So, one day passed. The game is addicting and feels rewarding at the moment, but I start feeling the lack of the potential. I cannot see what can I do in one week.
State after one day:
6 mercs level 30
Two capitals of PvE ready
PvP lobby practically empty (waiting time over 1 minute)
Absolutely love it and even PvP with just rares (starter quead for the win!) is also good. Dont know how long I play PvP (because I think my last 7 games where vs bots). But the PvE mode is also very cool. I dont know how much XP it gives you when you lose but PvP seems a great way to level heroes fast. At least in lower realms.

"... but not less than (1)" is needed now more than ever!
Not sure, it has potential but as it stands at the moment there aren't really enough Mercs and the current synergies don't feel very well balanced. There are synergies that feel somewhat incomplete (Murlocs I'm looking at you) Whereas some synergies are just straight up nuts. It would be good if there were a few more options for how you build X synergy teams rather than just picking the only Mercs that synergise with each other. I also feel very strongly that if you're opening packs you should not see a single portrait until you've collected every Merc of that rarity. Because of this I don't really feel like packs are worth it unless you absolutely *must* have everything right now. Spending money or even your gold on only cosmetics and random "coins" will always feel bad if you don't give a crap about such things.
I usually LOVE PvE content. I have spent hours playing Dungeon Run, Rumble Run, Dalaran Heist and Tombs of Terror. I really liked playing though the Books of... as well. But this? It's not for me. Probably because it's not a card game.
I do think the randomization (via treasures) is so toned down relative to the previous solo modes that it just doesn't offer the same level of excitement. Dungeon runs & monster hunt rewards gave you crazy unique effects that were rarely present in standard hearthstone. The treasures that I've come across so far here tend to be more passive-feeling and ordinary.
So I suppose the chess enthusiasts got something a little closer to what they wanted: less RNG, more consistency across battles & play-throughs But I'm guessing Blizzard is going to find that those people make up a pretty small subset of the Hearthstone player base. Most of us are just big dumb animals who love big numbers and wild balance swings.
Funny.. you just describe what I hate MOST about Hearthstone.
Answer regarding a ticket made to Blizzard telling them that I received only coins in 52 packs out of 136 packs opened.
"I understand you have some concerns over the Hearthstone Mercenary cards, getting coins in a lot of packs.
Coins will be rewarded, if you already own the random Rare Mercenary card. Then it will try to give you a rare portrait, and if you already own that portrait, then you'll be rewarded with coins instead.
Overall coins are rewarded if you already have the card and portrait. You may use the coins to either 1. Upgrade your mercenaries you already have, or 2. If you don't have the Mercenary but 500 coins, you can craft them and their base skin.
Mercenary cards and portraits are random, so there will be times where you'll be rewarded with coins (dupes).
If you have any other questions, or need assistance with another matter, please don't hesitate to contact us again."
Wow, so basically that whole thing with every pack contains at least a mercenary is just horseshit.
And yeah, I am still missing mercs.
I was actually really eager to play it but as it is, I think I will reconsider.
I absolutely love it, it’ll probably be my main mode as long as it keeps getting new content. I know devs mentioned they plan to add new stuff every patch, like BGs, so that’s promising.
Grinded through a bunch of pve and really enjoyed the minute to minute gameplay. Board not super visually interesting but strategically there’s a lot going on. Pvp I haven’t gone too much into except for the daily chest, but I doubt that will be my focus.
As far as P2W fears, it’s incredibly generous. Just 900 gold for a fully upgraded village, so cheaper than BGs even. With one preorder bundle and the packs you get for free, I have 44/51 mercs. I imagine it will be pretty easy for everyone to get a full merc collection fast, after that you are just grinding for the upgrades. Seems to be a matter of finding a mission that gives the coins you want and then just going in on it.
Plenty of content here if people really like progression, leveling up and putting together different comps. Made a dragon/fire comp that was okay, and a pure demon comp that is very strong.
Look, to each their own so while I disagree with the gameplay and visuals, you’re just flat out wrong on saying it is cheaper than battlegrounds. This mode is designed to be a money sink with obtuse resources compared to dust. Battlegrounds is literally free, and the optional battlepass might be more expensive than leveling up your camp, but it will be much cheaper than opening endless packs for random coins that might be for the mercenary you want. If you enjoy it, good. If you think you got your money worth for the preorders, good. But you’re wrong thinking this will not be an expensive mode.
Sorry I meant building the village up was cheaper than the BGs, I feel that’s the equivalent of “bgs perks”. The mode definitely could cost more long term if you buy a lot of packs, though it really doesn’t seem necessary so far. Coins seem fairly grindable, especially since we can target the ones we want. The only real reason to keep buying packs seem to be if you really want portraits.
I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. After watching Trump's intro for it I was underwhelmed but the combo math and hero design were fun for a few hours. But I can already feel the monetization built into the system. If it were a $20 game with 5x the progression and maybe a bit more variety I'd far more interested in it.
When I watched the early reveals and streams, it looked kinda boring.
However, I am pleasantly surprised to find I quite enjoy it. I got through the first two zones yesterday, and am looking forward to trying the next tonight.

Alright Activision Bot, with your one post here.
So glad you’re enjoying it! The rest of us are just bored, confused and pissed off.
This is what standard was all about this year? Getting us ‘prepped’ for this?
It’s like a tavern brawl that I’d pass on for a free pack. The team that came up with this need sacking,
I have more exciting games on my steam account that I’ve yet to play.
🥱
Absolutely agree with you. Right now, the meta is bad but that's ok, I just do the dailies. Besides that, I am having a blast on steam with some amazing games like Valheim.
KInda fun so far. Having only put a few hrs in my opinion isn't set - but so far it feels like hearthstone Darkest Dungeon which is no bad thing - but it doesn't have that game's amazing atmosphere or art.

Maybe some mechanics are similar to Darkest Dungeon, but that is a truly whack comparison. Darkest Dungeon provides great value, this is a gacha p2w shitfest. Darkest Dungeon had great character design, art , ambience, this has gameplay from a final fantasy game from the 1990's and worse art.
I signed up for Hearthstone to play a card game, so I kinda want the designers to devote all their energy to making that great. BG and this are like totally different games and they feel like they're using the restrictive interface of HS when they could just be their own standalone things. I don't want the modes to be in HS, I don't want quests for these modes, I'd rather they give us a tournament mode and balance Duels properly.
Boring to watch, that was my first impression from watching streamers' previews.
I feared it would become a grind fest. It's more than a grind fest than I had feared. It's so boring and will take thousands of runs to complete all achievements.
I forced myself to finish the 1st part and open the 1st chest. Then I gave up. It's just like Duels: something abysmal made to distract people from the real Hearthstone game (failing in the process)
