Just reached Legend for the first time. Used Spell Hunter until Rank 4, Control Priest for Rank 3 and used Dude and Murloc Paladin for the rest. It was actually quite unpleasant to grind up there. Thank God its over. Lots of respect to all you guys doing this every month <3
2. On turn 4 go (if second otherwise turn 5) Malchezaar's Imp into Cataclysm and discard your Silverware Golem and have Death Knight and The discard queen in your deck.
3. Lose the game anyways cause that makes no sense

True this. I also hit legend for the first time ever this month, 69%WR with Secret Mage from rank 2. Definitely not something I would do every month. Now I can get to rank 5 every month and camp there.

With the ranked changes, you have a lot more time to push for legend. Next month, you won't even be at rank 5...you'll reset to rank 4. I can definitely see myself hitting legend every month now that I actually have time to do it.
Was switching between Spiteful Druid and Murloc Paladin, got to rank 2 twice then fell to rank 4, switched to Spiteful priest, and that got me to legend yesterday, first time legend.
Finally made the push last night after sliding up and down rank 5-3 the last couple of days.
Kids in bed, wife sleeping, a good show on tv... and the meta was good (many paladins and mages). Played Barnes Spell Hunter exclusively from Rank 4 to Legend with ~65% winrate.
Kinda late in the season, but the last couple of months I had not that much time for hearthstone.
I only needed 103 games from 'rank 9 5 stars' to 'legend' with a 68,9% winrate.
I played from 'rank 9 5 stars' to 'rank 5' big priest. Then, I started to play different stuff. After some time, I played secret mage until 'rank 4 x stars'. And after that I thought, lets go back to big priest, and I played it until 'rank 2 1 star'. And today I thought, yeah lets try to do it fast with murloc paladin (yeah I know, it is indeed not the hardest deck to play).
I reached legend 2 days ago and I would share my experience with you :).
I have reached from rank 6 to rank 3 with tempo mage. This is not so interesting, because rank 5-3 is pretty much up/down for fun. It took me about 3 days, but not in a row (1 day from rank 6 to rank 5 in the begining of the month , some more plays for fun up to rank 3 and 1 day from rank 3 to legend).
From rank 3 I decided to play with spell hunter for fun mainly, but as well I saw that it play pretty good on streams. I was pretty amazed how good it really play my score was somewhere 35-20 - 63% win rate. It plays really amazing vs paladins/mages. 90% win rate vs paladins(maybe even harder. I remember 1-2 matchups where I lose vs paladins). 100% win rate vs mage. Mage is really good matchup. Priests are about 50/50%, warlock is really bad match, maybe 10-15 % win rate. My last game on rank 1 5 star was vs warlock and I was pretty happy to earn my legend exactly vs bad match up. I think that in this meta, this deck is really one of interestings one, and somehow feel fresh for me.
Some tips for the deck:
General guide: If possible always muligan for Barnes. Keep tracking (for searching Barnes). And the most important. YOU SHOULD KNOW YOUR OPPONENT DECK! You should know how it plays and how to work vs it. Of course Barnes on turn 3/4 is increasing almost 100% win. So this two cards really improve your win rate and speed up climbing.
Warlock: You have 2 situations. In all matches there was lackey + pact on turn 5 with coins or turn 6 without. So you have about 5 turns to either finish lock or you go in late game.
1) You have barnes on turn 4 and you can pul Y'Shaarj. Than you need to do everything to push forward and kill lock.
2) If you don't have Barnes, or somehow Y'Shaarj is in hand or killed, in late game I would advice to put rexar as fast as possible. Problem vs locks is that N'Zoth and Bloodreaver Gul Dan is giving a giving a lot of value in 1 turn and it is pretty impossible to build board vs them. (Thats why 60% of the decks are agro decks, because you need to somehow play against 30-40 mana board for only 10 mana and you have no choice... thank you for gul dan). So what should you do next? Create new zomby beast every turn. Your should try to put pressure on board all the time. Only way to win vs gul dan is to have at least some board once he play nzot/gul dan. Of course lock will clear it constantly, but his removal are actually finite, while your beast are infinite. Dont try to have some expensive useless beast for 9-10 mana which you can't play on the same turn. Our chance is actually to take all removes from his hand and somehow to survive gul'dan/nzot. Play with this in mind. You somehow need to survive gul dan and nzot. Almost no chance to rush him in the face after turn 6-7. And the most important. If you see that you are in late game, stop using tracking! You want gul dan to go on fatigue first. Actually sometimes it is worth to concede, if you haven't rexar and to not waste time.
Priest: This is average match up. Barnes is again good advantage and it may give us free win, but remember, priest has shadow world death, and can somehow steal your atack from Y'Sharaaj (kobold, which change atack if you have dragon in your hand). So you should have back up plan if possible. As well remember about Duskbreaker dragon. Count as it is always in his hand (and pretty much it is like this always :D ). So don't put all of your minions on the board before turn 3/4. Keep some after clear. This is general guide vs priest with every deck at all. So For example play spellstone and keep 2 animal companion in hand. If he clear, put animal companion, if he clear ... put something else. Of course it depends by your hand, but in general this is the strategy. If you go in turn 6-7-8 priest in general don't have so much healing as lock, so you can try to push him, but sometimes it is good if you see that you can't push, to play rexar as soon as possible. But you should think how easy you will be able to push it, but it is not impossible as I say.
Mage: This is easy match. Just muligan for control. Actually Barnes is not important here. You want candle shot, secrets, flare around turn 4-5 maybe (but don't keep it on muligan). Barnes is advantage, but not really needed, so don't search for it if you had good control vs mage. All of your secrets play against the mage. The most important: Less damage you take in face, better. So you barely care of killing mage 1st if you just build better board. Spellstone is really good on turn 4/5 and even if not with 4 wolves. Mage is really very weak against board and if he miss 10-15 dmg in your face, he than really have hard time of killing you without cycling whole deck, and this is never gonna happen vs hunter. You will figure it out. It is really easy. Cat trick and wondering monsters are really useful. This block his mana wyrm and if he play some frost bolt/fire ball in your face, you will receive extra minion. 1 Fire ball is not a problem once you build board, because he will need to clear it somehow and on next turn you will be in advantage and you will turn the initiative to you. Remember for counter spell.
Paladin: Again easy match up. Just control the paladin all time. Try to not keep a lot cards in your hand (because of Divine favor) and paladin has no chance. Barnes vs paladin is dead for him. His target is to face you, while with barnes, you will face him first. If you have Rexar on turn 6, use it for clear. You don't need to push him with hero power (except if he is almost dead). Fire trap of course are useful, wandering monster as well. Hunter can build board quickly even if it is not agro hunter, because most of our spell are pretty defensive vs agro decks. Muligan should be something like Candle Shot, Wondering monster, fir trap and etc. And most of paladins are stupid and play really bad. They don't play vs your secrets. One paladin from legend even 1st put minions on the board, than open my fire trap...
Hunter: Most of them are spell hunters. Play vs their spells and what secrets may he have. For example if hunter has no secrets and minions, I would rather put Cat Trick, because most likely he will play spell. If he has some secrets already, definetly wondering monster is better, because if it is cat trick, you will spawn it and cat trick will suicide in your face. If you place cat trick vs cat trick, you will spawn his cat, and you will have 0 reaction vs it. If he has eaglehorn + panther and for example he play animal companion he will do to you free 7 dmg on next turn and you will not react to it. Even if he play spell and your panther spawn, he will have advantage on board and on face race. Of course in mirrors it important what you topdeck, but anyway, you can play clever and stupid. If it is agro hunter, it is the same as playing vs paladin. Agro deck which depend on minions.
Druid: I rarely saw this class. It is not our best match up, but there was 2-3 druids. In late game druid will win, but if you manage to build board to turn 5-6-7 druid will come back hardly and mainly you need to push him. Rexar hero power is useless vs Jade 10-10 and very slow vs druid I think, so don't try to go in late game. You have all chances with spellstone and various others beast you have.
Rogue: I faced rogue rarely. Mainly it is advantage match up. Care with barnes, that he may sap Y'Sharaaj, but it is worth putting it, just have a alter strategy after it. So actually rogue play very bad vs big boards (and miracle and kings bane). I had 100% win chance vs all 3 rogues which I face. Actually you play much quicker than rogues and you have a lot of push as well
I didn't saw any other classes to play, so I don't know how it plays vs Shaman, warriors.
I'm the closest I've ever been (I think rank 3 4 stars as of last night). I've been playing mostly secret mage (I truly believe it has a surprisingly high skill ceiling, even though it is a very powerful deck with a high skill floor as well haha). I just have to get like 15 more wins than losses the rest of this week, with Friday being a stat holiday. I think I can do it.
The one problem I'm having... The only class I have a losing record against is warlock, oddly enough. Thankfully I've still faced less than 10 warlocks above rank 5, so it doesn't worry me too too much. But still. I'm like 5-2 against paladin with this deck, 9-3 against priest, something like 10-4 in the mirror matchup. But like 3-5 against warlock, which I think is strange, because secret mage is supposed to walk all over warlock haha. Granted I don't run silence or polymorph (I've teched in Eater of Secrets for the most part, though sometimes Spellbreaker goes back in for a bit) since I don't see them too much, but even if I did, I just feel like their self healing is too strong for the mage burn to overcome.

Finally I did it! I tried Control Lock, Cube Lock and Inner Fire Priest. In the end, Cube Lock carried me. My first try at Rank 1 (5 stars) was against a Control Priest. He made a mistake at the end but won anyway. Then on my second try, there was a rogue who was 16k legend. His deck was not that good at all and I won easily. Most likely, control locks learned how to play against mage. In february, I felt pretty much unfavored against mage but then I changed my gameplan and kept on almost never using hero power against secret mages and this was the point my winrate went above 50% against mage. This is even more true for higher ranks.
That could be. Probably the same reason I can still win vs paladin (I think I'm now 8-6 in that matchup).
Either way, I think I'm switching back to big spells mage the rest of the way. I more consistently win with that, against both paladins and warlocks, which is all I really face any more. And priest sometimes I guess. But everyone seems to have switched to paladin (to climb to legend fast) or warlock (to beat those paladins) haha. Big spell mage can find a nice spot against both of those I've found =P.
Edit: Also, the last two days, I'm a combined like... 9-12 or something with my secret mage, after going 22-10 over the weekend with it haha. So I've lost my mojo with secret mage somehow. Or everyone's just learned to play against it and I haven't adapted accordingly, or something.
So after going 30-35 between Sunday and Tuesday (including a nasty streak that saw me plummet from rank 3 to rank 5 1 star), I went 11-1 yesterday. Back to rank 3. I kept saying last night that I couldn't go to bed until I lost. Rattled off a 10 game winning streak and still didn't lose. Hopefully I can continue that today haha.

Legend with miracle, it's been a fun ride. Interestingly enough, I got my first win of the season vs barnes hunter at rank 1&4, better late than never after at least 10 hopeless losses against these guys =)
Been doing good against dudes, warlocks and all kind of priests, struggled against burn mages and murloc pally, and as mentionned, barnes hunter feels like the worst match-up in the history of dreadfully terrible match-ups. Curse you to hell, spellstone.
edit: the highlight of my climb was actually playing against a keleseth/spiteful/c'thun druid, who interestingly enough got an 8-8 c'thun off his spiteful, as he played a c'thun buff earlier. Whoever it was that was playing it, dude, you are my hero.

I'm still hardly believing it, but I actually reached Legend with my Spiteful Priest two days ago, exactly five month after I started to play.
I run the standard version, with as techs Cabal Shadow Priest (to steal more Demons), Gluttonous Ooze (to destroy Skull of the Man'ari) and Kabal Songstealer (solid minion on its own, also good to silence Possessed Lackeys or Voidlords).
I'm the closest I've ever been (I think rank 3 4 stars as of last night).
