Seriously... another patch and nothing regarding the excess coin issue? I get that they don't see Mercenaries as a priority, but can it really be that far into the "Whatever, we don't care" column?
What are the possible challenges? Be as conservative as you want (ex. excess coins can purchase skins and after that be traded at 100-1 for same rarity coins on other mercs), but do SOMETHING. The longer it is left the less likely they are to do anything because those with 20k coins for Millhouse aren't going away and the coins keep comin!
The reason is exactly what you would suspect: They never agreed on a solution for the excess coin issue and pushed the product anyway. If they had an answer up their sleeve, they would have announced it by now to possibly save the mode before it was too late. I assume the team assigned to Mercenaries must argue about this on a constant basis and at least one employee is thinking “why are we coming out with new mercs for this mode when we can’t even establish a proper economy for the coins” but obviously that poor guy has been losing every argument
What makes my ass gnaw is that I trusted Blizz. I pre-ordered the € 130 at the release. I thought the modality was a good idea and despite all the perplexities I had, because Blizz didn't explain the surplus on release, I pre-ordered. That pre-order is now worth 0 with all the excess coins. Blizz is deaf and despite all the complaints and promises of November, nothing.
Sometimes I think Blizz has to burn, they are thieves with no morals. All this mess in which they are in now (harassments and so on) they deserve it. There is no big respectful company, like Blizz, contemplating bugging his customers as part of his business. And if you buttfuck, then I hope they buttfuck you. This behaviour to fuck the customers really amazed me. I hope California fucks Blizzard for what they did, at least it will serve as a lesson.
I think the issue is that players expect an economy when the mode is a gacha game and not build around an economy.
The idea isn't that you can efficiently farm one thing and then convert to another. It's about repetitively farming and earning specific coins on different encounters, then getting frustrated by the slow progress and then buying packs/coins.
Self sufficiency is against the core principle of gacha.

I think you're missing the point. It's about being able to do something, ANYTHING, with what are currently completely useless coins.
When you open ANY other pack in Hearthstone.. packs that cost the same amount of money, the same amount of gold and draws from the same pool of gold, you're guaranteed at least 40 dust.. dust that can go towards -something-. As you progress in Mercenaries, however, you steadily approach a point where each Mercenaries pack you open contains ZERO value. There is literally nothing in the pack you can use for anything.
Now sure, you can say "there are plenty of gacha games where you can effectively get a blank draw". These aren't Blizzard games, though. Blizzard -had- a reputation of more player friendly loot boxes in their games and doing right by the player. It was on this reputation that they sold $130 pre-order bundles before the mode was even released. And it's on 5 months of silence after they promised they would do something about it that they're pissing that reputation away.

Every other pack isn't from a gacha mode though and those other modes are oriented on other, more "western" principles for loot boxes. Mercenaries is not.
Maybe it is a design flaw to have individual coins and they should have just gone with rarities, categories or a combination? Maybe they can change it and introduce better uses of coins, but gacha games build on the idea of having a huge pile of useless junk with a handful of high rarity chase items.
Anyway with the amounts of coins already available for those who actively play the mode, it will be hard to add anything that wouldn't be obsolete right away or render the base goal of grinding obsolete.
Blizz has to decide if to maintain his promises and to create something to use the surplus of coins, therefore allowing players to use a universal currency. Universal currency, with the surplus available in the game, will mean a drastic reduction in in-game sales for mercenaries.
Blizzard, therefore, decided to screw up all customers and its promises in order to hope to continue the in-game sales.
Anyway, players in mercenaries are constantly decreasing so much that it is questionable when Blizz will practically continue to do in-game sales for mercenaries.
When the situation will be so desperate Blizz probably will address the issue with a universal currency. At this point, anyway, people would be so angry that very few of them will be back in the game.
In conclusion, Blizz screwed his customers, people will remember. The announcement of the new mercenaries, without an explanation on how to fix past problems, was the final nail in the coffin for this mode.
Stop paying for a product that is shamelessly ripping you off. Learn your lesson.
I don't pay for it with cash, but I have purchased packs with my reward track coins (I gave up on Standard a long time ago). I guess they are still decreasing the number of coins in the world, but I honestly don't think they give it that much thought if there are no dollar signs attached.

I agree, but I also think they have just given up on it like many streamers. They'll take the engagement time and any trickle of money that comes in from it, but as soon as the first month of numbers came in, I think they flat decided to have it just be something else people can do since the money return on launch didn't meet projections. Now there's so much negativity and probably so little play that they are just keeping things active and have zero plans to do anything but the occasional merc release to try and grab a little extra cash from whales.
I just can't see how they don't realize that if they gave the mode some energy they would increase engagement exponentially.

If the lack of a coin exchange mechanic was intentional it was a huge mistake on the developer’s part. I understand what you’re saying about the typical gacha experience but Mercenaries is built into the client of a game which has an economy established for surplus cards/dust, which should be the primary point of reference as opposed to other, equally greedy gacha-style games. As it is now, Mercenaries packs seem like a rip-off in the vacuum of HS because at least regular duplicate cards can be converted to dust for crafting purposes. Instead of mimicking the practices of Genshin Impact the devs should reflect on the fact that their new game mode is lacking basic features that their IP was already known for.

Eh, this line of reasoning doesn't actually work. There are many examples of gacha games where the currencies you use to upgrade characters are generic and interchangeable, or at least a mixture of the two. Mercenaries doesn't even have a generic currency that can be used on anything, which is a core staple of gacha games. Sure, those same gacha games typically let you buy that currency if you want to, but that's beside the point.
"Most importantly of all: we didn’t get any news on a solution to Extra Coins or a dynamic, attractive PvE mode. The Hopium is currently being vacuum-sealed to make its trip underwater on April 12th, but if the deafening silence continues to echo,no amount of new toys can stop the bleeding."

Mercenaries is just a masochism simulator, boring to get your team up to par for pvp and expensive as hell.
