is sure to further the conversation in ways never thought possible.
I believe the conversation went too far over his head to get anything from it.
