I've gone from playing Hunter, briefly trying to make a Shaman work, to an extended period of playing Warlock.
Then to a non-toxic Heal "Value" Paladin that seeks to out-heal and out value opponents over the long game ---
Mage is a problem. Crab Rider is a problem. Oh My Yogg is not fair. Condemn is a problem (Savage Roar for Paladin).
But post-nerf after the meta settled in and I found decks I like, have the say this is one of the more fun metas I've seen in a while for me.
And watching Rarran videos, I've played a number of interesting takes on Warlock and Hunter and the Heal Paladin I currently play was just picking fun cards and adjusting the deck after finding what wasn't working.
I thought this was going to be a very bad meta, but despite having some unfairness even after the nerfs (I know some are coming), the meta does have some nice variety and the cards that left from Core Set like Savage Roar, Sap, Frost Nova, Kill Command, Mass Dispel have made the game better in my opinion.
Is anyone else enjoying this meta who was afraid it was going to be bad?
As of the last week, surprisingly yes. I just made the mistake of trying to make Shaman work for the first month and it was miserable.
Really enjoying my mill lock now, though. There are a few bad matchups, but there's not really anything that I just hate playing against at the moment. Nearly every matchup feels like it falls within the 40-60% range. It's really just the high rolls that are tilting (and most are crab rider related).
I honestly don't mind too much, you can play a decent amount of decks. Yes paladin is the strongest by far, it's obvious but the other decks work fine. It felt miserable during the lunacy period, I went and played exclusively classic during those like 2 weeks. But now it feels ok to me. I don't like that priest is on the good spot it is, playing against that class is always a bs fiesta of 'ok let's see if they create enough random shit to actually beat me even if I am favored'.
I feel like Blizzard intended this to be watchpost meta, and they're missing, so on the whole the meta feels like it is missing something. I don't think it's bad overall but paladin is a bit problematic.
2x Snack Run + 1 Library. And of course, Alexstraza. I have Lord Barov and a Libram of Justice to help clear large boards. Plus a CThun for some board clears and destroy a minion.
For someone who likes longer control-like games, I can out-heal almost all aggro. But as a bit more of a control deck, I can play games vs. Priest and sometimes even Warlock.
Warrior end up being a problem because they tend to hit face with so many weapons and have so many rush minions to kill all your stuff.
I have mixed feelings about this meta. High hype and expectation for new core set but the new mechanics watchpost and frenzy was rather lackluster and perhaps non-viable. Post rotation, power between classes greatly impacted after losing the highlander and galakrond archetypes which provides balance to power of classes in general.
As the new mechanics did not make the cut to fill the gap, the meta falls back to basic like agro, face, rush, aim spell on face and discount mana. And playing such meta decks just felt boring, old school and perhaps cheating (Healing and removals cannot compare with minions or spells which is low in mana yet impactful/game winning when played)
Nerf is just not enough. If there is still no new viable archetypes born from barrens, then we will have to spend the remaining months playing in this same meta with no new variation. Hope that the upcoming buffs and mini set will spice things up as promised by Bliz team.
PS: I do wish that highlander will make it to future core set. The archetype is fair to all in general and opens up variation to deck builds and play style.

There was a Watchpost meta in the beginning of the expansion, but it was in every deck, so it was more like "put the watchpost package and 25 other cards and you are fine"
Paladin will be nerfed again, DH / Shaman will get buffed (I hope) so we can have a fresh start until the mini-expansion set
The key to giving no minion mage a major spanking is Kazakus. Play Kazakus on 4. If you roll "2 copies of this minion" with either divine shield or Stealth for your 5-mana golem, the game is over but it will take 2 turns for them to realize it.
The game will also be over if you do 2 10-mana life steal minions and don't get killed by then.
This is assuming you aren't Crabrider stomping them with an Aggro Paladin. I have the cards for Aggo Paladin, but I refuse to play decks that are blatently unfair with stuff like conviction and crab riders wrecking on turn 3.
Kazakus has made facing mages a very pleasant experience for me. Hopefully Tuesday the toxic no-minion Mages and toxic Aggro Paladins will be largely gone.
It's possibly close to being really good. If they can provide an incentive to care about caravans and frenzy cards then I think we got something but right now, it's essentially no different than any other expansion.
Noo, too many annoying things come together, I just can't help but roll my eyes when my opponent chain draws a dozen cards for free or when I have to defend against 3/6 windfury murlocs on turn 3
No. The game has been in the worst state it has been in for MONTHS for me personally. I would love to play, but I just can't deal with this shitshow of a meta and company at the moment. Even with last night nerfs its just a joke.
What meta? 50% unbeatable Paladin and 50% unbeatable Mage? 100% moron proof decks too. Zero thought, skill or any brain power required. Great meta..... IF you are dumb and can only abuse broken decks that is.
It is defensive Paladin deck, it is basically Control Paladin.
Crushes mages basically an auto-win. Strong against all decks. Has a weakness to Warrior and Warlock, but you can beat them too if you employ big brained strategies.
The key to beating Warrior is to prepare for 6,7,8 mana turns when Warrior can flood the board maybe multiple times. Libram of Justice and Pen Flinger and cheap spells gives you a chance to survive that.
The key to beating Warlock is doing a Lady Liadrin around 7 or 8 mana and getting as many of the zero mana spells back, use Pen Flinger and also have weapons equipped to continually go face.
You beat mage by queuing into one.
You have to be careful with Hunters, but if you are and don't draw poorly you should be fine.
Made Legend for first time in a bit over 2 years.
I didn't play standard for over a year and instead played Battlegrounds, but I knew they were going to screw it up and switched to standard after the first nerfs of Barrens.
Very disappointed with the nerfs, but I did find a deck that can take on anything. My final match was against a Warlock and he was rather upset I edged him out and he roped me the last couple of turns.

I mean if you think mage and paladin is unbeatable you really show who is the dumb one

Heal Paladin? Go on...
No, currently it’s pretty stale. But I’m being positive and hopeful that these changes will create some fun diverse decks.

The meta could be worse, but I just wanna puke every time I face a Mage. And I get so tilted when I see an Incanter's Flow on turn 1.

as a pretty much exclusive shaman player I can tell you that I do not enjoy this goddamn meta, what a surprise, still got legend 3 times ofc
No its truly awful, but then all aggro metas suck

I was very disappointed with the nerfs. I thought they would nerf conviction and incanter's flow.
I eventually tried Rarran's number 1 deck for climbing to Legend.

Silver Hand Recruit
No... I main Priest so no, I hate the current meta.
WR against warlock is like 1% for me and there are a lot of warlocks out there.
