A: There are two matchmaking pools: 1. matchmaking by rating (aka. MMR) and 2. by rank.
When your star bonus multiplier is bigger than 1, or you are in Legend rank, you are (generally) in the first matchmaking pool; when your star bonus drops to 1, you are in the second pool.
So this is not me complaining about the new ladder system, so far I have been loving it, more rewards and more clarity on when its ranked and when its MMR and I also do like to know how systems work. In the past, we never really got written explanations from Blizzard on this.
But something weird happened to me this Sunday afternoon. We all know on Sunday there are plenty of people online for the system to find an opponent. I was playing for a few hours and no matter what Tier one deck I played I ended up playing about 50-50. This isnt weard, this is just the meta... but...
I am hovering at rank 4- 5 Platinum, So there are 5 more ranks before me to reach 10 diamond and then 10 more ranks from there to get to legend. Because of my losing streak, I started adding my opponents to see what ranks they were, and I found out a few of them where high Legend players already. I spoke to them and they told me they have been all legend multiple times. So I know most people will say, Yes you are getting matched by MMR! Just deal with it :)
But there is a caveat, with the information above provided by Blizzard I was clearly under the impression, I dont have any bonus starts left, I should be getting matched by rank and not by MMR. Even do I have never reached legend, it seems my MMR is kinda high seeing it's matching me against legend players at my current rank. Let me remind you, I was playing on a busy afternoon so it shouldn't be hard to find a match at all, there should be plenty of platinum and Diamond players out there.
So I am curious, has anyone else also noticed this, and have you found a logical explanation for what's happening here? Please share your foundings, so we can figure out how this system really works, as to me it seems Blizzard is not telling us the entirely how this system works.
With Regards in advanced for your written responses.

The system is super fu....messed up. I was getting the same issues multiple times - being paired with a guy with whom theoretically I shouldn't. Because of that the game expierience is getting worse.
im grinding to get to legend and i was rank 2 diamon no star bonnus and someone let me win and i added him to thank him and saw that he was legend yet i have never been to legend i could't have that much mmr and not even close to be matched based on my rank
i think its to not get mad cause u are a rank 4 and lose to legend maby thats what they thought
If anything it's the opposite of that. It's pretty easy to get tilted in HS just by playing: now imagine if you're high diamond trying to grind to legend and you lose to some guy in bronze. That would tilt the hell out of anyone. Whereas if you're at a lower rank and you lose to a player in legend you at least have an excuse as to why you lost. Players in legend would theoretically be less susceptible to this bc they've already achieved their goal and they would probably prefer to get matched with a player from any of the lower ranks than another player in legend for obvious reasons. With that said, I think it's probably just an oversight/error on Blizz's part that legend players can see their opponent's rank. You know, small indie company and all that.
Well I lost 3 times in a row on diamond 6 to highlander mage. Guess the fourth match - highlander. After loosing 3 times i have the same mmr as those guys? Blizzard f...ork you. I want the old system back.
How does matchmaking work for each season?

Another stupid thing is that legend players can see their opponent's rank and lower ranks can't.
