i started to say "thanks" at the end of every match (after lethal) to express how i apreciate my enemy for having time to do battle with me, i hope it does not trigger then, lol.
I threaten when landing lethal but that's about it (just for fun, it's kinda meaningless to me). If I get steamrolled by an aggro deck and they toss out well-played then I think that's kinda BM. There's nothing well played about what they did 100% of the time.
If an aggro player says Well Played or Thank you after they kicked my ass I just start shouting and call them everything. Because it's 100% BM
I think you're looking too far into it. I usually take emotes at face value and if they persist with the same emote then I take it as BM. After all, Why would hearthstone implement 6 different emotes if they are all to be taken as the same offensive BM? Its all subjective and I advise that you take it a little less negatively and it will make the game more fun for you.
From my perspective, why do you need to say anything at all? The only reason why most people want to interact with their opponent is to tell them that they're garbage. To me, that's the only reason why anyone says anything to me.
Yes i see it to and it,s just bad manners. They are so satisfied if they smorc u down in 5 turns. It,s a bit annoying, but let them think they are special. They are just trolls.
BM through emotes does exist. IT really pisses me off when someone uses his emotes ironically. Especially Anduin's Wow is just so ironic. When someone spams wow in a match on my every move breaks my nerves. What I also hate much more is a thank you after I am about to get my ass kicked. I mean come on, you just pulled your OTK combo, you are telling me thank you? Fuck you then.
The only cases that it's not BM is at the start when someone says Greetings. It's BM though if you don't answer. I mean he said hello. Why not answer? And it's also totally ok that when you lose to say Well Plaid to your opponent. Sometimes if I win and it was a great game I will also say well plaid. I don't think it can be misunderstanded. But if I win a pirate warrior I won't say well played, because it was a shitty game.
Even at the start it can be bm. Piratewarriors for example are like that at the start. Offcorse not everybody is just a anoying douchebag, but yes the most players i have seen last days are just like that.
You got a point, but it's ofcourse always what the opponent thinks himself. I started this game with a polite well played at the end (like in tennis) but when I found out that most people take offense I just stopped altogether with emotes. The only thing is after a really long game, if someone says well played, i reply well played. Pretty sure that's not intended offensively.
If YOU think they mean something specific, it may still be a false assumption and you never truly get to know. For example some people say well played just to tilt others while some say that to say GG. You may assume one or another, and the only difference is either YOU tilt YOURSELF assuming they BM'd or you don't.
I don't think it's fair to say every emote is BM regardless of circumstance. I would agree that every emote has the potential for BM but it really depends on the situation.
The only emote that I think is 100% BM is Thank You!
It has no real purpose. If some says greetings or well played you say the same back.
I can't think of a single time saying thank you is not going to come across as being BM. Although i'm having a hard time thinking of a good replacement?
Yesterday I was playing against a paladin who at turn 6 filled the board with murlocs, and on turn 8 dropped is Tirion. He was spamming the whole time Well met, well played and thank you. If I had a way to tell him to piss off I would. That's completely arrogant and impolite. 100% BM. I will only say Greetings at the start, and I like it when someone says to me,too and well played at the if i lose to a match that was enjoyable, not against aggro though. WP against the winner makes them feel nice and I like to do it
No, i think you're overreacting. Using the emotes enables underlining a funny or unexpected situation as well. I use them often and I don't mean to BM anyone. ;)

Maybe just auto-mute if emotes annoy you?
If only "auto-mute emotes" was an option in this game, that would be a nice feature.
I don't care about any emotes I get. Well, I do enjoy an honest "Well played" from my opponent when I win and reply with "Well played" too, but that's about it.
Though I admit that I can get quite toxic when I lose in arena to guys that obviously do not play optimal, but win because of a ridiculous deck, and after the third Flamestrike, I tend to spam Threaten. No good sportmanship, true. But well, I'm just being honest here.
I have noticed an increase in BM these days. Lots of my opponents spam thank you or well played when they get their combo, when they are about to win or when they get the advantage. It irritates me a lot
Without even a simple "Greetings", I may as well be playing against bots, and sometimes we are. I'll always give someone the benefit of the doubt unless they're emoting constantly or playing aggro.
Seeing the number of threads regarding emotes and BM's, I am actually more inclined to be as disrespectful as possible from now on. This is actually a benefit to me. I want to put you on tilt, I want you to make bad decisions, and shit... if anything I want you to concede as quickly as possible.
My absolute favorite exercise in BM is on my turn, I have lethal, my opponent knows I have lethal, and then just roping and spamming 'well played'. I want you to concede. I want you to stick that sword in your gut and disembowel yourself. Should you so choose to take a honorable death... I will rope until the very last second.
I rope and play a defensive/stalling strategy the instant I get one BM. Can't help it. Every once in awhile I'll get a concede from a control deck that will likely beat me, but they won't spend the time. Those are the best. This might not be healthy.

If an emote affects you in any way, other than perhaps annoyance at emote spam, you are astoundingly psychologically weak.

I emote the shit out of pirate warriors when I beat them :D
if you have lethal and they emote (only once) "well played" as they lose...do you see that as BM?
if so, you're made of salt.

I usually only bm when my opponent has been spamming me with emotes all game and later I gain the winning position. I'm a vengeful person, I know.
I dont mind people BMing as long as they win without using Meta Cancer that is already heavily favored to win.
