So I have been playing Hearthstone since Naxx (made like a year and a half pause in the meantime). I have achieved pretty much everything in this game except for reaching the legend. My best rank ever is 2 I think. The thing is that I have never bothered to achieve it because I like to play different decks all the time or I get bored (many times I am playing some tier 3,4 decks that I find fun to play).
I have 400 wins with Hunter and I see that Mech hunter version is pretty high on the meta-list (between 1 and 2). I would like to make the push for the golden portrait and I feel now is the time. I am sitting at the rank 5 with 2 stars. What is average % to reach legend rank? Would these 100 victories even be close enough to reach it? Is it even a good idea to play the same deck all the time?
In stats, anything above 50% winrate should get legend eventuelly. Playing the same deck would make you very good at the matchups but maybe a bit boring. However, if you learn to tech the deck depending on what matchups you face a lot it can be very rewarding.
Here is a link to a probability/stat calculator that shows on average games needed for a specific winrate to reach legend. Good luck mate.
You have approximately 25 stars to earn, let's say at 55% winrate. The formula is n / (2p-1), where n is the number of stars, and p is your winrate. So 25/(2*0.55-1). Which gives us 250 games, without counting the extra stars you can win when you're on a winning streak. 60% winrate would give us 125 games. Those are the maths. But maths are maths.
Given that you have a whole month to fulfill this objective, and if you are commited, it is possible to reach legend. Just be aware of the moment when you tilt so you can take a break and keep a good winrate.
FabulousSanta was faster than me, and indeed his calculator is adapted to hearthstone in the way it counts the bonus stars for winning streaks, which gives you very less games to play to reach legend than my formula.
You need a net of 24 wins to get to legend from where you are now. If you can keep up a winrate of 60%, after 100 games you will have a net of 20 wins (60/40). Improve your winrate slightly or play an extra 10 games and you should make it to legend.
It is going to be best to play a single deck, because you get better at understanding which cards are most important in which matchups and therefore improving your mulligan, as well as how to play against the other various decks in the meta. The better you are at a deck, the better your win rate will be.
I'd suggest you look at some decks on hsreplay, find the one that looks best and just stick to it. Don't tech your deck at all really, it would most likely just reduce your win rate since most decisions you might make would be on too small of a sample size for there to be any reasonable basis for deciding when a tech card is needed. Just keep playing and you should have no problem reaching legend, mech hunter is definitely a good enough deck for it. And heck, last month I made legend with mech paladin, which hsreplay says is tier 3 with a 47.5% win rate, so you can get up there with pretty much any deck if you know how to play it well.

My win rate from rank 8 to 5 was approx. 58%-60%

Fyi there are no bonus stars beyond rank 5.
