Really gotta hand it to Blizzard making a class so RNG dependent that no one wants to play against them. My daily quest today was to play 3 games as Mage and it's the fastest I ever finished a quest, as two out of three people conceded before the mulligan phase.
If you don't think lunacy changed anything then at this stage I just assume you're in the gutter ranks.
It very clearly has, I've even cut it out now and I played with it a ton before the rotation. Its just so damn slow, you auto lose against anything pro active unless you get crazy draws to make up the lost tempo. I might still grab it from a discover, if I'm ahead or on later turns and don't have much else to do but to say it hasn't changed is just incorrect.
I don't know why it was nerfed in the first place, it wasn't even that strong to begin with. Paladin had a higher win rate and Paladin even isnt that good. Lunacy/spell mage also loses to aggro. Nerfing it again is so unnecessary
The card was nerfed because it was extremely unfun to play against. Currently it has been dropped by the "good" mage lists, as it's playrate and winrate at 4 mana are very low, but some people still like running it.
Spell mage (without DoL) continues to be a very strong deck, but it depends on the shape of the metagame as it does have counters.
Funny I was running it this morning after getting sick of playing against it. D5+
Won 8/8 against agro opponents, the key is just don't play lunacy. Use your original spells to control the board. Same in mage mirrors, I find more wins just not playing lunacy and burning the opponents face.

I understand it being unfun and why it was nerfed due to this reason that makes more sense.
Spell mage is not that strong though, never was even close.
The card was destroyed, being able to play it on 2 was great, a turn 4 do nothing card is only playable on veeeeery slow match-ups otherwise it's just dead, that's the reason that only some spell mage TOURNAMENT decks still play the card cause they have a bit more control on their match-ups so they can afford to run such a dead card.
Still tons of mages in ladder, together with face hunter.
It actually didn't change a lot, but Facehunter is the direct counter to it. So that's the reason Facehunter was climbing that much these days.

At least it's not APM mage that is way worse

From the nerf I encountered maybe one DoL Mage...
EU 11/2015+ , f2p 03/2021+: DK 63 / DH 205 /Dr 277 / Hu 733 / Ma 6666 / Pa 1072 / Pr 1165 / Ro 1791 / Sh 1303 / Wl 707 / Wr 664
I think I only saw 2 mages on my climb yesterday. Probably encounted more priests! I'll let you decide if that's a good or a bad thing... 😂
