So I am a Priest player. I play other classes, but I may as well be Zetalot.
After the latest announcements for classic rotation and nerfs, I'm very excited. Let me tell you why
Azure Drake is one of Priests most dreaded enemies, very hard to remove and Dragonfire Potion misses it
Miracle Rogue destroys Priest, so Conceal can fuck right off
Rag and Sylv, eh we actually used these cards a lot but they always felt better for other classes, I personally couldn't care less as we can't use them in this meta anyway
Freeze Mage also destroys Priest because we just can't out-burst them
And now I can finally Potion of Madness Patches into STB, BUAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Yeah bro, Priest is gonna be awesome, gg wp ez f2p btw mercy's pistol.
Highlander ("Reno") Priest will survive, most likely. Priest is one of the few Reno style decks that has plenty of heal to compensate for losing Reno, Raza makes the deck better than RenoMage or RenoLock (without Reno), but surviving is different from being the top deck. I doubt Priest will ever be Shaman levels of broken.
I do foresee the Reno archetype seeing plenty of experimentation attempts since the class is so well suited to being the premier control deck facilitator, but I don't think we can really predict whether or not Priest will maintain or increase its power level until we start seeing new card reveals, bare minimum.
Considering rotation in a vacuum with no additional cards risks putting Priest somewhere between Druid (one deck specifically targeted at killing anti-meta decks) and Hunter (effectively dead class) in terms of viability.
Ok, mid dragon priest is death, but the 5/6 is good enough to be viable in many other decks. He is not Mysterious Challenger. The 3/4 is so fucking op too. And, yeah, Kazakus.
Dragon Priest is essentially dead (in Standard) come the new expansion, unless it brings significant early Dragon synergy. The deck cannot survive on Drakonid Operative alone. And this is coming from a Dragon Priest (former Midrange Hunter) player who doesn't want to have to find yet another class to call home.
Let's not forget that with key taunt dragons in the deck gone, it essentially means hunters are now favored against dragons priests if there are still around. Taunt + health buff was usually how dragon priests kept them at bay.
I seriously don't understand all the hate for Priest. It has consistently been in the worst tier of the game since public release, and in its current iteration, is tier 2 at the very best. It is my favorite class, but I will not fool myself in saying that Priest will be top tier or even relevant. Here are a few reasons why:
1. Loss of Dragon Support. Blackwing Corruptor, Wyrmrest Agent, Twilight Guardian are all integral parts of the current midrange Dragon engine. Losing these cards along with a few other means that the most prevalent Priest deck will no longer be viable.
2. Loss of Control/Value tools. Excavated Evil, Entomb, Museum Curator are all tools from League of Explorers that were a must include in more control style builds.
3. The relevance of Druid. Jade/Ramp/Maly Druid have always been difficult matchups for Priest. Initially, it was thought that the Dragon Priest vs Jade Druid matchup was favored for the Priest. However, the lack of burst along with the inability to generate high level threats made the matchup swing slightly in favor for the Druid. Control Priest does not nearly have the value to compete with infinite Jade Idols, and will need to run either a finishing combo or get lucky in order to win those longer games.
I used to play exclusively priest up until WOG and yet, I haven't bothered to even try highlander priest. From just looking at the MSG cards, you could see that control priest still wouldn't be particularly good. Where warlock and mage have stand alone control tools and mechanics that synergize with Reno, priest has control tools that are either weak or require two+ cards synergizing together. You'd have to either run the pyro/auchenai packages with one-ofs, which would be terribly awkward and inconsistent, or use only excavated evil (rotating out) and dragonfire, which wouldn't be enough board clears. Priest also has no synergy with Reno or Kazakus
Meanwhile, dragon priest in MSG isn't even good. Just take a look at how many priests were in the NA HCT this week. Once BRM rotates out, Talonpriest will have nothing to buff. What will priest do? Run huge toad? We all know that Blizzard would never give priest a good 2 drop
Jade decks are also a thing but that's honestly the least of your concerns
tldr; maybe some bad matchups are rotating out but so is dragon priest itself. Highlander priest is just innately terrible

I take it you've never been on the receiving end of Thoughtsteal, Cabal Shadow Priest, Entomb or plethora of other "imma steal ur shit, lolz!" shenanigans? It feels quite similar as losing to Yogg-Saron's RNG. Priest hate rarely has anything to do with Priest's overall strenght, but rather their infuriating "Value tools".
do you have a problem with thoughtsteal, cabal shadow priest, and entomb?

Not any worse than Rogues both stealing your stuff and/or throwing it back in your face forcing you to waste more mana on the same thing again, then spending what can feel like 25min's cycling card while you sit there twiddling your thumbs wondering how much burst they're eventually going to bash you for - Or mages who seem to have a spell to answer every move, making you over ponder on whether or not you should even attack with this minion, and if not, they'll wipe it off the board turn 7 either way then freeze you and deliver 20+ damage in one turn - much interactive classes ... give me priest anyday over them

And Dragon Priest without Blackwing Corruptor, Twilight Guardian, Twilight Whelp, Blackwing Technician is not a deck. It's going to be dead unless it gets good early game dragon synergy.
So yeah. Priest might be good, but it won't be the best.
Priest will be trash tier soon enough, and I can't wait for that :)
"priest will reign supreme..."
"in wild"
Overly optimistic. Dragon Priest is losing Blackwing Corruptor, Twilight Guardian, Twilight Whelp, Blackwing Technician, and Wyrmrest Agent. The deck is effectively dead. Reno Priest lists will not be able to opt-into the dragon tribal skeleton due to the aforementioned rotation. They're also losing Brann Bronzebeard, Reno Jackson, Entomb, and Justicar Trueheart.
I do foresee the Reno archetype seeing plenty of experimentation attempts since the class is so well suited to being the premier control deck facilitator, but I don't think we can really predict whether or not Priest will maintain or increase its power level until we start seeing new card reveals, bare minimum.

I aggre with u.

Priest is really ok now.
You all forgot about the most hyped card for priest

Forgive me, friend. I have failed.
all depends on new cards, with aggro being more "manageable" , and meta slows down a bit, jade druid might be new concern...

I remember the last time Priest had a good deck... December 2016

Say hello to my friends Cairne Bloodhoof and Sunwalker.
Good luck with that!
My magic will tear you apart!
I hate priest because he steals my cards, minions. But this steal mechanic is so annoying. Rogue gets any random card, not from your deck.
Drakonid Operative, Potion of Madness I hate this cards.
One day this game will stop existing. I can't wait.
