Hey, I decided to go back to Hearthstone after 3 years break. Used to hit legend about 20 times, always with heavy control decks (or Grim Patrons) that I love. I read about changes in the game so I know more or less what's going on, but I'd like to ask you guys if there is any good Control deck in this meta?
I want to go back to competitive HS so there is another question - how does it look like from competitive point of view? It was always about RNG, I know that, but are there any players that can consistently hit top 10 legend or win tournaments? What is the general opinion about the meta among the top players? Is it better than 2-3 years ago or even worse? I left HS because in my opinion it was unplayable after the Boomsday Project.
Well as you probably noticed, there's a new expansion coming soon, and with it a new Meta. No one can tell you rigth now how that Meta will shape up.
As to the competitive point, players like Gaby hit top of the rankings quite often and hold the top position for ages. Gaby is going to enter the top competitive scene as a Grand Master this upcoming season, so it will be interesting to see how he does with the even more heightened competition. Gaby also was among the top finishers in the last 2 Masters Tour stops, and in the past year another Grand Master has won 2 tournaments in a row.
In short, if you can play, you'll get high finishes consistently, whether that is ladder or tournaments.
Now we are just waiting for the next xpack. Current meta is balanced and all, but boring, because of one dimensional curve decks. Currently not enough cards in the format.

Yeah, Year of the Raven almost killed HS with all that overpowered / underpowered and polarized stuff. Design got much better since then (of course, with occasional blunders). The thing is, HS is somewhat less exciting for a different reason, simply for being an old game. But it still holds up. One of the problems recently has been "created by", there was/is too much of it. On the other hand, on curve decks make games way to similar. They need to hit the right balance with this.

Control deck... probably you mean fatigue decks? There's a Priest deck, very hated because of too much generation. It got nerfed 2 weeks ago. That's the only good fatigue deck. Others are bad. I think they are going to move away from fatigue win conditions to something that actually kill people or end games, not just by boredom after 30 turns. They started printing more and more well-timed finishers for resource focused decks. For example, Warrior has Rattlegore and Silas. Libram had Flingers, haha, and now that 5 attacks weapon. Then N'Zoth stuff, Clowns, Cenarion Ward... We are looking to see what we get from the newest expansion.

Thank you guys for answers. In that case I will just play with whatever is available right now and then I hope that new expansion will bring some tools for Control freaks like me :D

There were also changes to the qualifying structure announced, which mean that quality of play is becoming more important and it;s no longer a long ass grind to get top finishes. See: https://www.hearthpwn.com/news/8385-changes-to-the-masters-tour-and-qualifiers

Don't forget Classic exists too. Control Warrior can definitely out-armour most win conditions.
