Cookie generally just has the grindiest tasks. Some can be done in one game with the right setup but damn they make one think about life's priorities XD
luckily google now knows more than it knew in the past.
fastest way to get 180 beast kills: lady anacondra eudora (cannons need to deal at least 13 damage) sneed
find alpha hyena in barrens. heal hyena with anacondra. it needs to summon hyenas and stay alive attack hyena with sneed's 3rd ability to get it to 0 attack last, once clear, summon eudora's cannon.
at the end of every turn a hyena is summoned, which is immediately killed by the cannon
This is the best way, but if you don't have any of the required Mercs (I didn't have Sneeds) the 2nd best alternative is to go to Felwood with a comp of Cookie + Blink Fox (3rd one doesn't matter, something that can 1-shot a fish), find the demon that summons a copy of itself if it attacks and survives. Fox steals this ability and copies itself so you end up with Cookie + 2 Foxes. Cookie summons a fish, and the 2 foxes alternate in refreshing your minions' abilities. This way you can summon 1 fish per turn rather than 1 every 2 turns

Vanessa's Task 2 easily has to be the dumbest for a Task 2 I've seen.
Deal 120 damage with Makeshift Weaponry.
jeez, that sounds like a lot for task 2.
however, while doing Valeera's task 3, "deal 55 damage with fan of knives" I've discovered a beneficial bug. at first, I was horrified that I needed to deal 55 damage 1 by 1, since her ability dealt 1 damage to all enemies and that was pretty low. BUT luckily enough, I was playing Valeera with Eudora, and the game counted Eudora's cannon's damage additionally towards Valeera's task, so I completed that super easily. (I used fan of knives to deal 1 damage aoe, then cannons dealt 18 at the end of turn, and game counted 1+18 to the task)
to conclude, maybe the same bug will work with Vanessa as well and help greatly to the progress.
If an ability triggers something else that causes additional damage (like an ability killing one of Cookie's swordfish, which in turn blows up and damages others), -sometimes- (and I have to emphasize sometimes because there seems to be some inconsistency with it that I haven't figured out) it'll count that damage (or kills if applicable) towards completing a task for that ability.
..and yeah, Vanessa's T2 is a pain in the ass because Makeshift Weaponry deals damage by "spending" whatever attack you've stolen with Burgle Barrage. Now, her level 30 gear lets you keep 1-4 ATK (depending on how much you've upgraded it), but I couldn't imagine trying to complete this task without that (or abusing Cookie for that matter).
the funny thing? -I- replied to that very post explaining how/why it happens, and forgot about it before posting again.
I blame holiday stress.
yea it happens (:
lemme add another thing then :D gruul's 14th task I think, was "kill 40 dragons with dragonslayer shot" which sounds like a hard grind too. however, the game counted every single dragon kill by any means, I dunno why :D I had gruul in my team that's all I can say. even them attacking and killing themselves counted. so thats that, no need to worry when you get to that task.
Varden's 12th is pretty bad (kill two simultaneously with Flurry 15 times).
Can't be Cookie'd since Flurry won't hit fish. It's also not giving the +1 for a triple kill that tasks like this normally do.
what a coincidence, I just did that task. after realizing the cookie wont work, I just did the first heroic bounty in the barrens. The minions usually just die to the Varden's flurry ability instantly.
also Grommash's 13th task I think, was pretty hard too. "deathblow 75 times" from the wording and the required number, I thought any deathblow would count, but NOOO, it only counts Grom's deathblow, which sucks. Also, its kinda buggy, it only starts to count after the 1st deathblow, so if you do 1 deathblow per game it wont count anything at all, you have to do multiple... Well I just used cookie in that matter, and since 75 is a pretty high number, I killed 26 fishes for 3 different matches to avoid hitting the turn limit. damn that was such a work.
edit: ok, it's not -that- bad.. did it in one encounter with Cookie abuse, but still..
There is a very very easy way to do this. Play vs Nefarian, reach the final boss and use that Valeera that you get in that battle where Fan of Knives does 63 total damage in 1 turn
War Master Voone, task 17: "deal 980 damage to adjacent enemies using axe throw"
jeez that was too much... the ability deals 8 to an enemy and 8 to a random adjacent one. if you do dont do crit damage with it, this means more than 122 throws! thats 122 turns ffs wtf. required some crazy grinding.
I swear man some of these tasks are either they mistakenly put zero at the end of the number, like cookie's 180 beast task, or they are been put into the game by some braindead devs.

I can't help but think that there was a design change/disconnect somewhere along the way. Some of these tasks seem like they were designed to be completed passively across several play sessions. This flies in the face of the "campfire" design that encourages tasks be ground out in a single playthrough.
What I mean by that, some of the more onerous tasks, be it with a ridiculous amount like the Voone one, or through "moonshot" circumstances like killing enemies with Sylvanas' deathrattle tells me that maybe the original design for tasks were maybe that every merc got them automatically and could be done passively as you played normally. This would suggest that somewhere along the way, instead we got the campfire and Mysterious Strangers, where you didn't get tasks automatically, and only had limited slots for them, but some of those tasks designed for the "old" system fell through the cracks.

yea that makes sense. Like the regular achievements in the game.
But their laziness managed to surface to show this. still cant get tasks for vol'jin btw (stuck at 15). they just dont care about anything other than things that 'might' cost them money.
ok, Antonidas' 12th is absolute torture. "Kill three enemies in one turn with Fireball Swarm 15 times"
Even with Cookie and a Ragnaros with a maxed out third treasure (+3 fire damage), you still have to pray with Cookie that a swordfish doesn't spawn/get hit.
edit: I'm on 13/15, having only gotten credit for ONE in the past hour because I keep losing Swordfish Roulette. The issue is that the game is resolving deathrattles before it resolves combos, so if any of Antonidas' random fireballs hits a swordfish, it clears the board and doesn't let the combo continue. This may not be the most time consuming task, but it is by far the most frustrating one I've run into yet. The devs who play Mercs should probably have played their own game at some point.

yea I also mentioned that one before :D also I think swordfishes are a problem to you (I guess) because you upgraded cookie's that ability? I heard that one before so I havent upgraded cookies 3rd ability at all. after I'm done with all tasks I think I can finally upgrade that one :D
What is the worst, most mind-numbing task requirement you've come across?
I hereby nominate Sylvannas' 9th: Destroy 30 enemies using For the Queen
Wait till you reach (I believe it was...) task 13 for Sylvanas. Destroy 15 enemies using her deathrattle (equipment). the For the Queen task wasn't as annoying as this one. How I did it? I luckily already got that equipment upgraded to rank 2, but it still only killed 2 random enemies. So I used Sylvanas+Cariel+Mrgl on lvl 28 Felwood. (Where they keep summoning extra adds) I kept buffing sylvanas' attack with cariel, and mrgl+sylvanas kept shooting sylvanas. Mrgl was there cus the npc's tend to hit a blue (low hp) target all the time and he doesn't hit back for much. You gotta find tricks to complete most later tasks cus normal team runs won't always go fast enough.
Altough Jaina's task 'Destroy X enemies with Water Elemental' sucked too.
jeez, that really sounds like the worst.
but here's mine:
Antonidas task 12: destroy 3 enemies at once with Fireball storm, 15 times
ability randomly fires fireballs at enemies for each fire ability you cast that turn.
omg that was so frustrating... you need 3 other consistent fire ability mercs, and therefore you cannot put healers to protect your antonidas, also the ability is at cooldown, so you either have to carefully choose what to do on turn 1 or just skip it and hope antonidas survives until next turn's speed 7
Yeah.. rank 5 fish have 15 hp... but swordfish pop for 15 dmg.
I went with Cookie/Ant/Rag (as opposed to a third fire merc) because even with swordfish, this seemed like a more consistent way of completing the task, using Rag's +fire treasure (which at r4 (+3 dmg) bumped up Ant's r5 fireball to exactly 15 dmg) and Ant's treasure that gives Fireball Storm 1 extra target in exchange for +1 cd. So what would happen on the fire combo is that fireball would hit 2 targets, deathrattles would resolve (assuming neither of those targets were swordfish), then hit 2 more targets.
The problem is I had a REAL bad unlucky streak where even if there was one swordfish and 6 other fish (what I would do is if the first three fish were NOT swordfish, I'd take the 1 credit and move onto the next fight, but if a swordfish spawned in any of the first three, I'd fill the board to try to increase my odds) Ant would never fail to hit the swordfish with one of the first two fireballs. It was really uncanny.

Valeera's Task 3.. 55 damage with Fan of Knives.
It doesn't do more than 1 damage until rank 3.
Who is designing these?
