I'm currently climbing the ladder and the amount of Rogue/DK/[Insert deck that relies literally on randomly generating random legendary cards and/or board wiping spells that have their cost reduced to 1 or 0] is stunning.
I think it is an issue that no one seems to care about as long as they aren't the losing end of the match.
I just finished a match where I couldn't even tell if I was facing a rogue on the amount of random class cards they were pumping out. I understand the rogue class has those kinds of cards, but really that should be the only class that can do that. Not every single class now. Maybe I'm being irrational, but what ever happened to this game that people's win condition is literally just generate better OP cards from different classes than your opponent and hope they get some sort of mana reduction as well?
Just frustrating trying to climb the ladder when literally everything is just RNG and has no substance or strategy to it now.

"Hearthstone feels like a big RNG fest" - That's the game. This is not a game for you
Kids' game = rng fest because they need to sell it and kids are incapable of higher strategies. So everything boils down to flashy images and randomness. Indeed, this is the game and has been for a while. Quit spending money on it and try others that actually make brains evolve.
Card generation is a mechanic that keeps thr game from becoming repetitive, so they lean into it often.
Sometimes they overdo it and it starts feeling like a "clown fiesta", but they usually bring it back to a more proper amount with a few card changes when that happens.
The card generation is one of the strengths of the game compared to a table-top card game where you are keeping track of tokens. It allows for things like classic Ysera who gives you one of a random assortment of dream cards, or Dr. Boom with his boombots. The problem really kicked in with the advent of the [Discover!] mechanic, and choosing random cards to introduce. The number of times they've had to tweak the rules related to that keyword is too high, and it's very rare for any card that has the [Discover!] keyword on it to not see play, because of the flexibility it gives.
But by God does it feel bad to play a game with a deck tracker, and when you are about to lose a match and you look and see 3/4 of their cards played have a little gift icon next to it, indicating it didn't even start in their deck. I'm fine with things discovering from things you've already played (like things in the graveyard, or cards in your deck), but just conjuring up win conditions through luck is miserable.
You’re not playing Hearthstone right. Here, let me explain:
1. Discover which synergies can be abused as much as possible, anything that might’ve been overlooked or overshot by the dev team. Exploit as much as possible before it gets patched. Keep an eye on HSReplay for whatever is busted at the moment.
2. When whatever exploit has been patched, move on to the second most exploitative solution until either a new expansion kicks in or it is patched again, then go back to step 1. There’s a very narrow window post-expansion where you’ll see a bit more diversity and original ideas but don’t worry, it won’t last long. Within 24 hours, a new meta has fossilised.
Whatever you do, don’t try anything which isn’t top ranked in HSReplay or non-exploitative of anything currently broken. It would lead to a contestant string of loses. Experimentation is possible in theory, but in practice, it’s seldom worth it. You really ought to make sure you conform to the top decks on HSReplay and face identical, mirror matches. That’s where the fun begins.
That´s exactly why the game is a absolute piece of shit right now, ive been playing since beta never needed to netdeck (still dont need it) and always played with whatever i liked at high levels. Nowadays, i dont have time , patience and dont wanna put effort in this shit show. Powercreep is just too much and not only that they dont know how to balance the game properly anymore, it feels like there is no class identity and to be completely honest both Demon Hunter and Death knight were just a mistake.
I appreciate you trying to help but yeah, i know what im doing dont worry. I would love to keep enjoying hearthstone but it only get worse and worse, Diablo 4 has been pretty fun to me so far tho.
oh before i forget. Arena mode which´has always been a very nice mode its literally unplayable as well, one of the worse experiences ive ever had in a card game.
For me its not about winning, its about use your brain and have fun.
I was being facetious, it’s off-putting but it’s a pretty accurate description of the Hearthstone cycle of (un)life.
Meanwhile, Pure Paladin getting nearer 70% winrate. If it could reach 85% the game could be turned into nothing but Pure Paladin mirror matches and the we’d hit Comedy Central.
You know for sure next official patch by the team will begin with the compulsory: « We’re pretty happy of the current meta but… ». They’re always happy about the current meta, it’s always going just fine but then needs to be repeatedly patched over and over and over and over and over again. But they’re always “pretty happy” with it. They’re optimist, they tend to see the glass a tenth full as opposed to 9/10 empty. It’s positive mange ent and it’s good for morale.
I get it, balancing a card game is probably close to impossible for humans. It’s too complex. I just wish they stopped pretending everything is going exactly as they’d envisioned. “We’re having a hard time balancing the current meta…” would be so much closer to the truth.
It's been like this for a while but I agree - meta is terrible scam crap that feels like almost every game is decided via RNG (I include the mulligan in that). Goes for Wild even more where the game is decided in the first 2-3 turns.
Just gotta accept for what it's become and play if you can make peace with it. I still enjoy it but I won't spend money on it outside of the tavern pass
Just wanted to share with you, thats what i got legend today did a couple refining to get to that list, nothing too fancy... shits on paladins real badly. FeelsGoodMan

Discover ruined the game.
ironically considering the title of this thread, discover removed the rng that made some things just okay.
For example Thoughtsteal VS Identity Theft(in general there are way too many cards that let you look at your opponents hand)
Discovering something is way stronger than rng gifts.
1. Discover which synergies can be abused as much as possible, anything that might’ve been overlooked or overshot by the dev team. Exploit as much as possible before it gets patched.
I honestly don’t think they’re incompetent. I suspect one of two things (or a mix of both, most likely):
a) understaffed: this is the most likely offender. The game is very popular but last I checked the team wasn’t very large and split up in various subgroups. b) competent staff: that might seem like a contradiction but I mean in the sense of average. Some jobs you can do while being “bare minimum average” others, you need exceptional people in charge of the important decision making. Those are rare and far and few between. Like Tim Cain for Fallout for example. Until you find those rare individuals, you have ok people doing a job which require above average aptitudes.
There’s probably interference from management when it comes to sales and profit which most likely has an impact on game design. Also, the game is doing well, sales wise, and in a big corporation, if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it. I’m not expecting any overhaul to the base game anytime soon, there’s no incentive for it profit wise. No point for them in taking that risk. They pretty much have the monopoly on card games as well and that’s never a good thing for the customers.
I moved away from HS several times and tried other card games that had less rng where I could play at highest ranks without spending 10 hours each day or 10k$ and all I can tell OP is this: You'll miss the things you hated long ago. Playing other ladder games where EVERY SINGLE GAME IS EXACTLY THE SAME is boring af.
So, what I am doing now is play different modes in HS and not trying hard to get to the highest rank (because let's face it, you get like 5 packs and a couple cards only anyway). You can get the same stuff by idle farming exp in mercenaries for 3-5 days while working from home or playing something more enjoyable (that is, if you can work form home).
And suddenly, I am camping at gold 5 while farming achievements (because that's honestly more fun, rewarding, and you can also win with unrefined stuff) and enjoying my time. The 3 extra packs are whatever. Why should I care for my rank?
And I heavily disagree on the "discover ruined the game" argument. The game's problem is that every meta is settled even before the new cards are released. This turns the meta into a boring shitshow. And honestly, if I had to choose between the rng rogue that sometimes highrolls me to death and sometimes gets farmed or a dh that OTKs me every time with the same bs on tun X, I would go for the rogue opponent.
More likely only care about profit so printing braindead busted garbage means theres a set of people who will spend a bunch to craft said garbage. There isnt a game dev alive that will say crap like Alastor, Jailer, anubarak are balanced cards.

if anything the game is too consistent right now
I wish I could see a deck other than Paladin. Where's these other classes you speak of?

It´s embarassing the current state of the game.
Game truly sucks atm. I tried going for weekly quests in the past, but these days I don't even care about those anymore
