In the current meta this card isn't necessarily overpowered, but objectively it is. Sure this card has the combo tag, but lets be real its a 5 Mana "Combo" fuck any minion in the ass. This card generates way too much value on average, and with Blizzard announcing that they are going to be printing more Late Game minions in future sets(Which is why Hex was nerfed, Vilespine Slayer will get out of hand.
I really have to disagree with this... Yes, Vilespine Slayer is powerful, but how can you consider that more powerful than Hex or Firelands Portal?
For 4 mana, after the nerf, Hex will completely bypass both Deathrattle effects, as well as removing the threat as a valid target for resurrection spells, like Eternal Servitude. There is no overload cost, no restrictions like Combo, and it's downside apart from being a spell is a typically trivial 0/1 Taunt Beast token. Sure, because it's a spell Hex is weaker to Secrets, but of the 4 that interact with it only 2 really need to be played around, and both from the same class.
In some ways, Firelands Portal is weaker than Vilespine Slayer, but it is much more flexible. Firelands can target face for the win, can get you a better Minion (or worse, but it feels RNG that gives you a card is weighted positive, either by number of available cards or by intention), and again is not restricted by Combo. In a perfect game, Turn 5 Firelands Portal could potentially be lethal:
Turn 1: Mana Wurm (1/3). Turn 2: Frost Bolt for 3 (Wurm 2/3), Attack with Wurm for 2 (5 total). Turn 3: Coin (Wurm 3/3) -> Fireball for 6 (11, Wurm 4/3), Attack with Wurm for 4 (15 total). Turn 4: Fireball for 6 (21, Wurm 5/3), If the Wurm has survived attack for 5 (26). Turn 5: If the Wurm attacked or the opponent healed for 6 or less, Firelands is lethal, if not Firelands has a chance to summon Doomguard or Leeroy for lethal.
I agree that Shadowreaper and Raza don't qualify as overpowered on their own, but together they are an absolutely broken combo that allows priests to do what it does best (survive situations that no other class would be able to), but then the combo lets them easily pull a win out of their ass. No other class in the game would get a card like Raza, but Blizzard/Brode love their Priest. He should either make your Hero power cost 1 less (and even allow it to stack with cards like Maiden of the Lake, or be a more powerful version of Maiden where it lets your Hero power cost 0 while it is on the board. There are plenty of times cards that were relatively fine on their own have been nerfed because of interactions with other not-broken-on-their-own cards, seemingly mostly to Rogue (I'm looking at Blade Flurry, which got nerfed due to a card that was rotating out of standard).
Yes, the DK+Raza Combo is very pwoerful, but this is a list of single cards.
So if there was a card called "Prepare to Win" and another card called "Win" that won you the game if you'd played "Prepare to Win", neither would be problematic because they're just single cards? Wow...
Skulking Geist is a counter to Jade Idol, but more often than not, it doesn't have a place in most decks. The only decks that makes good use of it are Control Warlock and Control Mage, yet playing it doesn't guarantee you will win the game, as usually the Jades have already gotten out of control by the time you get to play the Geist. That being said, you will probably run only one in your deck and it's useless against all other decks, except Silence Priest.
Jade Idol is rotating out, but yes, it is a toxic and irritating card. Personally I'll be very happy once Jade Druid becomes a Wild deck.
Fam, I bet I'm older than you. You have a vast collection. This tells me you have the experience to know that Jade needs a nerf. Spreading Plague needs a nerf. Don't tell me to use tech cards when you don't either. Yea, I play around secrets, Jades, but thats not possible every time. Blizzard doesn't provide the tools needed to deal with these problems. Jade is too versatile, adaptable. It can control aggro now even better, tempo rogue is crushed with ONE CARD. Turn 6 spreading plague and ba-bam, outta here, and you can play 2. You've also played Jade Druid, and assumig your good, I think you should know that its pretty hard to lose when you mulligan into a Jade Idol.
What's the problem with my attitude? I gave my opinion and you're the one shooting back at me, calling me bad and everything. I've not payed a single penny on this game, so I give my perspective from an F2P. Now you've certainly spent some money so you've got your own opinion. Not everyone agrees with your and no need to diss the community for that.
My personal 5 for potential shenanigans in future Standard.
1: Shadowstep: Between Quest Rogue in the past and Keleseth rogue now I honestly think that Shadowstep is the card most limiting future design. Which is a shame because I personally really like the self bounce mechanic.
2: Patches the Pirate: This is another one limiting how many aggro cards Blizz can realistically make. While it was fun at first (for like a week) I personally can't wait for him to be out of standard.
3: Raza the Chained/Shadowreaper Anduin: I put these together but I think Raza is the main offender. I think Raza/Shadowreaper is also one to have the largest impact on Wild of the ones I have listed too.
4: Ice Block: It's had it's fun but time for the HoF. While I love freeze mage it is a super annoying deck to play against and is often time infuriating.
5: Reno Jackson: Yeah yeah not standard but seriously this guy is just going to keep getting more and more OP the more sets go on.
Hey we've come to an agreement. I'm an f2p, and probably stay that way. But, I've got a solid 2 year's of experience, which is more than enough to justify my statements. I've bought Karazhan with gold, went 8 and 3 in heroic brawl... etc.
I have enough dust to create the decks I need. Now the innervate nerf totally killed token druid, but the jade druid I play right now isn't effected. Drawing into Jade idol turn 1 IS AMAZING. I don't know what your talking about. Mulligan into a 10 cost card for turn 1 isn't good. Jade Blossom is good, totally agree on you with that. Getting two Jade Idols is even better since you can add an extra three and get a 1/1 on the board. Jade usually had a hard time to start.
Your final point was that you don't have problems with cancerous strategies. Cool, you've probably played for longer than I have then, but as I said before, I'm talking with the perspective of an F2P trying to hit legend. Not many tech cards fit into the meta decks now. You have to carry multiple, draw them, play them at right times, its a big hassle. I actually tried adding in eater of secrets and skulking geist into my Tempo Rogue and Razakus and you can tell how about that went. You have the money and time to do all these things, but most of the community don't.
Spreading Plague does need a nerf. With all the aggro decks going around, I've actually seen some Zoolocks, spreading plague denies them. By turn 6, aggro decks own the board. You are from 5-15 hp, and will die in 1-2 turns. Now Evolve Shaman's got a way around this, but Rogue doesn't, or Zoolock. Either you destroy the whole board or you don't. Vanish is a no. DOOOOOOM is ok, but no. You can see where I'm getting here. The mere change of 1 mana is pretty big, but not enough. I bet you've bought Karazhan and got the warrior similar card. Now that's a horrible card. 1/1 taunts that fill your board might save you for a turn, but not for multiple.
Look, I read through my other posts, and maybe I was pissed of a game I played with a Druid so I was a little ignorant but I still feel like my list is good. Cool to see another pov though. Counter if you want.
while i'm no expert, Im pretty sure that jade blossom is the best card to have in opening hand, but jade idol is pretty kick a** as well. I cant imagine ultimate is good to keep against anything but priest, even with ramp u wont live to ultimate against tempo rogue or midrange hunter.
Ice Block really isn't a problem if your opponent would be just limited to a maximum of 2 of these. The problem is that there are a lot of Mage cards that can let you 'discover' it multiple times. That's really where the problem lies IMO.
1. shadow reaper anduin. It is far to strong, as evidenced by it being in pretty much every priest list, even non-raza, because of the AOE and burst potential.
2. jade idol. It doesn't need to be strong for it to be broken for the game. Jade druid is right now not popular, so it isnt getting any hate, but it wasnt popular at all in un-goro, but came back with vengence in KOFT. I fully expect the jade idol to f up standard at some point in the next expansion, and definitely it will have its time to shine as the wild cancer.
3. patches. The fact that he has made his way into every single aggro deck speaks to his power level. However, this is not a game-breaking card. Just a problematically strong one.
4. lyra....... i mean, what was blizzard thinking? I think of it as a 5 mana antonidias, which is clearly too strong.
5. all tech cards, and more specifically golakka crawler. I always seem to be teched against accidentally, much to my salt. Back in un-goro, I played a totally fun, totally original n'zoth hemet warrior that farmed midrange hunter like a charm. I ran three pirates in this deck; double first mate and patches. And whenever I lost because one of those was eaten by a crab i was infuriated. The pirates were mostly for jebait value, and because it traded with T1 alleycat and set me in an almost unloseable position if I drew it on T1. But when I was hit with the tech for the most aggressive deck out there, playing a n'zoth deck, i flipped out. And this is why I hate all tech cards.
Remember when everyone was saying Keleseth and the princes were complete trash?

Meh i don't think raza is too problematic, they usually don't kill you before turn 10
at least you get to play some of your deck
Crackling razormaw, now that i really think about it, is a really bad card for the game.
