Amusing they posted about some boss fights being too hard the same day this launched!
I dont have Diablo so been trying many comps, nothing seems to last, its the ability to clear the spawns that gets me. The best attempt i had was my first where Sam had the treasure to hit the mobs next to him. Blues just dont last long without the non crit ability.. tried holy, nature and even millhouse in desperation (1 shotted) . Tried a full green comp too
Sam seems best for it as he can tank the 200 hit and also use mirror image to help soak up the 75 damage aoe.
Any one had much luck with non diablo comps? I suspect its going to get the nerf bat soon, i dont see many people clearing this without just luck... this fight feels a bit like some of the PVE adventures where you need the right draw and luck to clear it
I'm trying a gruul next. Thinking lobbing dragonkiller shots at the drakes, pooping out big adds etc.. Problem is that getting enoug damage without just dieing is rough, and that 75 split every few turns is also rough (plus. you know, actually levelling up Gruul). Samuro just gets massacred a lot by swinging into Rend, I found - and his damage to the dragons that Rend steals? Not doubled, which is flipping stupid since they're blues. Cleaving scythe is only from elites, and is rare. Maybe if you lead with Krush/Mukla/Mut, and go for the T2 immune dino rampage [assuming you see it], finishing up with the nature nuke stuff? Nature nuke finishing with Krush rampage doesn't work, though, as not enough damage before it stops attacking. Should eat the 200 dam, though. Those adds are ridiculous. Mutanus cheese should probably work for the boss since it's 200 dam, not destroy? Not sure how you'd kill the adds, though, since they don't melee and you have to use scaly every turn.
Mirror image sounds good for the AE, but has the distinct problem of spawning a bunch of 75HP adds, which will deal a lot of damage. Not convinced that's worth it. The thing is that Diablo should be EXCELLENT for the adds - but he's obviously broken RN. Maybe Voone's AE? Tavish's explosive traps for 32? Stealing stats doesn't work because the boss' damage is stupidly high just from meleeing your team down unless you have multiple turns to stun the boss.
Completed this task (normal) with Garrosh + Tirion fight to death combo on turn2
Then I had Tavish + Samuro backup for army of 15/25 dragons
Doesn't get there on HC, I think. Cuts out before you deal enough damage, at least with krush. What were you using for the trash? Nature team is my goto for the trash, if I'm honest, as it handles almost everything - that really limits my options for clearup (as does the massive HP of the adds on HC).
What part of "To the death" means "not actually to the death" anyway? :P
Did it first try, with Xyr/Sam/Cariel start, let 2 die and when his board was full, i put Diablo, but Rend survived with 170 health or so. Next turn i put Apokalypse on Rend and killed him with Samuro (He survived the 200 Damage with A3). Glad i'm through with this.

probably the same loop escape function that actually allows the fire treasure to work without softlocking the game
I've farmed Rend probably 50 times over the last few days grinding Edwin coins.
As some others have posted, Diablo and Cairne are the optimal Rend finisher. If Rend has a board full of Dragonkin, Fire Stomp will go off seven times, and none of their moves are faster than Cairne's Endurance Aura.
My strategy is to use Geddon, Rag, Tony to start off, with Cairne, Diablo, and either something I'm leveling or Edwin for a chance at extra coins behind them.
What you do first turn is fireball with Tony to start the combo, Use Geddon's AOE, and then use Die Insects on Rag, because it's his highest damage move and it doesn't matter what you hit, unless they have a potato, in which case you hit that with everything. Usually, enemies target your lowest health Merc which will probably be Rag. He should survive turn 1.
Turn 2, Rend will put his instakill on Geddon. This is fine. Just hit them with the same combo, except you may want to use Rag's faster move, just to make sure it goes off before he dies. Usually, Rag and Geddon will both die this turn, which fills the board, and gives you room to bring in Cairne and Diablo, and then you can just Aura+Stomp to win.
If only one thing dies turn 2, you may want to bring in whatever your sixth thing is, and try to set up two slots on turn 3, just to be safe.
The great thing about this lineup is that Rag+Geddon+Tony are also the best farming composition, and can clear most packs in the bounty in one turn, so this farms MUCH faster than nature or holy or shadow comps. I can run this in about 10 minutes. I'm planning to max Edwin (and cookie and sneed) and level all my mercs to 30 doing this.
Well, i also looked up how to beat Rend, but as i dont have Diablo yet i managed to do it using Samuro, Xyrella, Velen and Anduin, also had Tirion & Cariel but they didnt see combat. Used mirror to tank the killing blow 3 times in a row while Sam also had the windfury boon and with Xyr i grabbed the boon that makes blinding luminance hit the neighbours too. Hope it helps someone :)
Hi. I want to share and yes i f-ing killed it Rend Blackhand! xD took me many tries. I am actually low budget, didn't bought packs, just farmed few merc by myself. So here is how I did: i re-opened stages until i saw 2 Protector Boons (1st.gave me +50hp and 2nd. gave me taunt and I was looking for a taunt). I made sure that there is a clear path, no legendaries or anything else that could kill my mercs, basscily i killed easiests one and collected bonuss for my mercs, here is what i got:
1) Roame= lvl30 (TomeofLight)= bonuss-deal 3 dmg when your merc is damaged. 2) Lich=lvl30 (helm of dominatio) bonuss- deal 3 dmg when your merc is damaged. 3) Tyrande-lvl30(elune charm)= bonuss- 3 less damage 4) millhouse=lvl30 (LeyLinewand). bonuss- +3arcDmg, repeat arc missile. 5) BlinkFox= deal 3 damage per each arcane u cast this game. 6) xyrealla- I only took this for bonuss- Hysteria(target merc, it attacks untill it dies, and this is main skill why I won game! idea is simple, since Rend minions who are near to him cant die, he kills himself, now the only problem is left- he kills your mercs and after he dies he summons his whole side with new creeps. I need kill them somehow
So first turn I summoned Roame, Tyrande, Xyrella. now i need 2 turns to make sure my Xyrella survives, cuz Hysteria takes 2 turns cooldown. After first round my Roame almost died, in second round it died instantyl. Now I summoned Lich. Xyrella still full hp and i can finally use Hysteria effect. in middle of round my xyrellia almost died xD left with 10 hp and i thought 'oh no it's over', but then she casted Hysteria and yess it worked, Rend died, all my mercs died too. Now what was left was millhouse and fox. so since I got arcane missile repeat and fox arcane missile, i killed whole field in one turn. Now Im happy xD. f-in stage xD hope you will succeed too :)
I tested some non-Diablo budget options to beat Rend yesterday and ended up with Cariel/Xyrella/Samuro start and Rokara/Millhouse/Tavish bench for a full budget Rares only lineup. This is for normal, not heroic, because the heroic adds have too much health.
Samuro can be immune to the instagib, just make sure he has the highest attack. Rokara comes off the bench to replace Cariel, giving Samuro more buffs. Millhouse comes off the bench if Xyrella dies while the boss is alive. Tavish comes after the boss is dead, Explosive Trap kills all the adds.
The most hilarious thing about needing Diablo strat (for HC) is that it's a bug. There's been zero working strats on HC (that I've seen) that don't abuse a bug. Utterly ridiculous.

I've done it on N, similar strat - I was using Mutanus rather than Cariel, though might have issues there with the slow? Mutanus tanking might be overkill and better with Cariel for the heal on Sam?
Moving to HC, the real Q is how you kill the adds afterwards. Tavish is 32. Diablo could be decent - if there's 5 then he'd be doing 72 to each and almost killing? Maybe bring him and Cairne in from the bench to finish up, along with Tavish? I really DON'T want to use Diablo on the boss considering the heavily bugged state there. So we'd be talking Sam/Xy/Mut/Diablo/Cairne/Tavish team? Not convinced that Samuro can survive without the immune when attacking treasure (or the cleaving scythe to speed it up), and Xyrella probably dies fast too - but it's only an extra 100HP on HC. Does this sound like a reasonable plan?
Green high damage AEs are pretty rare, unfortunately. Saurfang caps out at 14 with equip.
learn to play and be creative and not a dead brain, use samuro to get him buffed as he will always be targeted as highest attack and use bladestorm to be immune.
Anduin and Lichking, anduin salvation stops the dragons from dealing damage and lichking just slows them down.

Anduin prevents 10 dam every two turns. The adds deal, what, 10 normal and 40 fire combo when HC, from memory, when they're not using the 40 to one target and damage to the sides? That's nowhere near stopped by Anduin, even when salvation is active, which is a thrid of the time. What are you using to kill the adds after the boss dies, bearing in mind they're 75 HP and Samuro is generally dieing either just before or just after Rend? How is LK slowing the adds down given that they don't melee?
The 200 dam from Rend is the least of the issues. It's the horde of dragons at the end that always get me - I can just about kill Rend.
ETA - looks like it's 18 fire combo. Certainly seen a 40 with cleave, but not sure where from offhand? Either way, point stands with Anduin given that he's active one in every three turns. Ah, there- 40 main target, 20 on neighbours.

Tried this once, sadly no real luck with the treasures (none on sam, no buffs), Xzel died turn 3 and Cariel, then it was basically all over. Defiantly has potential but really a roll of lady luck and not really skill :( Thank you for the guide!
Also, no treasures and Rend certainly doesn't die to a fire stomp even with all alive and only a cairne stomp beforehand. Managed on HC with a non-buggy fire stomp second team - Rend survived the stomp with 100 left, but died to a second one, which cleared most adds. Tavish stood alone at the end!
Xy/Sam/Cariel/Tavish/Diablo/Cairne limped through without bugs. That bug has to be related to the 9 dam on something's death treasure.
it looks like they quietly hotfixed the treasure anyway (just tried it), so...
Yeah, literally just tried it with the treasure - figured that as I've done it twice without the glitch, wasn't a problem to abuse that!
Wait, just managed it later on without Cairne. 4 mobs, speed 6 stomp, but slowed enemies from the other stomp, still took Rend to -1.1K. Something is weird about this glitch. Rend was dead even without the glitch, though. Didn't quite limp through to victory afterwards, because it didn't kill the 75HP dragon. I've had similar situations without the treasure that didn't bug. Had Tavish, Xy, and Diablo out.

Its dumb you need Diablo to do this. F2P players cant beat this unless you grind diablo coins. This game is officially P2W already ugh.
Oh no... if we don't have Diablo or Cairne we are doomed?? I don not have neither of it... TT
Free to Play.. Play for Fun.. Fun to Play..
