Was Sacrificial Pact nerfed in order to let Demon Hunter shine? By "shine", I guess I mean be the best class. Blizzard is the parent that makes you lose a game of Monopoly so that your little DH brother can win.
Even before the card was nerfed, DH was in excellent condition. Some Warlocks might have had a slight edge against them, but nearly all other classes did not. And while Warlock as fine against DH, they could struggle against decks from other classes.
I know that they are introducing a new class and want it to be played and be potent, but does Blizzard have to be so blatant about it? And is this what we have to look forward to the rest of the season (at least)? Demon Hunter #1 and then a few of the other classes fighting for Runner-Up for the next few expansions...
Part of interest of each expansion was trying to crack the code of finding which deck was overall "best", but for the next year or so, it appears all anyone has to do is look at just one class to find it.
As a side note, Blizzard should have used a different name for the class. "Here you have a vanilla Hunter and over here you have a Demon Hunter." One just sounds like (and currently is) an upgrade of the other. Next we'll get a Dragon Warrior, Vampire Mage, and Tiger Shaman to choose from.
I would think the card was changed as to not limit design space. It used to be that warlocks were the defacto demon class however with demon hunter now the number of demons in the game will go up. For warlocks to have a 0 cost hard removal with a strong upside added effect is too strong going forward. Large powerful demons become much weaker.
Also it's called demon hunter because that's already in the established Warcraft lore. It might be confusing if you don't play any of the Warcraft games but it's not a random name.
Of course it was and anyone who thinks otherwise is dumb. Sac pact has never been an issue for the hearthstone team until now. Is it coincidence it happened when they just released their baby DH? Heck no

I can understand them pushing the class since it's new. It's hard to find any satisfaction with the class since it's so prevalent in addition to being "forced".
The various Galakrond decks from the other classes also feel uninspired from a player standpoint - use the 10 or so Galakrond neutral/class cards along with 20 others and you'll end up with something that was pre-designed deck that you had no hand in creating (outside of one or two cards).
Between the last two expansions, seasoned players should understand that to best decks with be Demon Hunter and Galakrond decks, with little else to discover - if someone had to guess which decks to play, a superficial scan of the last two expansion themes will show you exactly what you should do.
Sacrificial pact nerf might seem like a buff to DH but with the aggro lists you lose on turn 4 so it doesn't matter since they don't even run priestess since it's too slow. Basically if you are vs aggro DH and you are on the coin and they play the one drop you can safely concede if you're climbing the ladder. There is almost no possibility of winning (their aggro never stops, they don't dry up with resources like say aggro paladin does). If you are not on the coin you can still win.
But yes the sacrificial pact nerf as a HUGE buff to tempo DH that was so strong it didn't make it any less powerful despite nerfs. It didn't just nerf warlock vs DH into the ground, any deck with zephyr was nerfed to the ground vs tempo DH. As I said though, for ladder climbing to legend it doesn't matter because people are typically playing aggro lists.
Before nerf, SacPact has almost no use (since beta it was played in two maybe three standard decks). After nerf it has literally no use and it's yet another dead Warlock card in his classic set...

Gala warlock is so weak right now that you need to run two sac pacs still to not die.
sacpact fucks demon hunter in the ass completely. sure, right now it might have been nice to use to shit on DH but the simple truth is that moving forward this card polarizes the matchup between warlocks and DH. it deserved the nerf and maybe we'll even see some demons printed in other classes now too

I've cut them both out, because they seem too slow in GalaLock now. Heal 5 for 0 on paper looks fine, but I've found that in most cases it's not good enough and you need more pro-active plays with more tempo gain. That's why I've replaced them with 2x Khartut Defender. Yes, it seems much slower (even too slow), but if you can survive up to turn 6 (or 5 with coin), then most likely you will be fine... or die regardless. It's 5 (4 + 1) body to deal with and 6 heal on top of it. Most aggro decks have no easy way around this card (yes, Kayn Sunfury is a thing, but that's just one card), so it's very helpful in stabilizing. If you can stick it just for one turn, then you can try to build some more board and win the game. SacPact will never give you that chance.
Of course it was and anyone who thinks otherwise is dumb. Sac pact has never been an issue for the hearthstone team until now. Is it coincidence it happened when they just released their baby DH? Heck no
Lol. Sac pact wasn't a problem in the past because there weren't many good neutral demons. Only warlock had great demons and it wasn't worth to run 2 sacs if warlock wasn't popular on ladder. Also, sac pact is what prevents jaraxxus for seeing any play because Zephrys is pretty much in lots and lots of decks even if their not Highlander, because why not. But he'll rotate next year so no point in complaining about him.
When do you think that killing an enemy minion for 0 mana and heals you 5 is correct?
Right now, and before DH was released, Sacrificial Pact was not good enough to include in a deck. Maybe in Wild Highlander?
Even with Zephrys before the nerf, DH had not big problems with Highlander decks. They were developed with Sac Pact in mind. So now it's gone and DH was barely downgraded and is more oppressive than ever.

This statement is just plain stupid. Let’s say for example they didn’t release demon hunter at all, but gave every class 3-4 demons in this expansion because it fit the theme. Would sac pact be fair? Absolutely not and EVERYONE would be complaining.
Sac pact was tolerated because for hearthstone’s entire existence the only class running demons was warlock itself.
Sac pact being able to target enemies was not only poor in flavor, but also in balance. It absolutely limits design space as well.
Compare it to... Hemet Nesingwary, or rather his battlecry. Since Hemet has a 4 Mana (6/3) body, the battlecry: "Destroy a Beast" is worth 1 Mana.
So if "Destroy a Beast" is worth 1 Mana, why would "Destroy a Demon" be worth Zero Mana, while also having "Restore 5 Health to your hero", which is worth 1 Mana on its own?
The card just was not very well designed and basically only intended for the classic meta.
So they basically had three options:
1. Make it cost two Mana
2. Make it cost one Mana and remove the healing
3. Change it to friendly minion only
Since self-sacrifice is a strong theme in Warlock, I am glad that they picked option 3.

Hunter should be renamed Beast Hunter
Should be renamed to SMOrc

That's Incredible!
You guys missing the point slightly, SacPact nerf is not related to warlock only but also a slap in the face of every highlander deck

They never needed to nerf SP!!!!
Had to create a new profile because "something" went wrong with Hearthpwn!! Lost all my shit and they couldn't fix it they say!
Shame on you Heartpwn in these digital days!!
Oh yeah.….and FUCK Brainless Aggro

This topic is 90% troll and the remaining 10% has been very well answered already
Sacrificial pact was always lowkey overpowered.
