Let's see. Blizzard is doing a similiar thing with WoW were you can get most "old" expansions within the starter pack for a couple of bucks. Maybe it is not the time yet but I would not be suprised to see something alike in the future of HS.
Because old WoW content isnt played at all. If you level, you just need to pass the content (leveling content, nothing else). But since you now always get a free level up anyways, you dont need it at all. You cant compare it to HS.
That might be true. As I wrote above I am making certain assumptions about the purchases of older expansions and adventures. I have for example no idea how many people really invest money into old adventures. It would be really interesting and help the discussion a lot if data like this was available.
Why do people vote no? (I am just curious, is it because you already bought it and finished it, and don't want any new players?
Because if all of the olds contents become free, I'll ask for a full refund. Hundred of euros. And I won't be the only one. This is nonsense.
Why? You wouldn't be losing anything.
We would lose our investment. We bought a product which later had its value strippen away and was handed out for free. Imagine buying 100 packs today and tmrw finding out that all of the cards were given out for free. Nice way of losing money, isn't it?
Sugar, you don't have an investment. You have pieces of a digital toy. The cards have no value. I've purchased over 100 packs of ROS cards, and if tomorrow the entire series was made free... I'd be thrilled, because I would only have gained more pieces for the toy I like to play with.
Ah, the joys of the poor.
Investment, as in investing money to purchase something.
The term investment anticipates future value. It's called a return. Land is an investment because it appreciates. Hearthstone cards have no value, because they cannot be resold or traded. All that you can do with them is turn them back into the company that sold them to you at a severely reduced value. I should correct, you can technically "invest" in them, but to do so is patently silly. You will never see an ROI.
Also, unless you're a Koch or a DeVoss, your performative classism is super weird.
Unless you're super rich you're poor and hating on poor people is weird.
No, I just got those two magical things: education and jobs. Go outside and find some work instead of being a leech and expecting handouts
Babe, I have a job and an education too. I don't understand why you are pretending I don't... like, I'm seriously baffled by your behavior here. But that also has no bearing on the discussion. You're basically resorting to a false ad hominem circumstantial attack as the cornerstone of your position. I could be penniless and homeless, and still correct that hearthstone cards are not an investment.
It is a very bad idea, and I'm sure that it is never gonna happen...
First of all, why would blizzard give something for free, that is bringing a shit-ton of money?
Secondly, it would be a middle-finger for ALL old players who Paid/Grinded a lot to get those cards, it would be really unfair...
I'm not speaking from a perspective, where I have all the cards, and I would be jealous on others getting some good gifts. I just think about others at this point. I'm still missing a little bit less than half of the Legendaries and epics, so this would definitely be a win-win for me too, but I don't feel that it is fair... Personally I grinded for more than two years to get to the point where I am right now, and this step from Blizz. would take away all the justified and well earned prize from me, and even more from Old players...
PS: Please stop complaining on other different opinions, only because they are different, try to understand the PROs and CONs... Not like this thread is changing anything for the game... :p Asking that why are a lot of players voting no is the same shit, why you voted yes or other
Im F2p so i think it's a great idea, ive veen playing for almost 3 years now, and i havent been able to get most of tge classic sets legendary, so i do thinj it would be a lot more fun, beacuse more cards means more decks to use. Cuz f2p necer really fully experience tge game, and as a reward for the people who spent money on the classic set, they could five you dust for all the classic cards you already have. But they ll never do it.

Getting a load of content for free would be more fun? Who would have thought?
Regarding the op, I don't think it's a good idea. Not only would you have the backlash of the player base, you would lose whatever sales you make from classic packs. Given that new people will be coming to the game, I imagine classic packs do still sell.
Ultimately, if someone is free to play exclusively, it would matter very little what you did. You are going to struggle to convert them into paying customers and I don't see how throwing more free content will encourage that. My experience with exclusively f2p players is that if you give an inch, they want a mile. All they would do is complaint that they don't have access to all the new expansion cards and ask for more handouts. Giving them access to the classic set wouldn't likely change much.
As a compromise, I wouldn't mind somethings like having access to it through the first 10 ranks or whatever. Once you hit rank 25 and 'proper' ladder (or 20 of that's it, I'm not sure) then you lose that access but have had time to experiment etc and have a leg up in terms of playing with different decks. If at that point you're committed, you can earn them or pay money for packs. If you still aren't feeling it, you probably never will and you likely aren't someone who would still around long term anyway.
For what it's worth, I'm not a fan of the f2p mindset. They are generally the more negative and demanding section of fans that I see. Always want more and often berate the devs for being greedy or lazy, not just in hs but pretty much any game I've played extensively with a f2p model, I've seen the same behaviour and whilst I don't want to generalise and there are exceptions, I have far more negative experience with them than positive.
Honestly this is a microcosm of the greatest problem in society. People believe that because they did something to get to a certain position, their position is threatened by allowing people to get a leg up and skip some of the intermediary steps.
I think this is a good idea. And this is coming from a guy with almost every card and still a ton of dust left over lol, I bought the cards with real money, so this will sting a little. But I feel I got a lot of value from the money I spent. And if we want the game to head into the right direction we gotta give some breathing room for new players, by them making home brew decks and not getting instantly crushed because they don’t have busted legendary’s. To add on, they could disenchant Cards like Lorewalker Cho to play competitive decks. Making ladder somewhat diversed, albeit not by a ton.
Wow. I'm laughing about the ignorant people who crying about a lost "Investment" or want refund for all the Classic-cards. I have a full classic set too but i'm so in for giving it for free. In the well known theoretical game where one have to decide how much money out of 100 they would give to other people you are these who wouldnt give a cent to other people or deny accepting it if the other one gets more. Expand your horizon beyond yourself.
I have so many friends who preordered some expansions but now stopped playing because it got to expensive.
It would be a win-win for all. Even for Blizzard. Making some money with expansions is still better than making no money at all because the new players stop playing
I voted no, i don't think giving away does anything for the game. Maybe if it comes with an overhaul of the game like heroes of the storm 2.0 or fundamental changes to the evergreen set i could get behind something like this.
I'd be ok with the idea of making Classic free. I mean, at this point, most of all active players have most of Classic completed anyway, save for some obscure legendaries like The Beast or Nozdormu perhaps. If this gives some players an easier time to get into the game, it's worth considering. Though I will say that I think reworking the reward structure, dust refunds, pack purchases etc. to make completing Classic and other sets more managable is the more sensible approach.
I think building your collection and getting the cards you want piece by piece makes for a more fun game experience. Just not in Hearthstone, because its system is atrocious. You are progressing very slowly in a grind that never comes to an end, and every pack you open is a mixture of excitement and dread. That is the bigger issue that a step like the suggested one would not really fix.
That being said, Classic is a set that gets devalued more and more every year anyway. When I started out, I really wanted to have all those cards. By now, a good chunk of the cool cards was nerfed or kicked out of the set and replaced with crap. It's nice to get some dust refunds on golden cards, but aside from that it's just painful for me to see iconic cards of older days leaving the set or getting obliterated in a nerf that is poorly reasoned on top of it. Getting all of Classic doesn't mean as much anymore as it used to, and I strongly assume this will only get worse as time goes by. In other words, giving these cards to all players might eventually not even be much of help. You are just getting Basic+; much more cards but most of them useless nonetheless.
Sorry but I am 100% against this idea. Why? Don’t I want to help people? Well, honestly no, not in this way. People can decide for themselves if they want to spend money on the game or be f2p, both choices are fine. But it is a choice. To punish those people who invested heavily in the past by giving Classic for free is not fair and it makes no sense. It will help some people, sure but it has no benefit for the game in the long term. It will also make people think twice before they spend money on the game.
Everyone has a choice and if you are not in the position to spend money on the game then that’s fine too. Get a better job or do something so you can earn money to spend on the game like everyone else. Spending money on games in general is a luxury, as is having the time to play them. Nobody owes you anything, not even classic cards for a game you enjoy. Whining and begging for free stuff is frankly a load of crap from people who feel they are entitled to something for nothing, just for playing a game.
I will even go so far as to say that if Blizzard actually ever does this then that’s it for me, I will never spend another cent on HS or any game in future.
You are not investers in this game, you are consumers.
As a player who buys about 180-240 packs each expansion, I think this is a great idea. It would lower the barrier of entry to this game, and keep the game fresh with a larger continuous supply of new players.
Why do people vote no? (I am just curious, is it because you already bought it and finished it, and don't want any new players?
i voted no bc it would devalue my collection significantly.
Your collection has zero value at all. You cant sell them and you cant trade them. You have the cards or you dont have them. If other players have classic cards or not doesnt devalue anything.
OK, i give up. The Hearthstone-community is obviously so toxic that they would prefer see this game dying instead of make it playable for new players. And yes: it is quite unplayable if you start today and dont want to invest a shit load of money
We have many communists over here
That might be true. As I wrote above I am making certain assumptions about the purchases of older expansions and adventures. Missing lethal since June 2015.
i voted no bc it would devalue my collection significantly.
Will never happen. People would buy only the most useful cards and then wait until they get the rest for free.

No, and if than, ppl who bought packs at that time should get the exact amount of packs they bought in gold. Period
Your collection has about the same value as paint on a house. Sure it keeps your house of decks working, but it has zero value.
