From what I can tell, People complain about priest because they claim it’s all luck, but have people seen rogues? They’re entire deck is based off of luck from what lacked they hero power, what they get based on lackies, and then what they draw for 0 from their galak turn. 7 cards for 0 mana....
idk, just curious why the priest haters hate on priest, but turn around and play rogue or feel rogue is fine?
I don't think the priest complaint is RNG. Mage is the undisputed queen of RNG right now.
With Priest, it's just that they are the best control deck right now, and they have the only real way of going infinite with Galakrond and the now great set of minions he generates.
I agree its that they steal your cards and surprisingly always hit your legendary or boardclear with that. Lot of primes can be stolen by them as well. And they are very buffed and have heal so that they survive tempo. I also agree that lackeyRogue is worse, and Box from Mage is just wtf
I think there's not an actual problem with strength, but folks just get tilted by Priest.
Could other control decks force long games? At least in theory. Folks used to rag on Warrior for this. Priest is just the best low-win-condition "grind" class right now, and there are some players who'll always hate grind.
Thoughtsteal isn't nastier than any other "created by" effects, it just has some FeelsBadMan since it's coming out of your deck. Like, there isn't a real difference between this and Galakrond rogue using Lackeys to squeeze water from a stone, but folks get more mad if it's "their own board clear" instead of some totally random discovered one.
Resurrect effects seem to just **** people off, since there's an element of "didn't I just leave this party" to it, but stuff like Eye of the Storm or the pre-nerf Dragon's Pack used to do basically the same thing. I don't know why some folks get more tilted by resurrect effects than other similar stuff, but they do.
Priest has always been notorious for being the class people despise going up against, whether or not they are in top tier meta or not. From the steal mechanics, long term control and value... oh and the resurrection decks-- it makes players have a brief 'vietnam' flashback when they see the priest hero appear on their screen.
Both Rogue and preist generate many random cards that can lead to more randoms cards, and indeed an entire chain - this really pisses people off. Also because we're talknig about rnadom cards from the entire game the high-roll potential is insane - people like RNG when the high-roll potential isn't high enough entirely swing what would have been a close to game to a one sided shit-fest. People like RNG that can be manipulated to prodcue good but not game breaking results, always with the potentail for whiff/downside. Blizzard stil ldoesn't seem to know the difference.
But what really pushes Priest over the top in annoyance levels, somehow even beyond Rogues and their generation of zero cost cards and infinite lackeys(Unbelievable I know, but true) ... It's the rez mechanics.
Hearthstone still has a really poorly implemented graveyard system that can't be easily interfered with...therefore priests can easily force you to face off again say.... seven Convincing Infiltrator the majority of which have been cheated out, breaking mana rules, breaking '2 of' rules and completely shutting out a good portion of decks in the game doing something that requires zero thought process.
Their card stealing, board clears and spot removal are all ok...generally this is what people expect priest to do well, maybe even better than any other class. But endless card generation and rezzes were never part of the deal, and are unnacceptable, whatever the 'tier strength' of the priest deck is - gameplay matters more.
Quote from Psy_Kik But endless card generation and rezzes were never part of the deal
I think this really nails it. It's the card generation - which is good now - and facing the same minion over and over again. I played a Priest yesterday that played 327 Bone Wraiths.
I'm a priest and I've admittedly had some games that I'm not too proud of. I've had a few games where I've verbally yelled, "I'm so sorry!!" and have had to take a couple minutes break before getting back to it. I undertand the hate, sometimes I hate myself for some of the questionable plays I've made in the past but hey that's just how Priests are. I feel like you have to be willing to give up a little bit of your humanity to play Priest but it can be fun! As a Priest, you get to experiment with a lot of card combinations that you wouldn't typically get the chance to play and yeah there will be some low experiences for both players but in the end I don't think I would have nearly as much fun playing any other hero.
My frustration with Rez Priest is that it breaks the 2-of rule so egregiously and it renders counterplay meaningless. A large part of this comes down to very specific minions (which will eventually rotate) and the Reborn keyword.
I don't mind 2-of breaks -- Discover is good for this (and I think it's a good implementation, because it's generally unreliable). But Rez allows for 4-of, 6-of, 9-of specific, chosen cards. And effects like Convincing Infiltrator are just completely demoralizing. I see one, I can deal with it. Maybe I play some Lackeys that I don't mind losing, maybe I trade my only minion so the effect isn't too punishing. That's fine. Maybe I Silence it before I kill it, so I don't take the collateral damage. All of these are reasonable ways to deal with an annoying minion. Then it gets resurrected, and I have to kill it again. My Silence doesn't carry over through death, so it has the murderous Deathrattle again. Great. Oh, they just gave it Reborn. Okay, now I have to kill two more of them. There are three in the graveyard now, and ... oh, look, Mass Resurrection. I have to kill three more, because they haven't played any other minions, and not all classes have access to polymorph effects, so they're guaranteed Infiltrators numbers 4, 5 and 6, and they might still have another one in their hand, either from the second one they included in the deck or maybe they got lucky with an Invoke. Priest has the tools to allow for stalling the game out without playing any other minions besides Infiltrators (if they draw one early), and it just sucks.
Teching in Silence doesn't help much, because the Rez will pull the effect back. Teching in removal doesn't work, because removal actually advances the gameplan for rezzing. Maiev is good for a single bypass turn for a single one of them, and the Reno Hero Card will erase any that are around at the time, but there's just no way to tech enough answers to respond to the sheer number of things that require a response.
As I say, once Infiltrator rotates it'll be less of a hassle (assuming they don't introduce the DR: Kill a minion effect on another minion), and Reborn probably won't return after Year of the Dragon, so these are not permanent issues for Standard. But the cavalcade of sticky minions that are both solid taunts and good removals is demoralizing, slow and frustrating, since there's no real option but to try to grind through it (which, admittedly, sometimes works) or get real lucky. I'm not a fan of either option.
Because priest cards are super situational, but very powerful. They have an answer for everything and the only question is whether they draw it. If you play against another class you have to consider one or two different good plays from your opponent with the cards they have in their deck. Like warlock if you can you might try and set up a board that doesn’t die to darkskies turn three thats pretty much it. Against priest they could have shadowmadness, penance, buffs, aoe clear or shadowword death. You cant play around all of those so you just play what you think is the strongest turn and then the game is decided whether they have drawn their answer, i.e. luck.
And to the point of rogue. Rogue does not require any skill when played against specifically control, which is basically just priest right now. That is part of the complaint: Priest is not only not a very hard deck to play, but it removes most of the required skill for your opponent as well. Rogue discovered that lucky alex. Well chances are pretty high if the game goes on for 30 minutes.
Ever seen how game breaking priest is in wild? The shills here will then sit back and laugh for bringing up an issue with priest. “I play priest so this is funny”
res priest will be around forever in wild and will pretty much kill several decks and archetypes and never allow for an inch of change. I guess it doesn’t matter because salty
The point of people complaining about priest is, that they suffer from ADHS and need their daily dose of round 5 wins. Its fine for them to cheat huge minions in round 3 or a swarm the board every round and also being able to buff them. But god beware there is a counter called priest. Then they complain.
From what I can tell, People complain about priest because they claim it’s all luck, but have people seen rogues?
Whataboutism doesn't make Priest any better.
Priest, Mage and Rogue are all slot machines at this point. Blizzard pushed the RNG aspect to huge extremes.
And Priest went through this huge major rework to their classic set, but Blizzard utterly failed to fix any of the issues of Priest. They made buffs their primary strength, but then gutted their card draw so Priests can't run buffs. They made all these great battlecries, but then made it so Res Priest completely guts any ability to run battlecries. Their only viability is either with Galakrond slot value, or res Priest stall value. It's garbage design.

I think part of it is that when you see Priest, you are preparing for a 30 minute game.
Personally, I find it annoying when a Priest copies cards from your deck and pulls off your own gameplan before you do.

I have never had an issue with priests, at this point I'm startig to think its some kind of organized trolling.

No one except Mage and Priest players have the right to complain about 30+ min matches.
