I was thinking with all the new weapons in the game now about how they can be countered. Admittedly some of the weapons are better than others and the ones that do seem to be stronger are ones you dont really want to destroy with a standard ooze such as Val'anyr .
So what about an Ooze that silences the weapon effect rather than destroys the weapon? Therefore when talking about Val'anyr paladin will keep the 4-2 weapon but the effect is what is lost.
I'm all for extra tech cards and I wouldn't mind seeing a Kingsbane counter being available. However, I can't imagine that something like that would be played very often. There's not a ton of weapons with helpful text in the meta and the only classes that consistently buff their weapons are rogues and pirate warriors.
Unless it hits the 2/3 taunt summon a copy, guy... then they both have that effect, which spirals wildly out of control.
Yes, but if your opponent keeps getting lucky and landing the highrolls, you're probably going to lose anyway, it's not Val'anyr alone that will make the difference in those cases.
Yes and no. You get lucky once (or play your hand so its the only minion when your weapon gets destroyed) and you have 2 6/5 taunts, both of which have deathrattle, reequip Val. Kill both and the first weapon equips, is destroyed (giving yet another minion the deathrattle) while still equipping the second Val'anyr. And so on and so on...
To be fair, I've only had this happen a few times, and all in casual. I don't think this particular weapon is that prevalent, especially in high ranked play, but I can see the desire for a silence ooze.
I'm all for it, or having silence type spells and triggers allow heroes as a target. It wouldn't have to do anything but null the weapon ability which is something we have no ability to interact with yet.
I doubt that Blizzard would do it because it'll screw up design space for weapons, both new and old.
I think it's the opposite. A silence effect for weapons would open more possibilities for weapons effects that would otherwise be broken without a silence. Imagine if silence didn't exist for minions for instance, it would make some cards almost impossible to deal with.

Yeah, like, we wouldn't be able to polymorf them and entomb them, right.
Actually, silences were nerfed compared to old 2mana hoot hoot, and I really like game without so many silence around. They were ruining the fun really hard.

That's an excellent counter-point. But I would argue that I don't think they'll do it quite so fast because the legendary weapons *just* came out. If something was far and away causing major problems, like say the Pirate package did before it prompted Golakka Crawler, then maybe. I just don't see anything that's abusive enough for them to specifically do a kind of 'hate' card like that, especially when Brode said that it's the exact kind of design choice that they don't like making.
Of the recent nerfs, the Small-Time Buccaneer nerf was pretty well received. But when Golakka Crawler was revealed for Un’Goro, people were saying that this should have came together with the previous set, not in the new set. What do you think about releasing more tech to beat the mechanics of the set itself rather than having it be like three months later?
That’s reasonable feedback. We came up with Hungry Crab when we launched Hearthstone in the same place where we had Murlocs. And it’s sometimes the right thing to do, and sometimes I think we want to make sure that a deck has time to breathe and an opportunity to be very successful. I’m not sure what the exact right answer is in every situation but I don’t think that’s crazy. I think that’s something we will potentially do, if the situation demands it.

So while I think that the idea is in the right place, I just don't see them doing it.

I'd like that too, but it'd trivialize more than Val'anyr. It would also screw Twig of the World Tree, Blood Razor and the aforementioned Kingsbane. And that's only in standard before we consider older things like Death's Bite.
