I’ve seen it work other spellburst minions before, it might have been because the coin used a zero cost spell that was inoperable for you (think Raise Dead when you had no dead minions)

unlike Counterspell, a fizzled spell is still a spell played so it should go off
Sometimes Spellburst triggers, other times it doesn't. I'm not sure exactly why this only happens sometimes, but I think there's a connection to the other Oh My Yogg bug, the visual/audio one where the spellcasting animation doesn't stop. IMO Spellburst should trigger, since a spell is cast. Hopefully it will get fixed soon - maybe in the upcoming nerf patch that's due next week.
Maybe the game thinks that Oh My Yogg! is casting the spell instead of the player, and so the Spellburst doesn't trigger? The card does say that "they (as in you) cast another spell instead" but usually when a card causes another spell to be cast, it counts the card as the caster instead of you, thus why Rinling's Rifle doesn't trigger Spellburst either.
But since some people here are saying that it does trigger Spellburst sometimes, I really don't know. Maybe its just inconsistent?

I agree, it 'should' go off but it doesn't seem like it works that way. If Oh My Yogg! tries to cast a spell that normally can't be cast, IE: Deadly Poison when you have no weapon, I think the game treats it as if no spell was cast at all. Maybe it's because the spell never resolves and that's a requirement for spell burst to trigger, I dunno. But, I've noticed the same thing when this literal exact scenario I just described happened and that was the most obvious conclusion I came up with.
As others have mentioned, if Oh My Yogg transforms your spell into something that you couldn't have played due to board state, the spell doesn't actually resolve. That's why you don't see anything happen on the board and need to check the log to know what it even transformed into. Spellburst won't resolve in that circumstance.
As others have said, it has to have been a playable spell. If the conditions of the spell were not able to be met, it wont go off. On the otherhand, if your coin turn into a lightning bloom, it most certainly would trigger spellburst.
There are some strange rules in this game. If your spell gets countered by Counterspell you can still play combo cards, since in the practical way a card was played. Similarly, if you play a battlecry minion, its effect will go off before activating secrets like Explosive Runes or Snipe. I always thought that Oh My Yogg! changing the spell woudn't actually change the fact that a spell was cast by you. Maybe the team should be more consistent about how secrets that counter specific effects work.

It's a bit tricky to make it consistent because of what the secrets actually do.
Combo cards work because you still PLAY a card, even if the card text is "do nothing". Counterspell prevents a spell from being casted, not played. By definition in hearthstone, casting a spell means that you are able to resolve the spell. Playing a spell is simply spending mana on removing that card from your hand.
Battlecries are also different because they trigger regardless of whether the minion survives being summoned to the board or whether it even survives its own battlecry. It is not rare to have a battlecry minion kill itself with its own battlecry. This is the case because by definition, battlecries activate WHEN a battlecry minion is played from hand, but secrets like explosive runes or snipe trigger AFTER a minion is played, so battlecries' "when" triggers before the secrets' "after".
Played gibberling and my coin got taken by oh my yogg. It still casts a spell but the spellburst does not trigger. Is this working as intended?
