Control decks are in a decent spot right now. The nerfs slowed the meta down just a little, yet enough to actually make control viable while not overpowered.
Control Warrior was viable already before the nerfs, and now Murloc Paladin and Renolock are in a much better position as well, with many other control decks also seeing some play (Reno Mage, Priest).
I've been playing this Renolock list myself this season:
priest is unplayable, current control warrior is just too boring and autolose against midrange hunter, reno decks are just weak, only viable control paladin deck is anyfin, i really miss handlock...
Bec. there are to many midrange deck, control is kinda in a hard position. Control counter aggro but after the nerf its even more midrange so yeah. But control warrior is in a kinda good position bec the midrange shaman is a little to aggro
normal control warrior, murloc paladin is viable control deck
or greedy coin flip deck.very popular in low rank or gimmick and fun deck by legend player.. many player just put 20 late games legendary in deck and hope they draw 10 removal in the deck to stall the games. then drop 1 every legendary every turn. enemy just concede because cannot handle legendary every turn.
Priest is a lot more playable now tbh, i've been winning games with meme silence Dragon priest post the shamman nerfs because i am able to setup my stuff without being in a do something or die situation at turn 4
Gotta throw in a plug for Control Shaman, cheap board clears, decent heals, and strong removal. Throw in Justicar Trueheart and you can hoard spell damage totems for offense, or taunts on defense. Is it viable? Hell if I know, that's for competitive players to decide, but it's fun to play.
This x 10
Control shaman beats up on all the different shaman decks real well. Also the Renolock decks that have built in burst of 20 are very capable of handling pretty much any deck.
Since in WoG and Kara there were around 0 cards that helped control and every other viable cards is tempo/aggro, it's no wonder that control isn't exactly viable.
Let's say: a 4 mana 2/3 taunt doesn't really make the cut, but is sadly one of the most viable cards control has.
Tempo/aggro got all replacements for their lost cards, control didn't, because some crazy nut at blizzard thinks that control is way too strong. So where's the replacement for Zombie Chow, where's the replacement of Deathlord and where the hell is the fricking replacement for Sludge Belcher?
Yes, many decks played them and they were strong and somehow they think they are overpowered. But they were only overpowered because this are the only cards for control that worked. Blizzard do everything for aggro, but nothing for control. So control MIGHT get 1-2 cards that will rotate out in standard and control will always be in the sad state as it is now, simply aggro can replace cards far more easily. Zoo got replacements on day 1, Heck, one of the strongest cards in WoG was Darkshire Councilman. And the strongest cards control got was a 4 mana 2/3 with taunt that summons a 2/2 WITHOUT taunt. Even a 5 year old could have produced better cards, that shows the quality of the dev-team sadly.
Control needs some strong cards too, some neutral ones at best to let as many control-classes as possible benefit from it. Unconditional and without a malus for having taunt or being neutral. But as long as it is in their mind that they don't want to create another Sludge Belcher and giving us some strong cards that we can use, instead throwing cards for aggro/tempo as many as possible, and waste their time to create unplayable cards, because they are "so good for the game" like ben brode's marketing speech about purify.
I have a couple of control warrior decks that I run in standard sometimes but my WR with them is abyssmal.
Usually I mulligan for early game removal to keep the board clear, and I basically just try to remove any threat the opponent plays as quickly as possible. I assume this is the wrong strategy, since I wind up losing most of the time. Any suggestions?

Hearthstone: A game where great victories are won by demonstrating exceptional skill, and losses are suffered due to bad RNG!
Priest is definitely playable. Priest of the feast is a better 4 drop than shifting shade and subbing this card alone makes NZoth priest stronger than it was during old gods. Shadow madness is another card that is extremely useful vs the current meta and really helps vs zoo lock and hunters. Try it yourself. Don't listen to what everyone says about priest on here. With the latest nerfs and decline of aggro shaman, priest is in a better spot.
Res priest in the hands of a good player is an absolute nightmare to deal with. So much removal, so much healing... It's very difficult to beat them with an aggro deck.
I once played a game as res priest where the first minion I played was Ragnaros. I then resurrected him 3x. I had 3 rags on the board. It was insane.
Of course that's not typical, but that's the kind of mayhem res priest is capable of. I'm not even good with that deck, a really good player will have you so salty you can brine a chicken.

Midrange is definitely ruling the meta right now, and of course control v. midrange is always a bad match up for control. You'll burn all your removal in the early game and in the late game, where you're normally expecting them to run out of threats to play, they overwhelm you, and you find yourself wishing you saved that execute or that brawl.

Priest is as bad as it was before. It was the worst class before, it's the worst class now. Playable? Sure. If you don't mind losing a lot.
lol, I am playing ress priest and i am wrecking aggro decks, also control is good, playing with ysera, medivh, mind control, that helps a lot vs control, vs aggro I have holy nova, ex evil shadow madness and priest od the feast is mvp vs aggro decks, give it a try, its fun, sometimes you can pull concede combos t3 bladmaste, t4 2x ressurect and gg
Ysera is crazy in the late game. She's so hard to remove, and most of the time you've used up your removal cards by the time she is played.

CW is a diffcult deck to pilot, you have to have understanding about the other deck and the current meta to make a correct decision. Sometimes best action is just tank up. You want to save ur execute and slam for biggest threat but sometimes you use it on a 2-1 knife juggler. Or vs zoo you want to be greedy with ur brawl but vs midrange deck you can brawl earlier. Small decision like that make you a good CW player or not. Or I used to auto lose vs control priest or renolock so I decided to play control priest and renolock myself for a while. After that, I comeback to my belove CW and my winrate vs these two deck improve a LOT. So I think to be good CW player, you have to be pretty good with a lot of other decks aswell.
Im reading about handlock everywhere these days. People eat too much memberberries. Meta will change and we will never get 7 decks that can compete equally (especially on ladder). There will be always dominating one (lets just hope it is not literally one). I can agree that control warrior is boring to play and to play against. However this is just how I feel about it, maybe some people enjoy hitting hero power.
Where's the N'zoth Paladin love? Having loads of success with it right now. You've got a 4 mana board clear in equality+pyromancer, enough big minions to nullify any priest deck and you can cripple shaman with aldor and against against their overload minions. Then theres plenty of ways to regen health too.
There's nothing wrong with N'Zoth Paladin as such, it performs fine right now. Its main issue is that Murloc Paladin seems to be slightly stronger.
People say that is best meta ever (what I do not agree), because all classes has at least one deck to play ladder. Like I said I have tried a lot of control decks, and all sucks, I totally agree with, only Warrior can play a control deck.

priest heavy depend on starting hand. lack of reliable card draw. draw good unstoppable or auto loses around turn 5-turn 6.
but dragon & ressu priest can counter control warrior pretty well

besides control warrior - no
yet people still say its best meta ever
Is freeze mage not considered control or something?
I'm getting 70% winrate (currently rank 3 still climbing) with Reno Mage, its beating shamans, other controls, only weak against secret hunter, feel free to try it (http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/652812-70-winrate-reno-mage-70-games)
Reno! Get rich or die trying.
We're gonna be rich!
