Felwood isn't a problem for me - are your mercs L30 with relevant abilities at 4 or 5 and a few levels invested into the weaps (depends on hero, ofc - Samuro, for example, gains a lot from a maxed weap due to the HP buff - or even switching to the doubled images if you get the bomb treasure)?
Winterspring is seriously harder than BRM. That trash is not feeling doable, even with the stat bump for maxed out mercs. BRM is doable/farmable when I'm not making stupid plays. No clue how I'm going to farm mercs from winterspring considering the dearth of leg coins in normal.
What team are you using? Which groups of mobs are killing you? Or is it the bosses? In felwood I'd avoid Xaravan to start, since those can be annoying.
My default team: Xyr/Cariel/Sam/Guff/Bru'kan/<open>. Xyr/car/sam handles most trash, and Xyr/Guff/Bru hits like a truck on bosses, taking most down quickly enough.
You can build att/HP by levelling up; after L30, there's a minor stat gain for maxing, but that's it.
Upgraded abilities are far more important than base stats. You need to focus on earning coins and getting key abilities to rank 3.
Have you managed winterspring HC, and if so, what teams with? I'm endlessly struggling with the trash when I try since they hit so hard and generally multiple times per turn.
As for OP - what teams are you trying? You say your team gets low towards the end - what generally kills any of your mercs? Also, other than Xaravan, I didn't find the bosses in felwood too bad.

I have not completed it, no. It's HARD. I suspect we may need to 100% some Mercs for the additional stat boost in order to make it through. (Can't hurt!)
I'm still playing around with different builds, planning to tackle the harder heroics once I have most of my roster more fully upgraded.

It's very hard! I'm pretty set on my team, which I don't think helps. Working on building up a beasts build whilst I do some extra data collection and farm BRM HCs/Ns (someone's querying my data!), which might tank a bit better - Mukla tanking and throwing bananas around, or just having all relatively decent toughness and hoping for decent rolls on the attacks. Feels really solid with the Guff/Bru'kan duo for nuking bosses, though, which leaves one flex spot if I Xyr/Sam/Cariel for trash.
Not managed to max Xyrella yet, but close - when I get that I might try WS trash again. Got the last three to finish in BRM, too, but that trash doesn't scale anywhere near as hard and doesn't scare me as much.
I've finally managed to clear all runs on heroic and sometimes it is a case of just being lucky with treasures. For example, Ahune the Frost Lord on heroic becomes trivial once you get the Hunting Party that insta-kills summoned minions. (That one also helps with Snowclaw heroic which I think is the hardest in Winterspring).
The setup that I've used that can reliably clear heroics is Malf/Bru'kan/Guff. I've been using Cairne/Anacondra (Improved Mend Pet) and a placeholder on the bench. Malfurion's Task 7 equipment makes things a lot easier to farm (was glad I got it before the nerf).

I don't think the nerf had much of an impact for me, honestly - it's probably 50% or so chance for Stranger these days from grinding normals for coin data (because something's strange with the rates between Coren and Emp normals, or I'm being trolled with sketchy data.).
Tempted to throw in a Mukla just for the chance of the heart as well - something like anacondra/Mukla/<something> as my secondary/hunting party team. Hunting party feels absurd, if I'm honest.

Not winning any of the bounties from Felwood Heroic or Winterspring Normal.
How can I build the attack and the stamina of the mercenaries that I do have?!

It's the bosses that are getting or my team gets low towards the last two opponents.
