Does anybody know what this provides for 200 gold? Does it give you more quests to complete per day, or just more quest "storage" allowing you more days until you have to come back to the mode and clear your quest log? I'm not really sold on the mode, and would rather not spend any gold on it at this time, but if it's giving you more quests per day, then I guess I have to spend the gold?
It gives you one extra spot on the Campfire Task Board. It's useful as you can see in mine. I did a Bounty where I had a Mystery Choice that potentially sent a Merc to my campfire, but I was already full (just after reset) so it gave me some consolation coins instead.
So that's what you are basically missing out on, extra space to get more tasks for more loot and coins, but you still get some rewards even if you don;t have it and have options to add to yoru Task board.

So, as of now... it costs gold to upgrade stuff in Mercs, but is there any way to earn gold here? Or are all the rewards going to be coins and packs for Mercenaries alone?
I know you get reward track exp for playing, but is that all?
So, I'm still not entirely sure from the response here if my original question was answered. For example, I've cleared all of my tasks and dailies. I now see two slots that say "Tomorrow another Merc will arrive" (or something to that effect). If I upgrade the campfire, will I now get three slots saying "Tomorrow another Merc will arrive"? Because if so, it might be worth upgrading. If not, it just means I need to stay on top of keeping my tasks and dailies clear.

As far as we know it is planned for merc players to get also gold in other ways. But right now you need 900 gold for a upgrade and packs are not really worth the gold because you can farm everything and once you got all rares its just skins. I would just wait. I am sure the first update patch (when the mini set comes out and BG gets an update) will be quite big for us.

Ideally daily quests & weekly quests will be completable in Mercenaries at some point.

Ah, then yes, you probably do, cause I have 3 Visitors coming tomorrow. Probably worth the upgrade if you plan to play this game mode.

Mercenaries is any 90s RPG (Dragon Warrior! Final Fantasy) without the world exploring and storyline and with in-game purchases. It's fun and addictive sometimes to grind up in RPGs, but ultimately the strategy never changes; it just scales up for more hit points and more attack damage.
I'd rank it behind Duels but ahead of BGs in the new modes power rankings.

Also note tasks (tasks 3 & 7 for each merc) are how you earn that merc's treasures. Besides the one you get at level 30.
Thank you! I already was going to ask what "complete task x" means.

I think what they need to do is something like...
Win 5 Ranked Hearthstone Matches
OR
Place first in a game of Battlegrounds
OR
Win 5 bounties in Mercenaries
Something like that. Give you options.
