Voljin, Velen and Cariel at start. Then Garrosh samuro and xyrella .Huge aoe dmg and heal, while Cariel or Garrosh tank. If it needed, you have also the xyrella samuro combo.
I went from 0 to 5k with 0 losses. From there on onward my winrate dropped to less than 20%. If I were that bad then 1) I should not have been able to get there with 0 losses 2) I should be matched to less good opponents by now if there was this so called matchmaking system in place. It clearly isn't.
Not that it matters much. PVP is only for rewards, and many rewards go to heroes that are already maxed out. Meaning useless coins, useless time, bad design.

How do you counter Xyrella + Samuro + shield? What merc do you use on the first round?

Malfurion + Bro´kan+ Guff.
Malf is maxed out with the staff (+6 heal every nature cast).
They usually attack Brukhan all at once, but since I heal for 18 through nature spells, he survives.
Thanks to Malfs A1, all nature spells are reduced by 3 speed, so all of my guys act first next round.
Malf finishes Samuro and the other two prepare to kill the protector next round. Guffs damage is through the roof. In round 2 he currently hits a Protector for 64 damage (10 base + 3 from the Totem (not maxed, yet) and +3 from Brukans spell damage (all of that x2).)
If I face a maxed out Samuro (when you upgrade all skills and artifacts, mercs get a stat boost), Brokan doesnt survive, but Anacondra is on the bench as a backup plan. I am not sure about her, should probably level up the feary dragon as well.
From what I've understood of the Matchmaking dev post you can game the system in some ways. Only upgrade abilities you will use, upgrading ones you don't will give you tougher opponents for no gain. Same with items, either run a highly useful one or none at all when PvPing. If you have a wonky level distribution you are highly likely to get AI opponents, some here mentioned running 1-2 low level heroes for that, so that seems to bear out. Do not make le silly builds like a 6 protector team, the game will likely punish you for that or at least give no gain, they want you to use the rock-paper-scissors system that exists.
However the party stops at 7K rating when AI opponents are disabled and you will start running into polished compositions even if you intentionally don't run such, same is likely even sooner if all your heroes are 30 since level is the primary matchmaking criterion sub-7k. Good luck and let us know how it goes, I am curious too, don't want to rank up just yet want to enjoy the noob zone a bit longer so would love to know if my system works.

Protectors: Cariel, Cornelius Fighters: Samuro, Tyrande (sometimes replacing Tyrande) Casters: Millhouse, Xyrella All 6 are completely maxed out, except for Tyrande (who still is level 30 and has her used skills at 4+).

Seeing this is not the case tells me there is no MMR-based match making system in place at all. That combined with the fact that rewards still give useless coins for maxed out heros makes PVP, and therefore the entire game mode, worthless to me. Sadly I have to say, for I liked the grind.

I bet you just played a ton of AI opponents until 5k, just like me. Its because your team was still in development and now maxed out you are more likely meet real opponents with maybe better composotions. There is already that Xyrella + Samuro meta going on, so ppl put in Cariel. But thats perfectly countered by Nature combos, so many players swapped out Cariel for Garrosh I believe (the windfury protector)

The first two times I went in the amazing mmr send me against people with every legedary merc fully upgraded....
I never went back inside the arena o whaterver again.

you can get to 6500 with 2 brain cells tbh, ppl dont protect their blues and just get rolled, once you hit 6500 ull start to get some competent ppl
