Is it only me or is it really stupid that we can't see the abilities of the mercenaries we still want to craft??? How can we decide which one we want if we don't know what they do? PLS fix that flawed game design...
It is ridiculous, IMO, that you can't see the abilities without crafting, since you can grind towards specific cards, and have to judge if you want to craft now or wait.
You are not wrong about not being able to see the abilities but why whould you care about deciding to craft a merc or not? It's not like you can use the coins in any other way
You can see their ability if you find a battle against them, or literally here on hearthpwn, it's not a big deal. Why would you not craft a merc if you have the coins anyway ? Even if you're not interested in it, you need it for the achievements and you can't do anything else with the coins.
There are more important things to fix like removing maxed out merc coins from packs and rewards.

There is a good reason not to craft a merc. You can hope to open it later in packs and save the 300/500 coins that you would spend on crafting, which you can now use to upgrade its powers

Yes you can, but it's not worth it imo. You need a lot more than 300/500 coins to fully upgrade a mercenary, and they are easy to farm anyway, and most importantly they are more efficiently farmed when you actually have the mercenary in your team.
I crafted King Krush less than 2 days ago because I wanted to test if it is worth the coin sacrifice, and I really wanted the insane Krush/Mukla/Anacondra team, he is now rank 3-4 on active abilities and rank 2 on passive items. With 300 more coins he would basically have rank 4 on 2 abilities instead of rank 3, again not a big deal, especially King Krush that doesn't benefit much from higher ranks on the A1 and A2. And I did not specifically farm King Krush coins at all, I was leveling up all my mercs in different bounties, but King Krush was on the team so I got random Krush coins all the time.
Another reason to craft your mercs is that when they are fully upgraded, their corresponding coins can still be obtained in packs and rewards, so you might as well increase the total amount of coins that are going to be useful before clogging up the reward system.
it feels super bad to craft a legendary merc tbh. or any for that matter, all those coins are gonna be needed in triple or more to get the abilities at a decent rate.
so spending 500 coins or 300 for an epic only to get the portrait (meaning that if u didnt have that merc you would pack it instead) in the next pack seems like stuff of nightmares

It's more regarding if it's worth grinding emperor for Diablo at a rate of, what, ~15 coins x5 chance / 10ish options? So about an average of 7 Diablo coins per if all options have equal chance. Do you invest the 80ish runs into that, or grind for another? No clue if it's worth it from only in-game info because the game doesn't tell you! That is an utter failure of UX design.
Maxed out mercs still giving coins is a different, also bad facet of the system.

Yes totally. Need to check on a third party website. Will probably be fixed at some point.
