I tried to suggest a change to ladder in another thread I started regarding the introduction of algorithms to ladder - but there is a huge divide between people who desperately want ladder to change and those who like it as it is. So much so that the thread largely devolved into those who wanted change being told they were just scrubs who needed to 'git gud', exception being some of the more reasonable forum members. I honestly hadn't realised before that that there were people who actually like ladder as it is. To me this is madness and a huge overhaul is required.
A rotation change isn't enough - there needs to be tangible reward for playing off meta and slower decks.
last month was the first month in over 2 years that I didn't try to get to rank 5. Got to rank 10 and stopped because I was having more fun playing random decks I created rather than tier 1 decks.
Granted I also had around 1200 gold that I used for arenas so ended up playing around 20 arena games last month (with a best arena being 9 wins)
Ladder definitely needs a big revamp. Hopefully we see that with the new standard rotation in 3 months.

Quit complaining and just have fun with this game!

It's not that people necessarily love the ladder environment. It's that your idea doesn't work.
The problem is that Ranked play is how people qualify for official tournaments. As such, it's completely ludicrous to impose any kind of penalty for using optimal decks, which was your suggestion.
What you people want is a new, separate game mode. Changing Ranked play is not and cannot be the answer.
And, I'll repeat myself from the other thread -- you could also just all make friends with each other and form your own anti-meta league, where you disallow the popular decks that annoy you so much. You can complete quests in friendly games now, so you can't tell me there's no reward.

I've never quite understood community angst with respect to net decking - the ladder is the HS competitive format, and it's perfectly appropriate, expected and reasonable for the large majority of people competing on the ladder to use the most competitive decks. The vast majority of folks competing in IRL tournaments don't bring their "crazy home-brews" to the competition, but reserve those decks for screwing around with friends. Presumably, the same ought to be expected of HS - I recall TotalBiscuit giving up the game in disgust when he couldn't have fun on ladder piloting his ridiculous home-brews while everyone else was piloting top-tier aggro decks. But his expectation didn't make the least bit of sense - the ladder will always be dominated by competitive decks, and it should be, and it would be wrong for the devs to interfere by giving some sort of inducement which favoured "fun decks" in the competitive game mode. There are already "fun modes" in HS. Folks who want to screw around with Reno Mech Rogue can certainly take their chances on the Wild ladder, but they ought to have a realistic attitude about the likely outcome - not unlike every other competitive format in every other IRL card game. For folks who don't have any HS friends, and can't screw around with crazy decks anywhere but on the ladder, there has been a thread on this site for nearly two years filled with "Make a Friend" requests. It's currently on its fourth or fifth iteration, and each previous iteration had tens of thousands of contributors - altogether, over 100,000 posts of people trying to make friends.
I rarely enjoy it at all anymore. I'm just trying weird new decks at this point, which is borderline impossible to even play as you'll be facing the same 3 insanely overplayed meta decks that will stomp out anything that isn't another meta deck.
my biggest issue with the meta is how refined it is bc of it having 6 expansions in total. until the standard rotation comes around, ladder will be a boring shitfest of net decked powerhouses. it's sad seeing how many archetypes there are available, yet only a fraction of them working.
Hopefully the next standard rotation fixes most stuff. at least it will get rid of most of the insane cards, which mainly seem to come from gadgetzan.

We will have balance changes in Feb which should help I hope.
Nope. The meta is actually worst it has been since Gadgetzan. I can't wait for the nerfs, because right now I'm only logging in to do dailies, and that usually happens 3 months into an expansion, not a month...
I enjoy it fine. But I'd point out that if you've got people cutting up to ranks of 5 or above, they can't hate it that much. That's still a significant time investment.
16 to 5 is not a significant time investment at all.....if you wait til about the 10th-15th of the month you can do it in one day and just not play hearthstone for the rest of the month if that's all you're after. Maybe 5-6 hours of play.
If you do it at the beginning, sure....it's a huge time sink and you'll be grinding for 3-4 days to rank 5 for 6hours a day.
Not really. I played 25 games yesterday and I think only saw 4 different decks the entire time. That was a bit extreme compared to most days but the lack of variety just sucks so much fun out of the game. It's just boring to play the same matchups over and over and over.
Do players have a reason to reach legend? Aside from getting the card back the one time the only reason to get to legend again, aside from the base fun of doing the grind for the heck of it, is to increase your chances of getting invited to major tournaments and/or netting more views on your personal stream.
People moaning don't really seem to have a knowledge of the ebbs and flows of card games...this is normal, it's a game that is coming up to its 4th anniversary - if you ask players of magic whether they have experienced periods where a small number of decks dominated standard play, they will confirm that this has happened numerous times..
It's natural and it's something to play against, both literally and psychologically.. fun is subjective. You can't define what should and shouldn't be for everyone...
An inserted play mode twist could be in the form of a bunch of free to play quest cards which reward bonus experience or specific cards on completion.
Raise the Level of all heroes to 70 and make unlockable new class cards as you level each character.
The quests could be played in ladder and encourage users to try new deck strategies by focusing the requirements of each quest on technical plays and meta types.
The quests for a level 60 character would be easier than the quest for a level 65 character.
This would be in addition to the Daily Reward Quests as we all still need our free gold. You could even add gold into quests rewards, such as in Warcraft to give even more encouragement to play them.
Never really liked the ladder system - I keep feeling down when I get pushed back 1 or 2 ranks - I think they should make each rank as a stepping stone just as they did with rank 20, 15, 10 and 5. I feel that the legend ladder is the real ladder and it should be easier to get in it.
Been trying to grind my way to legend a few times, but never got longer than rank 4. Every lost match under rank 5 is just a huge step back since there isn't any winning streak reward (extra stars).
Yes, im enjoying this meta more than recent metas. My two favorite and most played classes are paladin and warlock so im really enjoying the fact that they both have solid options in this meta. Cubelock is a blast. Aggro paladin is very shockadin-like from the olds days.
The only downside of this meta is raza priest (priest has always been my least favorite class to play against). Their toolbox is just insane. The deck was already broken, but Psychic Scream pushed them over the top. It enables them to do nothing but cycle their deck with relatively little fear of not establishing the board and/or fighting for board control. I understand its a bit harder to play than many of the other meta decks, but its also very forgiving. The fact that the deck can have over a 50% winrate while being piloted sub optimally is insane. When piloted correctly, the priest should feel favored in nearly all matchups.

I feel like I only play Priest, Warlock, or Paladin anymore. Occasionally, I see a Mage or Druid.
Good thing there are some balance changes incoming.

Why u hav to be mad? is only card gaem.

only with meme decks for the most part. Try-harding is getting frustrating
Renounce Darkness
Yes, but, only wild ladder, Freeze mage with Frost Lich Jaina and Secret pally are so fun :3
Most definitely no. Standard meta is by far the most boring, predictable ever.
Wild can be fun and people are really creative with non standard decks.
FUN
IS
SUBJECTIVE
I am shocked how this still goes over your heads -.-

Please don't tell my girlfriend about my card collection...
I go to 10 or 15 and usually 15
higher ranked games are repetitive with the same 4-5 decks which bores me (half of that statement is fact not opinion)
I tried to play Wild but...
the games can take a very long time... 15 min plus... too long for me
Nightblade Argent Lance Flame Imp
Argent Watchman Argent Squire Frost Giant
Aviana Hogger Snipe Sea Giant

As I have always done, ill just stick with arena.
