Hello everyone, I'm new at these forums (I always visited the page to check new info regarding the game). I'm currently Rank 10 and I would really like to achieve Rank 5 before the season ends. I used to rank with Aggro Druid (because it was cheap and effective) and post nerf the deck is almost dead. I don't know which class to play or deck to build. Any suggestions?
Tbh I think anyone who isn't straight up bad at the game should be able to hit rank 5, the biggest obstacle is it can take a lot of games/time, if are able to commit to it then you should be able to reach it easily.
Well, Evolve Shaman did it for me. I was struggling with my Murloc and Handbuff Paladin decks (between Ranks 8 and 9 for a week) and after I switched to ES I made it in like two hours.
As a side note: perhaps Aggro Druid is not quite a fit for you - I have an about 40% winrate (!?!) with the deck after some 100 matches and I don't consider myself a complete idiot, so maybe for some folks the deck just don't "click".
literally any tier 1 or 2 deck, with enough persistence, can hit rank 5. win streak bonuses make it such that you don't even need a positive winrate to hit 5.

Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination.
It just takes time unfortunately. That's my biggest problem with ladder. Between work and taking care of my son, I don't have all the time in the world to play and gain rank. I just want my 400 dust at the end of the month, but my life doesn't allow me enough time to do that. The ladder really needs to be redesigned.
Good deck and try to play correctly (i just watch some gameplay videos on YouTube for pointers, especially with guys who outloud discuss every move) but after that yeah it still takes at least dozens of matches even if you play well... I play around 10 matches per day and usually reach rank 5 during the month, around 20th that is... If i don't play fun decks at all and only play top tier then i can reach it during first half of the month (i did that in August, and that is how i became legend last month)
As some have said already, it's just a matter of how much time you have to devote to the game. As long as you can play a deck decently well, with enough time you can grind to 5. I set a goal for myself to get to at least rank 10 every month. That way I get some decent end of month rewards and at rank 10 I can play whatever I want without worrying about dropping ranks due to the rank floor. I enjoy goofing around with weird decks so that's where I find enjoyment with the game. Grinding to legend isn't much fun and I'd have to sacrifice the free time I devote to other things I enjoy doing to get there, which isn't worth it for me. I do hope that whatever changes they make to ladder allow for players like myself (who have families and other responsibilities/interests competing for free time) to be rewarded for higher win rates, rather than just how much time I can devote.
The best decks at the moment to grind in my opinion are Evolve Shaman and Highlander (Razakus) Priest. Unfortunately, there are no tier 1 decks available for budget players I guess any more, as Druid was nerfed to hell recently. But, Pirate warrior should still be good actually.
If you can play those decks well and regularly I think you should be able to hit 5 easily.
Well personally I would say it shouldnt be that difficult. Razakus priest, jade druid, tempo rogue and token shaman are all amazing to climb the standard ladder (after you master the basics of these decks of course...). Or if you dont have success in standard with anything, and you start tilting, i highly recommend wild format...
I just made rank5 in wild with my own version of secret nzoth paladin, high winrate (around 68%), had a streak from 19 to 13, got stuck only at rank13 and rank8, but after that I had a long streak from botton rank8 to 5, and had a lot of fun...
Personally I would recommend wild, because of higher variety of deck types, everyone tries his own versions of everything, and skill may matters more (handread, mulligan, DECKBUILDING - makes higher skillcap). Not as many netdecks there, you can experiment yourself better while having fun at the same time, and succeed.
I found nzoth reno DK priest to be best deck there, that was my only hard counter, but had a fine success against it when I started to play his clears around better, and started learning the deck itself...
Token shaman seemed pretty good there too, but I found my pally curving out better most of the time, and had more value overall.
Found a few druids too, but my deck was simply faster. Reno DK warlock seemed fine, and faced a few hunters too, high tier 2 decks i would say.
Not a lot of mages but my buddy made it to rank5 pretty easily with secret mage, so if you have mage cards i would give it a go too since nobody runs counters for mages, and minion based midrange / tempo decks are generally weaker against board freezes/blocks/face spells. And wild meta kinda revolved around that except for priest.
Overall: - I would give midrange pally a go, I found the secret/nzoth variant effective. - Probably Razakus Nzoth DK priest is the toptier deck there. - You can bring your standard token shaman here too, you will probably succeed most of the time. - Maybe give mage a try, the dark horse of wild ladder at the moment.
How easy is it to reach rank 5? How good are you at Hearthstone?
I don't mean that to be a challenge, or in fact an assertion that it takes particularly advanced skill at the game to make it to rank 5. But, when you're starting to play, it's easy to stall out at lower ranks, even if you are playing really solid decks with the best cards. It takes time to learn all the cards. It takes time to learn the various decks you'll face and how they work. There are some skills that aren't really super-obvious at first, like knowing when to hold back good cards instead of always playing the best card you can afford at the moment.
The people saying "it's easy" or "it just takes time" are half right. With time and practice you'll most likely get there reasonably fast. But, it's not trivial, people aren't born knowing how to do it, nor do most people shoot straight to Rank 5 on their first try.
I say this mainly so that if you run into difficulty, you won't think it's because there's something particularly wrong. That's normal, just keep playing and doing your best to learn.
For me this season was as grindy as I can remember in a long time. I only reached rank 5 yesterday whereas I usually reach rank 2 or 3 in the first two weeks. This season I didn't find myself getting into a groove with any of the decks I was trying -- I wasn't really loving/enjoying playing any of the meta decks. A lot of stalls and back and forths trying out "new" decks. I finally pulled from rank 7 to rank 5 with a warlock demon zoo deck. It was probably one of the more enjoyable decks I piloted this season and I will likely play it the remaining days to advance toward golden hero. I definitely recommend finding a meta deck you enjoy, it helps.
Hey everyone, thanks for answering to this thread. I've got great neewws!! I've reached Rank 5 today! Evolve Shaman did the trick. I ended up having a 75% winrate with 27 wins and 9 losses.

Congrats. Evolve Shaman worked extremely well in the post-Druid nerf meta for me also.

It's not hard at all you just need to have some free time. If you want to reach legend you need a lot of free time though

It's fairly easy. Just don't stress out about it. You will get there. Rank 5 to legend is the real challenge.

jst Play the deck u feel the most,
i myself got from r15 to rank 4 with exodia mage and mill rogue in like 2 days even against all the aggro,
if i found myself hard to win a game against certain decks, i only Change some Cards from the deck but didnt Change the whole purpose of the deck.
because those 2 decks really fit myself !
EXODIA OBLITERATE!!!!!!!!
It's not hard. Just need to put in the games.
I went 10-5 this season with Hunter. My tech against Priests was Cat Tricks.

Rank 5 is extremely easy to reach nowadays since the Safetynets .
You just need to play a meta deck for a few days .
