Ok, long story short I stopped playing since Un'Goro expansion. I started playing Battlegrounds and oddly found myself wanting to get back into standard and rank climbing but I don't have any cards to do so. What could I do without dropping an insane amount of currency??? I have 4740 gold and 1875 dust. Are there any staple cards in standard to target? I want to be able to build 3-4 standard decks. Thanks for any help regarding this.
That's not a lot of gold/dust if you want 3-4 decks. The new expansion is tomorrow so maybe wait a little while before looking for specific decks to craft.
Here's a useful website to look at if you've not heard of it already. You can find useful info on good decks and which cards are used a lot. https://hsreplay.net
Always go with the Pre Order just before the Expansion. This is the only way to get the cards you need to play Standard. You can fill in the gaps after a couple weeks with Gold and Dust.
I know you don't want to spend money, but you want to have fun and save time. Those 2 are the biggest factors for playing Standard. Spend either for the 40 packs, get maybe 1-2 good decks. Or go for the 100 packs, and have a few good decks and a bunch of dust.
Also, go in and start dusting old cards you will never play. This should get you at least 1-2 Legendary Cards and maybe an Epic or 2.

47 pack and 1700 dust it very limit resource, for build a deck i say with my experience as f2p game is very expensive now. and you stop play since un'goro mean only classic and basic card of your can play standard. with that gold and dust maybe wait for a while build a f2p play deck with 1 or 2 legendary.
Honestly, just starting back, it's probably easiest to just craft Whizbang the Wonderful and play around with some of the random prebuilt decks for a while to see what you like, what you don't like, and what's powerful. That'll give the meta a week or two to shake out as well and provide you with a little more gold to craft anything else you may want to try.
There is a new rule where you are guaranteed a legendary in the first 10 packs you open from a set. Therefore, I would buy packs from Rise of Shadows (one by one) until you hit a legendary, then packs from Saviors of Uldum until you get a legendary, and spend the remaining gold on Decent of Dragon packs. Don't bother with Witchwood, Boomsday and Rastakhan's Rumble, they are by far the sets with the lowest powerlevel, not to speak of the fact that they are leaving standard in April.
Don't use your dust yet. Experiment with whatever cards you got from your packs - everyone should be able to play Galakrond decks, since we get all five versions + two Invoke cards for free - maybe play a little arena if that's your thing, and wait for the meta to settle. Then, you can look at what meta decks you can afford to spend your dust on. This approach sould get you at least one good meta deck, possibly more.
best way to get back is to only buy packs from this year then be shit for 4 morths after 4 morths 2018 cards will be out and you will not have wasted gold on this 3 kind of packs
I think the only way is to dust cards that rotated out, craft a single good deck, then stick to it and farm gold by playing. But playing a single deck will get you bored very fast, so the two options you have is to let it go and play something else, or spend money

Daily quest: 60-100 gold
3 wins: 10 gold (max 30 wins: 300 gold)
Just that, or drop damoneeeeeyyyyy
40 packs and dust for a legendary, maybe two after open the packs? It is not so hard to put yourself back in business in no time.
If you like play quest shaman, cheap and competitive, really need only one legendary.
Right now is the worst time with 6 sets in standard. The rotation with the expansion in april would be perfect.
Maybe Arena or Battlegrounds would be better until the rotation. But if you really want to, wait for cheap decks which will rise in DoD

Thanks I will check this out
I could buy the 40 packs with the gold but since DoD is coming out I guess it would be wise to use to unlock those cards first..thanks
You just need to be good at arena. Play for a few days, use your 150 gold for arena ticket, go infinite off arena.
Of course is 40 packs from the new expansion.

If you're going to play, and you value your time, just buy the packs. Weighing opportunity costs it's way cheaper than being a F2P grinder.

is there any chance that shaman won't dominate the meta? I don't want to spend money if it's just going to be shaman on top again.
Shaman have too many good things to don't be the top dog.
Best, easy to complete and most powerful quest.
Powerful hero cards.
Tools for aggro, midrange and control.
Shaman remain in Tier 1 instead become Tier S is the best we can expected.
Welcome back!
