Just as context, I started playing this game in 2015 and reached legend a handful of times between 2016 and 2019.
Took a couple years brake and came back this month to check how things are out of curiosity.
The game is a joke now. And I'm talking about standard ladder. It used to be quite challenging to grind between rank 5 to legend. Players really trying hard . Hundreds of games with lots of attrition to gain the stars needed.
Tried it now and there's no comparison. The ladder is filled with BOTS. First I thought: "Hey, these bots might be a thing only on low ranks, right? When I climb a bit, they'll disappear" NOPE. Got diamond 5 in one sit with a suboptimal deck ( probably tier 3-4). Which is the equivalent to rank5 in the old days. So I was ready to face competition. And STILL, I am facing bots at Diamond5-4. This makes climbing to legend completely pointless.
The grind was all about keeping a slight above 50% winrate. But when 1 out of 3 opponents are BOTS, even a dummy can reach 50% winrate. Whats the point? Where is the challenge? Also , bot matches are BORING as hell. The moment I realized I was "cheating" my way to legend against AI , I stopped. Diamond 3. No point to continue. Maybe at high legend you can only face players? Who knows. Maybe. I dont care. What they did with this game? The player count is so low that they need to do this? Or they want to prevent more players from quitting out of frustration?
Anyway, the game feels artificial. Knowing that you are playing against AI leaves a bad taste on my mouth and a feeling that there's no point to even play. Oh, also tried Arena , and surprise surprise, there are bots there. WITH INSANE DECKS that will end your run.
If you are reading this and thinking about coming back to Hearthstone, dont. The game is DEAD
Honestly, in my games trying to reach Diamond 5 every month (EU server) , I almost never fight bots. I see some people talking about the amount of bots they face, but I rarely face one (in standard ranked), and lately (latests 6 months probably) all of my opponents are playing the best decks or best lists possible to climb, making the climb hard.
I dont knowexactly what is going on, maybe EU has a higher population of players and bots are not as much prevalent? I was playing in the American Server and facing a good amount of bots. The majority of my matches were still against players but like I said , even 20% of bots will skew the winrates a lot in favour of the players...
Also I have no idea why the Arena bots are so much harder than the Standard bots? Anyone who has been playing in the last couple years could please explain this phenomenon?
Everyone thinks the game is dead, yet they still put out new content and plenty of people shoot for the epsorts crown. Bots aren't killing the game. They exist in gold a bit and mostly on classic ladder throughout. Not enough reason to make an assumption about the state of the game.
Arena is fun since you realize it needs SKILL and is NOT just a randomfest. Why not play it? Best mode in the game IMO. And I doubt there are any bots on Arena, though I have not played this mode for a while so... I don't know, I just don't believe. It would be strange if there would be any bots. Maybe it's time to check.
Bots depend on your MMR, if you're a returning player that's not surprising. Reach legend this season, then try again next one you should face way less bots.

I would have agreed some years ago but from what I see right now, the skill part is no longer true. I have had an absolutely disgusting shaman draft that went only 7-3 just because I went 2nd and drew terribly. That deck would have gone 12-0 very easily in the past. Stuff like triple Party Animal with a menagerie deck, the 7 cost spell, the colossus, random card generation that creates legendary win cons like 2 of the 3 drop that discovers a legendary minion, Rotgill, etc. Also, it's quite insane how strong some decks are compared to the average draft. My last run was a 1-3 and in my last game, my rogue opponent literally started the game with 4 constructed cards with synergy (concoctions). The entire game ended with them playing 2 cards that are not in the meta right now. 2! It was a ridiculous game. And the dude I beat in that run had 5(!) Swashburglers. What the heck lol

It is literally a RnG fiesta mode, what are u talking about lol Also there is a ton of bots, they even have a community as far as i know, it's like a asian bot mafia lol if you see a strange name kinda like "hwhjkshua" with a absolute INSANE draft you can be certain it is a "bot" the only difference is that it's actually real players but they cheat with the drafts, you have 0 chance against their decks.
The point of legend is to confirm you are better than the average player, even if not by much. The point of legend is to keep up to date with the meta. The point of legend is to get an extra free epic at the start of the new month. It's not much, but it's something. Legend used to be much harder to reach before though, so I can see why it feels less of an achievement nowadays.
Ive been playing since beta and never gotten out of platinum. Saying you did all this with a crappy deck really makes me feel like a worthless player. Thanks for that

better than average player? -> no it just means you spend more time grinding ranks...
up to date with meta? -> no, you can keep up to date with meta by crafting cards, and checking internet, and allow yourself to build the decks.
free epic? -> thats diamond 5
point of legend is just the extra pack, and the cardback.

legend was always ez bots or not
Are you a troll? Legend was pretty hard back in the days and maybe now too (hard to judge because I am too experienced now). I play since 2014, I played a lot and only got to legend in 2017 in Wild on Pirate deck at the END of the month playing roughly 15 hours a day.
I think the game is fun. I like trying out new concepts and cards. I like trying to build a competitive deck with what I have rather than crafting all the fancy legendaries. I like the crazy drawn-out control meta.
Yes, there are bots at the lower levels - it's not the worst thing in the world. The meta is learnable - it's possible to adapt your deck to advance. That makes it interesting.
I haven't faced bots in standard EU, but some of the ropers in wild and classic may have been. I don't think I've faced a blizzard bot which should be meant for low MMR players.
My impression is that legend is still a rather small fraction of all players. Not that there aren't thousands of relatively bad players up there, but I think it still tells at least something about your skill and dedication.
I didn't reach legend in the old system. Seemed like you had to play face hunter for 2h a day or just spend your holiday on it. I think the difficulty really depends on the meta. My first legend took a few hours and felt easy (aggro druid 2020). In standard it felt significantly more challenging but also time consuming.
Legend means that you had some ambitions for your play and enjoy the project of ranking up in a game. If you just want a bit of entertainment every now and then, it's probably not gonna happen :)

Are you sure you're talking about standard? What you've described sounds like the classic ladder from my experience.

Just dont play arena, it's a waste of time.

something to do I guess, its a game meant to waste time unless you are trying to play pro-circuit
you know we can see your post history, right?
