I feel like this meta is ok, but the set of buffs and nerfs felt honestly almost awful. I know They are mean't to "set up" for the mini set, but I feel like standard has become really frustrating.
The goods from the nerfs and buffs:
- N'zoth feels a bit better, playing him a turn earlier makes him feel alot more viable! I think playing him is alot of fun and I am glad him is 1 mana cheaper.
- Dark Inquisitor Xanesh feels like a totally different card! Corrupt priest is finally better!
- crab rider is finally not winning games on its own!
HOWEVER, Everything else just feels underwhelming or broken!
- Paladin continues to be crazy
- Mage and Warlock are competing on what is more annoying, random generation or destroying your deck
- Shaman does not exist in standard
- Caravans are still unplayable and dodged all the buffs
Anyone else feels like the mini set is needed now?
The N'zoth buff broke inquisitor DH formally DR dh. It was called out that Inquisitor would be broke after that buff and alas it is.
I think the meta is a hiroll agro meta with some midrange sprinkled in.
I've played since Beta and this imo is almost a new low when I comes to lack of critical thinking and a whole meta of autopilot decks with no real rock paper scissors to counter with.
Control is dead, combo is gutted, priest and mage are rng maricle style now.
It just feels bad to win and loss. Very very unrewarded and often frustrating.
It's a small card pool with the new year rotation, the meta should feel much better than this and be have a larger technical element... I'm disappointed at best.
Honestly, only thing holding me back playing the game is paladin right now other than that i think the game is fine, but it's not easy to fix pala (maybe not even possible).
The feeling i have every time i face it is that doens't matter how good you are, what you put in your deck etc etc it's just an insane arsenal of broken cards being exploited by a bunch of noobs thet have no clue about the game (no offense but it's true).
Honestly I don't think the nerfs/buffs changed anything. I my experience the meta has a good variety in classes. But most classes does more or less the same. Therefore I got to legend and went to wild, where you get more variety in decks and how they are played.
But as you say the buffs and nerfs where to set up the miniset, and for that reason they can be more impactful down the line
I think they should do something. How can Paladin have a lot of different meta decks (aggro, secrets, midrange, libram...) even after 2/3 weeks of nerfs while other classes are invisible or only have 1 meta deck that can barely beat aggro.
The mini set could make the meta different, let's hope so.
Meta seems fairly balanced with no real unbeatable decks. The problem for me is -
a. (As someone who doesn't like to play pure aggro) Losing to non interactive decks with insane card draw, deck destruction or discovering an out to every situation just don't make for satisfying games.
b. Card pool is too small so everything is far too consistent.
If the above 3 win conditions are going to continue then Blizz need to print better tech cards to counter them, especially draw and discover. Shenanigans just isn't going to cut it.
Looking forward to the mini expansion though and hopefully at least getting some answers to the above play styles and hopefully boards becoming more important again.
I'm having a lot of fun with this meta. I'm seeing a large variety of decks (D5-legend), and I'm getting win streaks with weird decks like Deathrattle DH and Clown Taunt Druid (trying to get those achievements done lol). Sure, Paladin is strong, but not at all unbeatable.
Ultimately, people will complain about the meta no matter what the devs do ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Aggro Paladins are now a free win, Secret Paladin is meh, Libram Paladin and No Minion Mage are strong, but mostly fair.
There are several other decks that can be played to rank up, like Rush Warrior, Control Priest, token Druid, probably ramp Druid and of course the rogue and DH decks.
A lot of these were fine even before the patch, but people insist on playing the same decks (that include control Warlock who isn't even that good) making this a boring metagame at a lot of levels of play even though there is such a large variety of decks that are capable of being successful. Hearthstone seems to have reached a critical point of net-decking for reasons that I don't yet comprehend, which leads a lot of players to believe that the metagame is unbalanced - even though it is not.
oh yeah, druid deserves a honored mention despite it not being prevalent, no matter what you play with druid it's either - scam the opponent(token), mulligan simulator(primordial) or tavern brawl experience(Celestial).
DH is 45/48% WR in general what are u talking about? Priest is maybe less than 45% xD And the game has 3 or 4 decks around, maybe cause is the first expansion after rotation but anyway...one of the worst designs ever made. Time to look for another game, from now on the stuff will gone worse.
Wow! I hardly played any mages between D5 and D1. Wish I had - easy wins.
From the latest VS report: "Contrary to popular perception, the Spring Water nerf has proven to be a very impactful change to Spell Mage's performance. Many of its matchups have gotten worse, and the deck no longer exhibits a positive win rate at any rank bracket."
Paladin was probably the class I came up against most often.

Same here. Have seen a nice mix of classes over the last few days. Easy climb today with Secret Rogue.

DH has at least two viable archetypes at the moment: deathrattle and lifesteal.
To be honest with you although Paladin is allegedly still on top I think it’s a net positive if every class has at least one playable archetype except for Shaman. I expect the mini-set to change that and probably trigger a whole new set of balance issues. We may never get to the point where every class is viable but this is the closest the game has been to that sort of equilibrium in a while.

It's a pretty miserable experience.

Opinion is opinion... but really?
Paladin has million decks, but other classes have one or none. Also, most of the decks are aggro and control is dead.

Agreed with everything except with nzoth(the buff i dont think is really relevant) and with this.
Warlock is completely dead(unfortunaly), it was dead before and after the hysteria nerf(non sense nerf) its even worst.
If you lose against it either you play bad, your deck is bad or extremely greedy(bad) or you play priest(you deserve being rekt by tickatus)

It's not spicy enough. Crabrider's nerf is right on spot though.
Must be fun climbing to legend right now... not.
