Mor or less the title. I have got plenty of legendaries in the new expansion but i lack some really good ones from old expansions since i haven't played for a year.
I have 3000 dust but I am missing cards like Deathstalker Rexxar, Valeera The Hollow, The lich king, Prince Kaleseth.
I am guessing that with 40 packs and 3k dust i could probably craft all of the mentioned cards?
Packs are standard for at least one more expansion... so like 2/3rds of the year. That's some decent play time if you get it today, but not as long as Boomsday or Witchwood.
If you are trying to snipe certain legendaries it's better to craft them if available. If you don't need any other cards then the one's listed it's probably better to buy from the new expansion and craft the ones you want from the old. The only way you'll get a dust-positive value out of buying Lich King packs is if you need more cards from it or get a lucky draw and pull the legend you want.
If there are any lower rarity cards you need in thisnyear’s Expansions get them first. If you are only missing good legendaries (ie you won’t get many you really don’t want) or have no lower rarity cards you want them yes it makes sense
Lich King is one of the most played cards in the game, I would definitely craft him. If you want to play anything besides face hunter, Rexxar seems essential. Not sure if Prince K. is what you'd call essential, but he's really powerful and makes zoo go off when played on curve.
Next week, or the week after that, there is going to be a special event giving a reward fo 3 KoFT packs. Noy much, but maybe your pity timer resets and get legendary.
I personally don't think it's worth it if you mostly play standard.
Once year of the Raven finishes, Ungoro, K&C, and KotFT will all rotate out.
If you're ok with spending $50 to (maybe) have these cards until the next standard rotation be my guest, but I'd personally just craft the cards you need get the dust for them.
40 packs in general will most likely net you 2 or so legends, and they might not be the ones you're looking for. If you're buying packs for dust it's more efficient to do arena if you can consistently get 3+ wins.
Agree with everyone else here but if you want to drop some $$ on the game then maybe buy some packs from Witchwoid since you will get better use from them and use the extra dust to craft the legendaries you need from last year.
Rexxar is a staple card and lich king. The other two are good but situational. Rexxar is used in al competitive hunter decks. Keke and Rogue Dk not as compelling
I also advise you to with gold buy up to your first 10 packs from all of the expansions to get the first legendary if you haven’t done so already. Buy one pack at a time.
I said fuck it and bought the packs. All together i had 53 of them. I guess I am really lucky since I have opened Valeera and Rexxar both. So that's two of four cards I was planning to craft.

4 x 1600 = 6400 dust, you should be able to do this.
but maybe think for a second which class, deck etc. you want to play in the future.
If anything, get lich king.

As always it depends on your plans for the future.
Do you want to play Wild then I will say 100 % yes! Get those Deathknights, Princes and Lich.
