I just played against 3 legend rank cube locks in a row at rank 3. (strange matchmaking, i know) anyways all of them were around rank 14k and playing the exact same cubelock list. that seemed very strange to me because the lowest legend rank i've ever seen was around 7k. why are there twice as many people legend this season than usual? and why are all the dumpster legend players play cubelock? and why did all three of them play like complete retards and loose so hard to a matchup that should be favourable to them?
anyone ever experienced something like this? legend players that play like they don't have the slightest clue how the game works? did they all buy people to do the grind for them or is cubelock just so instawin you can reach legend with only basic knowledge of the game?
I can tell you about my experience this season. I've hit legend like 10 days ago and entered around 2-3k. After WW came out experimented a lot with new cards and now I'm stuck in 12-13-14k legend getting paired against rank 1,2 and 3 players with every loss getting me really down and every win getting me just a few legend ranks. Since the ladder changes legend has been a mess with nearly 20k people at the end of the season. I think they should fix sth in the matchmaking system, honestly it's frustrating to be at 60 % WR and always stuck playing with non legend players
Btw I've also seen people play cubelock horribly lately but that's maybe someone who's just recently pick up the deck and doesn't really know his way around it.
that indeed sounds like a stupid matchmaking system. why match legend players against rank 3 or 2 players if there are thousands of players in the lower legend ranks... that's kind of a loose loose situation for both, the legend players and the rank 3/2 players

It's not like all of them play 24/7, and the ones that play frequently are not necessarily available to a match the moment you queued, there are far more players in the rank 1-3 area, and they are actively grinding to legend so it's more likely they are searching for a match.
The match was fair, they were not great players, were they? The important thing should be skill, not if someone has grinded to legend yet or not.
As mentioned, it is much easier to reach legend now, so the MMR of the lowest legend players is lower now than it used to be. Even before legend, every player has a hidden MMR which is only used when matched against legend players.
If somone starts a new account at rank 25 and plows through every rank with an 80% winrate, I think they can even be matched with top legend players before they reach legend themselves.
that makes sense to me. i'm curious how fast that hidden MMR changes. because sometimes i feel like if i switch to a new deck i have a waay higher winrate than i should, winning almost every match for the first 10 games until i eventually hit a loosing streak that brings me down to a 50-60% WR. getting stronger and stronger opponents over time and wins would explain that

Hidden mmr is only important if you are legend or are playing vs legend. Otherwise, players will be matched according to their rank disregarding their mmr.
There is a video of a guy getting matched vs a rank 25 after throwing 100s of games at legend. Oh, and ranking is pretty much a MMR system on it's own, but yes, the hidden MMR can be different under certain conditions.
Using myself as an example, I hit legend and my initial rank was about 1200. I then tried a homebrew deck, went on a horrid losing streak, and am now around 5000. When I win games, I am barely increasing - although I think around 150-200 points per game, which is something.
I don't really care at this point with my legend rank so I'm not too down about it. But I do feel awkward if I cue into a rank 2 or 1 player.
Yea I found a 16k legend at rank 6. I think that they should make legend tiers or something, that get you more rewards or something, cause being 20k at legend is kind of less satisfying I guess

This was pretty much myself as well. I experimented with new stuff a bit more I suppose so I dropped from 1200 to around to the 7K range. My experience is even worse. I only gain 20 to 50 points for a win but lose twice that from a loss. However, it's more than just losses but the amount of people hitting legend. I actually went to bed for 8 hours and loss in the range of 1000 points overnight.
The reality is hitting legend doesn't seem to mean anything anymore. It's about your legend rank NUMBER. When I hit legend for the first time, it was before even rank floors and it actually felt like a challenge. I had to play religiously and make sure I was in the right mindset before each session. That same month, I dropped from Rank 4 with 5 stars to Rank 11. I had to recover all that lost time and hit the goal on the 20th day. This month I started at Rank 6 with 3 stars and played casually with the exception of a couple days before the expansion to get legend on the 11th. The amount of effort by comparison was minimal.

When they changed the ladder reset, there will be a slow accumulation of people in legend, as more and more people will reach the higher levels of the ladder. We have seen nothing yet, in a few seasons, I think there will be 50k people in EU legend, until every decent player who plays enough games will get there.
right now i'm queueing into more legend players than rank players at rank 2. i kinda feel bad for them because i'm at about 70% WR right now and have a decent matchup vs warlock (so far all of the legend players were cubelocks (7 times) or priest (2 times), all of them around 14k legend)
should be less than 0.5% according to blizzard, but that was stated a long time ago back when legend was not as populated as it seems to be now. probably closer to 1% now, but only team 5 knows the exact numbers i guess
I'm not sure why there's so many legend players the last few months. The first time I got legend there were only like 1500 people in legend on the NA server (around season 8 or so). The number got up to like 2000, but a few months before, and obviously after, the rank reset changes, that number's gone even higher. I haven't seen 14k though, but I normally play Wild. Even there, there's twice as many people at legend as there used to be. (over 500 vs ~200) It's probably just that it's getting easier and easier to get Legend with some of the degenerate decks out there, like aggro paladin or naga giants.

When I first hit legend the percentage displayed was .25%.
So what I'm extremely curious about is that the Dev Team has stated that and i'm paraphrasing here
"you are matched with someone based on your stars and stars only....we don't take other things into account" (i.e. at rank 5 1 star I will be matched up with rank 5 1 star period [understanding it could be rank 5 2 star etc])
Now at legend we can clearly see that something else is taken into account, there is some hidden thing that say 14k legend is actually something less than legend (ranks 1-7 at least).
What is interesting to me is the amount of times myself and many others (countless threads) seemingly change xyz cards and then never face that deck again or alternatively walk into the counter matchup. We know other games utilize algorithms to keep the global winrate at ~50% would not surprise me in the slightest......hence rank 14k legend is not actually a legend player (trying to get him/her back up to the 50% threshold through matchmaking)

I played against a 7k legend yesterday while I was rank 7. He played Spiteful Priest I think. I added him after but he didn't accept. Strange.
okay that's interesting to know. them being bad because they are frustrated with their experience sounds like a possible explanation

Do we have any idea of how many players make legend every season vs. how many players there are in total?
I assume it is still a tiny percentage - less than 1%?
