Yu'lon's task 17 says "block 40 damages with ....(the 2nd ability)". Does someone know how to do it?
It's a confusing task. You have to activate Yu'lon's jadefire buffet, then give it taunt with another mercenary (for example Uther─You can also use Yu'lon's third ability the next turn) and use mana barrier from Sinestra on Yu'lon during the turn the taunt is active. Enemies then need to attack into it.
Just completed task 8 from the Chi-Ji event. Ugh, never again! Probably the most nerve-wracking task ever. I only got it thanks to Blink Fox copying that ability which summons minions on your board.
All this time I thought you needed all 6 members of your team alive when entering the boss fight. I had accepted I would never complete this bounty but despite missing one member it still registered in the end. Would have saved me a lot of stress if I had understood that before.

Task 8 wasn't too bad for me - the passive heal of a nature comp is generally enough as long as you nuke down the greater fire ele ASAP, I find, but you do need to have Malf's equip powered up fully. The full beasts/dragons and full caster ones can go get stuffed, though - they felt ridiculous.
So you can do it with a dead merc, if that merc died before the boss? That's good for people to know!
Wait, task 8 is the all beasts/dragons, not the no dead merc one? That's a lot more understandable. I used three dragons for the trash and to the death mulka/krush cheese for the boss. Just had to retry for the treasures.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the nature comp. I appreciate it.
Yeah, task 8 was with the beast/dragon bounty. This one and the one with the all casters (like you said) were the worst.
I tried the Mukla/Krush combo but the one time I got "to the death" one of them got destroyed before it could get the combo off. I followed a Youtube video and went for Yu'lon/Brightwing/Blink Fox but had no success. I tried other comps but it just didn't work out. I eventually got lucky with Blink Fox.
Honestly, this task should have been the last one instead of task 8. I did have some trouble with the last two but neither of them were as bad as 8.
Despite some frustrations I do have to say it was a fun event. Breathed some new life into mercenaries for me, but it's a shame this event offers little for players who just started. It makes you feel left out.
I wasn't a fan of the pirate mercenaries but these newer ones are fun to play. I actually feel motivated to do a bit of task farming now.
The pirates sucked because there were no other pirates to synergize with prior to their introduction, and (with the exception of Cookie), they were hyper specialized to each other.
This round was much better because there were already beasts and dragons (and this actually fills some holes in overall dragon synergy) and just Chi-ji alone adds a new dimension to the game.
so Vanndar is a DPS check (you have to kill him in 5 turns) whose main gimmick is he can bench one of your mercs (and you can't replay whomever was benched the next turn). Comes with a pair of beefy blue adds, but they automatically die when he does. Had no real problem with him on normal, but haven't tried heroic yet.
Kazakus is basically "if Wrathion were a boss". Comes with a pair of dragon adds and can summon more. The big gimmick is he'll try to transform into a dragon himself, which gives him more powerful abilities and buffs the adds. Freezing him or otherwise interrupting his turn when he tries to transform seems to be the way to go.
Side note, finally got Long'xin.. 60th pack on the dot.
also, anyone else notice that the damage portion of Chi-ji's Firestorm double dips from heal power? Dunno if this is intentional or a bug.
Managed Vanndar HC with nature, primarly because Guff had celestial alignment which pulled some weight. Failed with fire - ST DPS just wasn't there, though nature has severe issues with the "75 dam reduced by each dam taken by the adds" move - fire ignores that with Geddon most of the time. Not intending to farm the blighter, since I crafted mercs needed. Timer is still 5 turns on HC.
Not tried Kaz yet on either, but sounds like you need a freeze - unfortunately I don't have an ice comp powered up fully. Doubt Balinda would be able to keep the elemental alive to freeze, even if I'd unlocked it (done most of the easier HC boss unlocks, but that one will be very tough indeed). Doesn't feel like there's enough frost casters to make a solid team, but may be wrong. I guess Lok/Jaina/Varden/Bal/Chiji [for equip]/t1 taunt? Doubt that rooting would stop a transformation, and can't think of other ideas.
Nope, no chance at getting through that trash with a frost team. The damage is just far, far too low considering the lack of healing - fire comps kill most trash T1 or 2 to compensate for the lack of heals. Frost comps lose people on T2 - be that one of the actual frost casters or the taunt you've brought in so the casters don't die. Maybe you can scrape the taunt to T3 if you're lucky. Lokholar is too random, can't nuke anyone, and so can't kill anything outright on T1 (consider that trash includes manglers and yetis, as well as high bleeds - and all heals are too fast to counteract the bleed). Compare damage output of Varden to Geddon and Jaina/Balinda to Anton and it's not there. Speed tweaks are minor in PvE.
This just feels 100% bad as a comp for PvE. Maybe just a nature or fire team with Varden in to freeze the boss?
Balinda (with frost elemental), Varden (with the equip that gives +frost every time something is frozen), Lokholar (+4 hits on hailstorm), Jaina (doesn't matter, but I think I had ice block equipped), Cookie (appetizers). The 6th was Chi-ji since I was trying to get his gear.
The idea on the run is to load up on +frost or anything that beefs up elementals. I didn't get any of the later, so Balinda's frost elemental was one-and-done and I could only prevent the transformation on the first turn. After that it was just brute frost force. Was a close shave, but if I could've gotten a 2nd turn out of the frost elemental, it likely would've been much easier.
Hmm. Any suggestions on getting the equip for Balinda for the frost ele? Even so, doesn't feel like that team can manage the HC trash 90% of the time. Doesn't feel like the damage is there, and I don't see where it'd significantly improve outside of Lokholar. Lokholar's hailstorm being random really hurts, practically guaranteeing no kills until T2 at the earliest - and I don't see how a few extra hits (equip ain't maxed for me) can get T1 kills, even without the mangle wolf+yeti packs, which are utterly brutal and will kill T1 with this team.
Could be that Jaina's IB equip is the key to the trash, just let her IB every pack and try to get the kills T2?
Feels bad brute forcing with fire, ignornig the gimmick, but managed it with a pretty standard fire team. Irked that the golem summoning spell doesn't say that it deals damage!

try Cornelius+Baron+Antonidas in opening and Varden-Jaina as backups, and of course Balinda to unlock her equipment. Go for the wolf that reduces the speed. When at least one enemy is at low enough health, Varden can freeze the whole board.
I learned this method from OldGuardian. If you need any guide about mercs, he provides excellent videos with explanation & demonstration. Kinda defeats the purpose I created this thread in the first place, but I wasn't aware of him back then :D

Did someone reach chi-ji's task 17: trigger 550 times overkill... Does this make sense? Afterall it doesn't seem to work.
This game has so many hateful bugs :( !
Its actually deal 550 damage, wording is wrong
yea prolly thats what it was, but I still have my doubts since I completed it in 1 normal battle, instantly. I was pretty confused, but hey, as long as bugs dont cause softlocks and just gives the reward, I wont complain :D
also, Xuen's I believe task 17: "deathblow 25 times" was so bugged omg I've done many testings and still couldnt figure out what causes it to progress and what makes it not count. I think I deathblow'ed around 60 enemies. I always killed all enemies with his 3rd ability and sometimes it counts all 3, sometimes it counts only 1, and sometimes none. that was a buggy mess, but still doable at least.
and btw, after being done with Chi-Ji too, now I have completed every single task there is for every single merc. that means 18*70 = 1260... oh of course, and minus 3, for the damn bugged Voljin tasks. so uh, I have completed 1257 tasks. wow that sounds crazy when I see what I did from a perspective. and only 6 mercs left to be max'ed: Niuzao, Yu'lon this dicc, Galvangar, Xuen, Chi-Ji and Long'xin. just wanted to share ^^
Heroic Drek'thar for Balinda's equipment has got to be the most difficult task ever. I don't think even the tasks during the Chi-Ji event gave me this much trouble. After two weeks of trying I finally did it, but I was on such an adrenaline rush that I can't remember exactly which moves I made. I did stack up as many fire damage and health bonuses I could on the way. I also got the +50 health bonus for Geddon.
I used Mutanus with taunt and his level 30 equipment (which prevents critical damage), Antonidas and Geddon mostly for the climb.
When I got to Drek'thar I had lost Antonidas so I went with Mutanus - Geddon - Ragnaros. After they died I brought in Diablo for the AOE attack and Balinda for AOE as well.
I don't know exactly what I did except for focusing on the left most enemy minion. After that I blindly stumbled through it. Drek'thar and one minion remained; the latter I sniped with Balinda's fire elemental.
It ended with a 1vs1 battle between Diablo (treasure book of destruction) and Drek'thar.
Anyone had issues with Jaraxxus' 10th? It says cast Fist 45 times - but I'm not getting the right credit. Pretty sure I cast it more than twice per fight for the first few. Been stuck at 8/45 for a while now, though, despite casting it lots... wait, maybe the equip breaks it? I'm pretty certain that the free fists from deathblow of Legion Burst don't count.
Nope, tested without the equip that forces it to hit the lowest HP target and it doesn't count still. Maybe it only counts if you DON'T deathblow, though that sounds ridiculous? Any assistance?
Got it. You get two credit if you cast fist with one infernal out. Don't think you get more than two per fight, but certainly get 0 for casting with no other demons.
It doesn't say recast, so I'd assumed that it would only count as 1 regardless - and counting as 0 without any copying is daft.
I got Jaraxxus' 10th today too and tried a bunch of things getting no credit before my gut told me to just flood the board with infernals, and lo and behold...
I also got Blink Fox's "reduce speed by 5 in a turn 15 times" as well and while I also completed that in two short runs, I couldn't possibly tell you what it was and wasn't actually counting.
man fck this sht they keep making the joke skins as default ones in mercs. Lokholar's default skin was also like that but thank god he is a rare so his portraits are common. but oh no Deathwing? look how they massacred my boy. I do not want these "alternative" skins as defaults.
bet they are doing this intentionally to sell portrait bundles.
after so much of negligence, the excess coins, protectionless packs, no pity timer, shitty grind system,... thats it. I hope this negligent and careless company finally go bankrupt so that game makers creates the quality stuff again.

so.. did some more testing.. not only is Firestorm double-dipping from +heal, it ALSO gains damage from +fire.
The healing Firestorm provides is: (1x rank) + heal
the damage is: (1x rank) + (2x heal) + fire
