This is my first time posting here and I'm looking for some help in how to stay motivated and maybe some ideas how to react on certain deck archetypes.
To my person: I've been playing Hearthstone since about late summer last year and really love it, especially this new expansion. Until MSOG I mostly played Hunter, but as we all know, it wasn't that good after that.
This season I started laddering with an elemental shaman and climbed to rank 5 without too much effort, but got kinda stuck there. So I turned to my old favorite class and built myself an midrange hunter, which worked surprisingly well and I climbed to rank 2 this weekend.
Unfortunately I had some really bad losing streak yesterday evening (literally lost 10 in a row at some point) and fell all the way down to 5 again. This is the first time I had chances to reach legend so this was a huge bummer. In retrospective I see now that I lost some of these games yesterday due to rage and frustration, and wanted to come here for help.
What do you do to keep motivated after lose some games, be it bad luck or personal misplays?
I now know switching decks mid losing was the wrong thing to do, but what about tech changes in a losing streak? I thought about bringing in The Black Knight, as seen in Sparks Hunter or some Golakka Crawlers against the ever present warriors.
Any help to keep motivated and how to make the right changes is highly appreciated, as I don't have the time to grind hard to legend this month due to work & studies.
So to begin with, when you start losing streak stop playing and continue after 1-2 hours. Also check the net for new decklists. Anti-pirate cards are good and try to trade when you lose the board. Don't go wide in board cause of Brawls with taunt Warrior. That was my advice. Hope I helped.
play and create fun decks and interesting decks and take the game in a casual way by not caring about it and realise that defeat makes part of the game you cant win all
Now i'm posting something subjective, dunno if it helps.
But i realised that for hardcore climbing, using my preferred/homebrew decks puts me under unbearable pressure. Performance expectations that prevents me from grinding, even if winrate is positive.
Now this is very psychological and i am probably a psycopath, but in addition to others' suggestions, i would add to try some deck that fits your style, but without it somehow feeling *your deck*.
When I'm grinding lots of games of Hearthstone, I like listening to music. For me it can be something upbeat like rock or metal to keep me excited or it can be something more mellow, depends on my mood. It's also fun to skype/discord (or play irl) with a friend who is also laddering. You can both debate about the right play to make and your losses will feel less shitty. As others have mentioned, stop playing if you are on a bad losing streak.
I'd also recommend recording your stats. If you play a ton of games, the frustrating matches that you lost are going to stand out more than the games you one. At the end of the day, if you can say "wow, I won 10 games and lost 5, cool a 66% win rate", you are going to feel a lot better about the grind.
I hear a lot that Physical exercise helps prevent you from 'burning out', I know a lot of Magic players that when they're at big events, if they have a fast game, or have enough time left in the round they'll go for a walk, away from the crowds stretch the legs and come back. I find it's helpful to move away from the game for a moment, and recharge, I'll normally walk up the street and get food. I'm lazy like that
Taking a break to drink or exercise is something I will try for sure.
RavenSun, I know what you're talking about and feel the same, but with midrange hunter there is not so much I can do about it - most cards are in pretty much every deck and the rest just gets adapted to the metal. Still helps seeing other people suceed with the same/very similar deck though.
I would love to track my stats but to be honest, I spend at least half my time playing on my gfs couch with my tablet^^
Is there an app for that maybe?
Anyway, thanks to all of you for the quick answers.

Well most trackers work by reading the in game log/ using screen recognition. I don't think there is an app currently able to do that.
I use HS Tracker (its on PC and Mac) and I really like it. The guy who made it does frequent updates. If you can track the remaining cards in your deck, it's a lot easier to play to your outs.
If you are at a floor: build a crazy deck and just have fun for a bit; may even win you some games. Or, take a crazy deck into casual. It breaks the 'ladder anxiety,' and, at least for me, lets me loosen up before tackling the ladder goal again. Spell/Thief/Yogg Rogue is my go to, but find cards you've wanted to play and toss em in and see what happens.
What kind of tablet do you have? Unfortunately iPads can't run overlays, but I've been using Trackstone's iOS widget and it wasn't too painful. Android I think actually has legitimate overlays and trackers, but I don't know any of the names.
Personally for me I tend to avoid tilt from a loss by stopping and thinking about what I could have done that game and if there were better decisions (focusing on outcome is pointless, but sometimes you can pinpoint a line you took that could have been better), and then I consider my opponent's hand and plays and determine if I just got streamrolled because they drew the nuts. For example, this weekend I ran into two Quest Rogues that managed to complete their quest very quickly AND have the Prep to play the Quest quickly and that was a bit vexing. Stopping and thinking about it though, I also had very slow hands in those games as Taunt Warrior and it's an unfavored matchup in general... so I just wrote it off and kept playing.
After losing a rank, if I keep losing I'll just call it good for awhile. It's a different kind of tilt where you realize you really just start feeling a little desperate to win, and whenever that happens to me I know I personally get far too nervous to play calmly. For longer grinds I can generally just ignore the ranks and stars and if I know the deck is good and I'm playing well, I know I'll be able to push through eventually.
Personally I think you're best making the push either with someone spectating and sitting in Skype with you (I had a buddy spectate me over the weekend while we BS'ed and you can laugh off losses so much easier in that situation). The second best is getting a glass of water, putting on whatever music just makes you happy, and hopping into every game just playing to win that match; when the game is done, record the game in your tracker if it's not automatic, and hit the "Play" button. For the most part just have fun, and if you make Legend it's just a happy byproduct; unless you're trying to qualify for Top 200 and get into HCT, just play to improve and have fun and you'll eventually get there.

Hey guys, I'm happy to let you know I finally made it :)
Shoutout to all of you who supported me and thank you for your tips. I sticked to it, especially the breaks when losing to much, and it did actually help. The last bit was a hell of a grind and I wasn't able to push it through with my hunter but in the end it took me just one full day off work to claw myself back up from Rank 4.
I am sceptical though if I will ever put in so much effort again, the next time it'll have to happen on its own. After all, I can't get that cardback another time^^
I just autoconcede against Mage. Makes the game much more bearable.
Mage really hasn't been that annoying for me, but I haven't played against any Quest Mages in a long time. The clown fiesta is a little annoying, but generally they've been good games against Tempo or Control lists.

I deeply suggest trying another game. And No not another card game I mean a totally different game to HS all together. If you don't have space for more games on your tablet, or PC. Than I suggest maybe just switching to something else, Watch some TV, read a book, draw for a bit. The last two are good because they tend to (at least for me) keep my brain flowing so I can slide back into the game if I feel up to it. Regular breaks after loosing tend to help prevent too much stress. I've had anger issues in the past where I would actually punch my poor monitor so I know from experience that the game can just grind out your patience. SO I highly recommend quitting if you feel any sort of anger: Remember HS is just a game, its supposed to be something done for fun. If you stop having fun than you should stop playing HS for a while. Simple as that.
what the fuck why'd my post get deleted. Apparently talking about smoking bongs is worse than the other guy making topics about "fuck this game and forum and Ben brode etc"
smoke weed bro, I play 10x better stoned

just relax after 3 loses in a row
do some exercises, drink tea and move on after rest

You can do that after having reached your goal.
Stop playing after 2-3 losses in a row. Come back in a couple of hours or next day with fresh mind and better attitude.
If not this month, you should reach your goal next season. Start at the beginning of the season at slower pace, without hurrying much.
