Only been playing a few weeks. At the beginning I became obsessed, I just had soooo much fun. I played it every chance I got. Don't throw the book at me but I have been playing COD solidly for years and needed a fresh change. I dabbled in Destiny for a year and that was fun but COD is all I ever played outside of that.
I got really excited about a new type of game that got me obsessed again. I don't have much spare cash now I have a baby so I have to slog it out the hard way. Everything was going great until I got to 16.......and then it was like everyone was suddenly pro. I got smashed all the way back to 20 and I can't get back out. I mean seriously, I am just watching a magic show in front of me while I get smashed into oblivion.
People suddenly have 24+ attack minons or a gabillion health. I see cards flying around, sound effects galore. Seemingly never-ending decks. I mean I am on 20 and feel like a naked man who trying to take on a sea of orcs solo (you know like that scene in LOTR when they are storming the castle).
How did everyone suddenly get so powerful? I can't see me getting back on the winning path unless I drop a bunch of money or just cop a flogging for a few months until I get enough to build a hot basic deck. You guys might be a lot more resilient than me, but I really can't handle losing 9 out of every 10 matches.
Any ideas? I really want to love this game again. Please don't let me go back to COD.
Dude, I feel you. I remember over a year ago I was in the same position - I somehow managed to get pass 15th one season but the next I wasn't nearly there because of the exact reason you mentioned.
The thing is that you maybe got lucky and got matched with people having similar card collections to yours... and then you ran out of luck. Also many people like to "farm" (a.k.a. behave like jerks and if you ask me) new players in the lower ranks and they stay in the lower ranks on purpose.
My advice is - wait some more time and don't play Ranked. Play Casual instead, grow your collection a bit and you'll eventually have that Tier 2 deck that will bring you pass 15th with ease.
No. dont play casual like @savron is saying. Is stupid!
If its a collection problem u got OldGuardians articel with different budget decks and go from there to any of the more affordable tier 1 decks. But, consider the way ur writing I dont know if ur just trolling :P
Been the same, then discovered I had Barnes and crafted a wild deck was something different and played wild for a bit. Learnt to relax again and now am back into it casual enjoyment is the key I think.
If you want to win, I suggest you look into crafting one of the meta rogue or hunter decks. They are currently some of the more powerful, yet cheap options available
If you want to do more than just play one or two very cheap decks, you'll need to pay up for some packs. The alternative is to get good at arena and grind out gold there, but that's massively time consuming and only worth it if you actually enjoy arena
With this all said, you are giving me the impression that you don't actually like this game that much, which is cause for concern. If you need to "want" to love it, I suggest you think again. HS is far too expensive a game to be on the fence with. Have you really only been playing 2 games the last few years? You should do some exploring before committing to the first thing you see. There's tons of games under the sun
I would suggest looking at some Legend decks you'd like to play, then see if the deck creator has a Twitch stream. Check out their past recent broadcasts while they're playing that deck, and learn from them. Most "pro" HS streamers explain their thought process while playing, you can learn a lot.
Keep in mind every deck usually has a hard counter, so don't feel bad losing if you're up against yours. At best a Legend climb is a 60-70% win rate, and a lot of that is the luck in your matchups. These sites can help you with decks (also this one too I guess lol -- has a more refined search feature):
Also if you're a little burnt out and don't have the funds/gold/dust for the deck(s) you'd like to create, I'd suggest learning the arena. On average, getting 3 wins will give you a pack + ~50g (covers your entrance fee -- no loss of gold), and 7+ wins gives you ~150g + a pack (can keep going and going getting a pack everytime). There's also good arena streamers that walk through their play.
Yes Arena is a good choice. Do the daylies and use the gold for Arena :-). The first year i focused one shaman then added other classes maining paladin and then warrior for a while. So Arenna and one class is good for starting. Playing casual is for trying out decks when you don´t want to risk sinking in ranking ^^. At least for me. So i would pick your favorite class and stick to it for a while. If you want deckbuilding help you can write to me.
Then why are you here? Telling others to quit the game while you are active in the forums and participating in deck discussions. Calling other people losers and whatnot. Rude much? Since you believe this game is bad as you posted, then practice what you preach, sir.
I don't understand people like you. Saying the game is bad and "warn" others off yet you yourself still plays it, active in forums and whatnot. You mental or something?
learn to play the game properly, maybe watch some VODs/streams to see what plays are decent and which are terrible. actively watch which plays by your opponent put you in a bad spot, copy that. get the hang of when you need to tempo and when you need to go for value.
i think it took me like a year to get legend first time.
NO Ideas, move on dude, this game is sinking along with the Company too. The L'oreal guy came to the game to not let them drown with their shit but he only played Goblins and Gnomes and Naxx games , never really got too far, so that's why the game is now like a repetition of past cards, lots of reprints and bullshit mechanics like before when the game was in his early days. Ben brode was the guy, after him this game went downhill all the way. Only losers try to keep this game in his glory, like Kibler and other losers well known. (Any person that lives trough a childish cardgame instead of get a real job/carreer is a loser). Don't be a loser, get out, find another stuff to love, this one is past, now it's only a generic cardgame to milk geeks and to kids with lot of time to spend.
And this sort of reply is why I need to know how to block a user. Sorry..... Loser. I always get those two mixed up.
Edit: I'm no fan of Kibler, but calling him a loser is a little.... Sad? I mean, he lives in California, drives a Tesla and is married to Natalie. Hello? 😂

That. Its not just your opponents. U are going to learn the advanced way of the game. Check some streams, whoever dont care just try to figure out what is the correct reactions proaction in game and u will climb like crazy, believe me

This! The auto complete function is pretty good now too if you are looking for replacements fitting your collection.
Building your collection and slowly completing competetive decks is an enjoyable part of the game for me, especially during the first year.
I completed the old pay-to-win warrior deck after about 10 months of playing ftp and had several other expensive decks at that point too. Just hang in there and enjoy the journey!
You shouldn't get obsessed with games, it's not healthy. Being passionate is ok, being obsessed is not.
Sh1t happens. Lose-streak happens. Patience is key.
Try to find a couple of solid meta deck, and focus on improving your skills with it.
On the other hand, avoid rushing any expensive crafting while your resources are limited: chances are, you are wasting them, and you can't afford that (talking from personal experience...): stick with budget versions for a while, it's entirely possible up to satisfying ranks, as long as you do not expect to get to Legend already.
Part of playing well lies in knowing what your opponent is playing: if you do not adjust your strategy to play around that of your opponent, you're bound to stay at low ranks.
Learning how to play well takes time, watching some streamers, especially if they play the decks you are focusing on, will help.
Casual is ok for practicing without risking stars, but expect to get the same lose-streaks from time to time. Casual is almost as competitive as Ranked.
1. Deck tracker. 2. Learning how to mulligan correctly (this is much more important than you may think) vs. different opponent types, going first, going second. 3. Knowing my opponents key turns, combos, win conditions and standard plays vs. your deck/archetype.
And just play play play. A lot of it comes with making the same mistakes over and over. Eventually it will stick.
Rank 16 after only a few weeks is really good actually.
As a player that had about 1/2 year break and seeing how people play in rank 10-20, I can tell, that if you are a new player, there is nothing to feel bad about. You literally got to rank 16 in which people are stuck for years even with meta decks. I faced maaaany golden heroes with full meta decks at rank ~20 and even if they are not as good as people in rank ~5 they still have the deck that plays for them. If I were you and I knew what I have done, I'd be just proud of myself and just tried to get the deck I have most fun/success with and learn how to play it better. Of course someone can say, that this game is only about learning the meta decks and knowing what's in your opponent's deck from the start, but I focus more on what I'm doing and what I'm doing wrong. Used to be legend in standard in Kharazan, Loe and Naxx without even knowing what is the meta. Ofc when i met secret pally 10 times in a row I can tell what's going to happen on turn 6, but still from perspective I currently am, I feel kinda proud of what I did. I even attended some tournaments with mediocre knowledge about meta (renolock pirate warrior days).
Now I'm just casually "griding" on wild, because I just feel like it's better that standard nowadays. But I'm more than sure that if i want to climb I can get to legend without knowing the decks and even new cards. (i won 3 games in a row with miracle rogue without noticing change to cold blood to 2 mana ._.).
Imo, the most fun i have playing this game is just having decent success with the deck I find most fun. Even if I lose I'm having fun, becasue I played something I want to play and if I win i'm more happy than when I win with some zoolock that I just crafted to climb and have 0 interest in playing.
I can only imagine how hard it is to begin on the game at this point - been playing since it went live so I have had time to get everything I needed, but if I had to start now, I can't imagine I would have much fun other than arena.
First of all, stay strong. Keep your chin up. Look at your baby. Remind yourself why you were put on this planet. You mention that you "really want to love this game". This will take time (at least three months of more losses than wins). You will lose so many games that you will doubt that you will ever enjoy this game. But have faith, friend. You WILL enjoy this game. But only as long as you overcome this period of learning that is inescapable for any new player to Hearthstone.
Indeed, losing many games in a single session or over multiple days can be unsettling. This is merely the nature of the game for new players.
The first couple of months for a new player is the hardest hill to climb. I have been there, my friend. I had no cards in my collection. I was hesitant to spend money on the game. Indeed, I did not spend any money until three months after I installed Hearthstone. But in that three months, I spent hours everyday studying the game, reading the literature for beginning and intermediate players, watching professionals and/or Legend ranked players play the game while providing their analysis on stream. There is much you, too, can do to improve while you collect gold (in order to buy packs).
With regard to buying/opening packs. I would recommend that you collect your gold EVERYDAY and not spend it until the next expansion is released in a couple of months or so. That way, you should be able to open about 80-90 packs + buy a 50 pack bundle (for example) which will help you expand your card collection. This is what I did. This helped me go from Rank 20 to Rank 6. But note that I was stuck playing one deck from one class for two months while I collected my gold. This is something you might have to tough out while you farm your gold. But keep in mind that you will enjoy the fruits of your labor when you open up to 150 packs in a couple of months of time. Then, and only then, can you begin to enjoy Hearthstone.
Friend, getting better at Hearthstone is no 100 yard dash. It is a marathon. As long as you remember this, you will improve at the game and be able to enjoy the game.
I can only imagine how hard it is to begin on the game at this point - been playing since it went live so I have had time to get everything I needed, but if I had to start now, I can't imagine I would have much fun other than arena.
I'm playing since beta (but f2p) and I still am lacking really big amount of cards, so yeah, can agree xD
Although, my friend recently started playing the game, for the first time ever and he focused only on mage, cuz it's his favourite class and about 1-2 months later hes griding for rank 5....

The main problem with switching to casual is that a lot of casual players take a lot more time on their turns which makes the games feel like a drag
