I have been trying to find any alternative control option during this expansion that isn’t Warlock as I dont have cards like Tickatus, Tamsin Roame, or Malicia, but it honestly seems like Control warrior or priest are completely hopeless in this meta. I have been staying away from the idea of Warlock as i would need to craft multiple legendaries, but cards like Cascading Disaster and Tamsin just seem amazing and i’m sick of having my board cleared like theres no tomorrow....and getting my deck burned on the same turn. Should i bite the bullet on this class or do you guys think there’s any hope for other control archetypes?
Well, if Control Priest doesn't work for you, I advise against trying Control Warlock, as it's even more difficult to play and even less effective in current meta. You will only waste your dust.
If you really want though, you can try my version of Control Lock. It was designed specifically to beat aggro and tempo decks (Paladin, Hunter, Warrior) and does it pretty well, but it's also lacking late game power (it doesn't run Tickatus nor Y'Shaarj, the Defiler or Cascading Disaster, to be faster and more reliable in early to mid game). That's why it isn't very good against slower decks like... Priest (ironically), but still can close some slower games thanks to Lord J.
I play it and it definitely doesn't FEEL good to play. From the decks I have my control warlock is the least played of them. I wouldn't recommend using dust if you don't have the cards already
Well, Control Priest is one of the most played decks in top legend.... So there's that.
If you are one of these control players that can't stand losing to other control decks, then yes, you should run Warlock
But if your goal is to good good against most of the field, priest seems a better choice. You will just have to accept the instalosses against warlocks....
There are plenty of good control options out there. They can be great decks, but they tend to be bad against the ridiculous endgame of Warlock. On the flip side, Warlock is pretty bad against everything else in the current (very polarized) meta.
So your options are:
Venture outside your control comfort zone.
Play the control deck you enjoy the most, and accept that Warlock is nearly always going to beat you.
Play Warlock and lose against nearly everything that isn't control.

I play control warlock as my main and agree that its not straightforward to pilot but once mastered there's very few decks that can ever beat it in my experience. Only deck I have issues with is Face Hunter.
Tickatus needs nerfing though - maybe nerf down to burn 3 cards instead of 5.
Control priest is very strong, I reached legend with it.
The problem you are facing is on low rank where people play warlock and get stuck at rank 10\5. My suggestion is to use aggro and then switch to control priest or warrior when you rank up cause warlock is not played anymore because skilled people realized that tickatus warlock only wins vs priest and lose vs anything else.
I've only played control warrior since the expansion release & while it's definitely been a bumpy ride so far, it's still a fun deck to play. The Warlock matchup can be frustrating, but they are definitely beatable if you run weapons & rattlegore. You may have to build your deck a bit differently though. I lose to warlocks often, but I have an 80%+ win rate against priest. It's a trade off.
I would recommend you play what you enjoy most, even if that means you lose a bit more. Personally, I'd rather quit the game altogether than to play warlock. Control decks are in a weird spot right now. So if you're looking for the most efficient way to climb, control probably isn't it.
Control Priest is one of the best decks in the meta, I just climbed from diamond 7 to diamond 3 today and I was beating everything. I only lost 2 times, once against a Control Warlock (seriously don't play that) and then a C'thun Shaman. You can beat absolutely everything else and Controi priest is great against Face Hunter, Rush Warrior and Aggro Paladin which is literally like 70% of the meta. The decks that beat Control Priest are Very slow and greedy decks that are not viable cause they get destroyed by every fast deck. If you're interested here's the deck https://hsreplay.net/archetypes/444/heal-priest
Well, warlock is my favourite class since i started in hs 4 years ago and i its the deck i most enjoy in this expansion, but the amount of brainless aggro makes the deck not worth in my opinion, even though i keep playing it and 1 out of 10 games y find a priest and i can have a lot of fun with him
I dont have cards like Tickatus, Tamsin Roame, or Malicia
Well, good news! They just posted that you can now just buy the best control warlock deck for $20. :P
With that out of the way... (thought I'm not an expert on this) I thought the newest version of control priest was doing pretty well these days. Does it still just auto lose to warlock?

The highest winrate control priest deck has a 52.5% winrate and only 3k plays.
They lose to warlock with a 19% winrate against them, and 35-40% against mage, pally, and rogue.
So basically they lose to all the popular decks in the meta rn.
I am missing Illucia but honestly the name "Golden Shower Priest" is cracking me up so i'm going for it. after reading this thread it seems like both priest and warlock have some truly awful matchups but we'll see where this goes

Yes, but Priest also has some good ones (most aggro decks) and Warlock does not, except Priest. Overall, at this point Priest is your only(?) choice if you want viable control deck in standard.

Try this deck, its actually really good and also beats hunter.

I made a homebrew tciktakus 2 weeks ago. Before that I never played tciktakus.
It's a little weird. You miss good cards that cost 4,5,7 mana.
Not worth crafting yet in my opinion. Tciktakus is mad and op but still didn't got the full potential is can ez unlock

Why Warlock ? play no minion mage or secret paladin and you will roll on people.

Don't craft it if you want an easy ride.

Not true at all.

Here's great video which shows Warlock's current meta situation:
Used this deck to get legend from D5. I had %71 winrate tho. You can try it.
I could change the world, but it is not open sourced.
