We are currently in the process of rolling out a hotfix that makes the following adjustments to Mercenaries:
• We are adjusting the appearance rate of Mysterious Stangers to be based on the relative level of the strongest Mercenary in your party compared to the suggested level of the Bounty. This move is to encourage people towards more engaging gameplay instead of repeatedly taking on low-level Heroic Bounties with highly over-leveled Parties.
I knew it! He was too good for grinding. He was the most important reason for me to spend many hours in this gamemode; getting tasks and completing them, making a special party for it, the feeling of progression, all were thanks to his high appearance rate. All I did was farming quests for the mercs I like. The progression felt so good.
But now, they are taking it away, I would surely not play this mode that much without his frequent visits...

Lol, I had already checked out once I got a merc to 30 and saw how bad the grind for any progression past that would be. Now double-fuck no. I'm not a huge fan of grinder games regardless and Blizzard seems to have gone out of their way to make this grind especially painful.
Patch? its a hotfix, and they already made it like an hour ago. silent fix, so the players can repeat the air elemental bounty multiple times without even knowing the thing is live
You say you haven't played Mercs, and it shows because you have no idea what you are talking about. This change has nothing to do with greed. You cannot find tasks faster by spending money, so there is literally no way Blizzard can make a single dime off of this change.
Well with this change Blizz would need to give more control over reset task. Something similar to Duels, where you get 3 bundles of task with random Mercs in each and you choose which bundle you want for the day. This would help ppl to focus tasks for the Mercs they want.
Its out for sure and its terrible. I tried lvl 8 for over and hour and got no quest offers.
I then tried rank 25 for 5 runs. No offers.
Rank 28 for 4 runs No offers.
2 hours of farming for gear with a comp thats slow at farming but has the characters I want gear for and not a single quest.
Typical Blizzard. Makes a change that over corrects and makes the game worthless. Is it really intentional in this mode to play a game for 2 hours making zero progress? The point of a shi#$y grind is that you grind for progress. This mode wasn't ready for release. I'm out.

Unpopular opinion: The change, as written, is fine, and if people want to claim there's other nerfs to the rate, please provide a passable amount of data - there's been high variance in stranger appearance rate since the start.
Same appearance rate for stranger in the easiest bounties and the hardest was a pretty silly idea, and led to farming low bounties as opposed to the behaviour that would be natural - i.e. targetted farming of the bounties that give the coins you want. Doing level-appropriate content for better rewards has always been Blizz' design philosophy in stuff like WoW (possible exceptions of during classic, but resistance gear then was wonky). Drops are outscaled, XP reduced etc. for older content.
You can still grind towards coins for the mercs you want with a decent rate. Coins appear roughly flat within the team bucket, and I'm leaning towards ~30% for the legendary coins from the bounty reward buckets (per bucket). Looks to still be a decent rate of Strangers for Banehollow, for example, though I was almost done with him before the hotfix so no real significant sample size.
Since there's reasons to grind HC Felwood, Stranger in some/most of those might be overnerfed. Grinding Barrens probably is not intended behaviour when you can handle elsewhere.

I don't see what's wrong it makes perfect sense, more difficulty -> more reward. You don't want more difficulty, you don't get more rewards. That's a basic rule in all video games.
People really farm level 10 bounties for mysterious stranger ? lol that's ridiculous. It's not Mercenaries at this point it's just a clicking game, I suggest you take a look at Cookie Clicker, that's more fun.

Maybe, just maybe... Hear me out here.... Maybe try level 30. Yes you shouldn't make any progress by farming low level stuff. You are supposed to grind bounties that are the same level as your party. See you later, you'll be back.
Look how much time it takes in World of Warcraft to reach max level just by killing low level mobs.
That 's why I was trying to get the quests with no results for 1 hour straight.
The people saying this is not a greedy move by blizzard are just whales. This is destroying f2p right now, it's really fucking hard to level up characters now and yeah, pvp is now just a dream, thank you everyone!

Yesterday it was too easy and there was not enough content... Today it's "really fucking hard to level up".
On one hand it was pretty stupid and mind numbing to repeatedly do this super low lvl zero challenge bounty because it was so efficient for getting tasks.
On the other hand...tasks are way too time consuming to find if that method is unavailable. Will have to see how it feels in the next few days but maybe Blizz should compensate this hotfix with higher chance for strangers in higher bounties.

LOL im so glad I didnt even bother with this shit mode and its predatory monetization.
I haven't touched it yet and probably never will. If I want to play a game other than Hearthstone, there are countless options out there.
